From the desk of Jack Moyers, MCA Board President
What does Meadville Council on the Arts mean to you? To me, becoming
a part of MCA many years ago has made my life much richer.
Art is everywhere; art is all around us. Art transcends gender, race, creed,
color, generations, political views, and even your preference in sports teams.
Art can be exciting and relaxing at the same time. Art comes in many forms:
think of the performing arts, the musical arts, the visual arts, and the industrial
arts. No art is any better or any worse than another, for the appreciation of art
lies in the senses of the beholder. Once you let art into your life, many things
take on new meanings.
Our Great Maker has provided us with an earth with which we can sustain life.
We are also provided with great, natural, works of art: the splendor of
a sunrise, the magnificence of a sunset, the rhythm of raindrops, the
orchestration of a thunderstorm, the song of a bird, the call of a whale…
all provided for us each to enjoy, marvel, and appreciate. Recognizing and
respecting the art around you stimulates the senses and the mind and can
create a deeper insight and influence in everything you do.
I have served on the board of Meadville Council on the Arts for nearly ten
years now. I've seen the ebb and flow of its economics, the flourishes and
declines in its memberships, its hard times and good times. But the joy of
witnessing live performances from famous and not so famous performers in the
theater, the experience of seeing art in so many forms, textures, and medias in
the gallery, have brought enrichment to my life. Even more, my greatest riches
come from the people I've had the opportunity to meet and work with, seeing
their commitment and passion for not just art, but for MCA. These things
all together provide a wealth that doesn't vary with the stock market or the
economy, wealth for the mind and soul that one can live and recall as long as
the brain will allow.
MCA takes little to sustain relative to what it offers in return. Through the
dedicated staff, volunteers, and teachers, we provide not only an entertainment
venue, but also offer lessons in a multitude of art disciplines. Young, old,
talented - or not - everyone can benefit by letting MCA into their life. I know
I did, and my eyes were opened to a new world, the ability to look at things
differently, and a fresh way to experience life’s nuances.
Sincerely, Jack Moyers
