Spring is here and our weather has been great. Wild flowers are blooming better than I have

seen in a long time.

Improvements to our club are being made and many more are in the planning stages. Your board

has been very active working with management so that all your requests are heard. Our facility

is well over 30 years and many changes are needed. Discussions with management are held daily about which areas

to get the best results in a timely manner. I meet with Hagen Cleek every week on the future plans at Sonterra.

Our Easter buffet is always special and very well attended..If you are planning to attend be sure to make your

reservations early.

The Pickle ball demo was a huge success and thank you to our Tennis staff for such a great demonstration. It looks

like a lot of fun and I hope to see it in full swing soon.

Our golf course is getting greener and I know everyone is anxiously waiting for better conditions. We have the water

now and number 10 looks beautiful. All we need is some heat and the grass should be ready to grow. Thank you all

for your patience and I look forward to seeing you on the course or the courts.

The members of Sonterra are what make our club special and make it such a great place to be and to enjoy the many

activities.

See you at the club!!

A Message from Board Chairman, John DeLoach

Congratulations to our

scholarship recipients! As

you’re aware, our Membership

graciously donates funds

towards our team of dedicated

employees to further their

education. Each is awarded

based on their tenure, average

number of hours worked, job

performance and supervisor

sponsorship, as well as the

education benefit to the Club at

Sonterra. Many of our staff

work full time and go to school

full time to better themselves

and the club, and we are in-

credibly proud to offer the

partnership with our team who

strive to make every member

experience a memorable one!

Thank you for your continued

support of the Sonterra

Tennis News Page 12

Tennis News- Michelle Dodier, Director of Tennis Tennis Events/News

Hope everyone is ready for April, because it’s one active

month. This month has a little of everything for us. We start

off with the Lone Star Levels Tournament here at Sonterra,

followed by another tournament down at McFarlin, then we

have Easter, then we put our party hats on for Fiesta and the

Taste of the Northside to finally do us in for the month.

Pace yourself folks because we have the Grand Slam Member Guest

Tournament the first weekend in May. The only other month that could give

April competition is May.

This by far is our most favorite month. The Member Guest tournament is

truly a spectacular event and if you can’t play in it come out and watch some

great tennis and take part of all the activities it has to offer. There will be

many silent auction items to bid on and we will be raffling a couple of popu-

lar items. The decorations, the food, the entertainment and the great tennis all

under one roof—right here at Sonterra. Come out and watch and cheer your

friends on May 3-5—it’s a blast.

Ok there’s more, after everyone has recovered physically from the Member

Guest we celebrate Mother’s Day- a relaxing weekend. Now it’s time to get

competitive again and play in The Club Doubles Championship. The first of

the tri-fecta of Club Championship events. Next is our Memorial Day Mixer

followed by SUMMER. I haven’t mentioned all the leagues and city play-

offs and sectionals that are sprinkled in-between all these events we have

going on. I feel the calories burning off me as I’m writing this newsletter.

These next two months are going to be quick because there is so much going

on. We will try to stay one step ahead and give you notifications so you

don’t miss anything. Hope everyone has downloaded the “Sonterra app”.

Remember folks to keep enjoying your friends, your tennis and what

Sonterra has to offer and what tennis has added to our lives.

.

Grand Slam Member Guest Tournament—May 3-5

We are one month away from our premier event of the year-- The Grand Slam

Member Guest Tennis Tournament. The committee has been working nonstop

at refining all the details and collecting fantastic items for the silent auction,

door prizes, raffles, live auction items and so much more. This event is the

crème de la crème of San Antonio events. We have players from all over

calling to let us know they are available if a member needs a guest. It not only

is a fun filled two and a half days of tennis-you also have delicious food and

entertainment to top off your day. This event will leave you a happy but tired

tennis player- it also gives back to our community by helping us reach our

goal of $10,000.00 to donate to the Miss Tristan Foundation. So start working

out for one heck of a weekend. We will be forwarding more information

throughout the month. If you are interested in being one of our sponsors for

this event please contact Christy in the pro shop.

SUMMER JUNIOR CAMP

Brochures are available in the tennis shop for our summer junior camp. If you

would like us to email one to you—no problem just give us a call. The first

session begins June 3rd and will continue through August. Sessions are one

week long (Mon-Fri) and hours are 9am to noon. For more information, or to

register your child, please call the tennis shop at 491-9888.

LADIES AND MENS BEGINNER

CLINIC-MON-WED 9AM TO 10:30AM

Mike will have this clinic on Mondays and

Wednesday from 9am to 10:30am. For those

that can attend both days this will speed up the

learning process and have you playing before

you know it. Let Mike introduce you to the ball

machine where you can practice what you just

learned. Working hand in hand with Mike and

the “machine” will take you to the next level.

Call Mike for more confidence, because this

stage is the most important in developing good

strokes.

ADULT SINGLES AND MIXED DOUBLES

CHALLENGER LADDER

The Challenge ladder runs through November

15th. If you love singles this is for you, if you

need to work on your strokes this will help, if

you need a great work out that will benefit you

in more ways than I can write—this is for you.

Mixed doubles- need I say more- it’s all about

fun in this ladder. The USTA mixed league has

only increased through the years so why not use

this ladder as an additional practice for you and

your partner. You can jump in anytime through-

out the year. Call Scott for more encouragement

–just do it.

WEDNESDAY EVENING BEGINNER

CLINIC –6 to 7pm

Celine is offering a one hour clinic from 6 to

7pm prior to the progressive league. Call Wendy

to let her know if you want to sign up.

AFTER SCHOOL JUNIOR PROGRAM

SESSION 4 April 1-25

children from 4 to 17 years of age with age spe-

cific balls to help the child enjoy the game that

much more. Junior team tennis is right around

the corner so let’s get out there and start hitting

some balls. Call Irene for more fun information.
