March, A Great Month for Competitive Trail Rides
Clean up your saddle and sharpen up your skills. The month of March has the return of two great trail organizations: The North American Trail Ride Conference (NATRC) and The American Competitive Trail Horse Association (ACTHA). Jan Stewart is ride manager for the NATRC “Louisiana Purchase ” com-petitive trail ride (CTR) to be held in the beautiful hills of Kisatchie on March 8-9, 2014. The National Forest district is centrally located in the state and boasts two camp sites areas whose use is dedicated to this CTR during this time frame. CTRs are usually between 15 to 25 miles in length per day and are highly suited to the interest of the trail rider desiring a longer course with obstacles upon which to pit his skills. Riders may choose to enter a one day competition or two day com-petition. NATRC is not a race. It is an event strongly rooted in horsemanship with riders performing ob-stacles at unmarked locations just as nature intended. The horses are judged by a veterinarian and are moni-tored by a pulse and reparations team. The riders are judges by a highly qualified horsemanship judge who has been trained and completed a vigorous NATRC internship program and passed a written exam. Those interested in NATRC can visit the ride entry page on the national website. www.natrc.org NATRC has a great saying, “Come Ride with us!” And they mean it. Cathy Rodriquez proudly presents the First An-nual Triple Oak Ranch ACTHA Trail Ride to be held March 29-30 in Loranger, La. This Competitive Trail Challenge (CTC) will be held at the ranch with over-night primitive camping at the same venue. The trail course will take participants over a marked 6 mile trail with obstacles every mile. Ride one or two days at the ranch with the choice of competition or riding just for fun. There will be a social Saturday evening dinner and bonfire to ensure fun and friendship. Tack Sale, too! Practice obstacles will be set up in the arena. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Loui-siana Horse Rescue Association. Featured horse at the ride will be Goodbye Cammie, a gentle mare with a way with younger horses. To register see the ACTHA web site ride regis-tration page. For more information:NATRC: www.natrc.orgCathy Rodriquez: 504-256-9863ACTHA: www.actha.usTriple Oak Ranch: www.tripleoakranch.com
