Baseline Survey of the Project Area:
For the inception of the project interventions, a Base Line Survey
of the project area conducted and most vulnerable villages which
were highly affected by forest exploitation were selected to
initiate the work as per schedule of the project document. A
format was designed to collect the data for baseline survey.
Meetings with activists and gatherings at grassroots level
conducted to form a structural framework of community
organizations as implementing partners of the project
interventions on CBOs based performance of activities.
The villages identified included the most vulnerable areas which were under pressure of wood cutting
and were intensively inhabited which devastate the forest for their vested interest to meet the domestic
use of firewood and shelter, including mountains and accessible slope areas which have been
devastated from regular forest exploitation. Thus the selected target areas were the best feasible for
launching the project. The list of identified villages is given:
Union Council Nara Amazai:
Shah Mehmood Garhi, Kapla, Garhi, Baila, Charwai, Zaida,
Shangri, Shidar Bala, Digra, Nara, Charrona, Kalilar,
Kofri and Parba.
Union Council Bait Gali:
Shalizara Koza, Parosa, Bait Gali, Ramri, Sitanra, Kaneri, Gali, Choryana, Ziarat, PatBandi, Kanier, Dhoda and Kochretia.
Training of women on installation of metallic stoves
Ten events of training conducted to train 250 communitywomen for installation of new metallic fuel efficient stoves and provided them support of the stove installation. These Master Trainers will further train & disseminate the intervention to other community women to provide technical backstopping and support them in new technology installation. The communities were very much delighted with getting the training in metallic stoves installation.

Fungicides: most of the diseases are caused due to fungi and the seeds treated with Dia Thane / Topsisn with ratio of 20 gms in 10 liter of water to spray. Site selection: Field well drained.
Selected field have not been used for at least 2 years for nursery. Field is free of saline and alkali soils
Field selected free of waterlogged soil Field is easily accessible, preferably situated at the side of main roadway.

2. Promoting Improved Livelihoods for Informal Sector Workers – Funded by AF/TAP/GEP-USAID
PHKN in partnership with AF/TAF/GEP/USAID is working on the project, “Promoting Improved Livelihoods for Informal Sector Workers” in district Haripur, under the Gender Equity Program. The selected area includes two Union Councils Rehana and Kot Najibullah of Tehsil Haripur and one Union Council Ghazi of Tehsil Ghazi. Women Household Based Workers (WHBW) working in these Union Councils have been identified for improvement of their products, including Jasti, Crochet and Cross Stitch. WHBWs constitute more than 50 % of the informal sector and unfortunately this major segment of society has not been able to play its role in the main stream of development process. They produce variety of products but their work is not up-to-date to the market demand and need improvement in consistent with market demand, value addition and market linkages may earn their income more as compared to their traditional work.
In addition they are not empowered to decide presentation of their products in the open market, while the middle man purchase their products at very low costs. The rights of these house based women workers are not safeguard by law and they are paid below minimum rates. Majority of them live below poverty rate and hardly earn through handy craft products to meet their substantive needs.
There is little professional guidance available to these home based workers innovative interventions and improvement in their design and develop market linkages of their relevant products and to improve their over all quality of work to earn high return incomes of their products for their livelihoods. PHKN is women based organization and have strong roots at grassroots level and understands the communities’ traditional norms. The activities with the support of United State Agency International Development (USAID) under the Gender Equity Program are being implemented; the detail of the achievements is as followed:
