Societal challenge (Horizon2020)
Karin ZimmermannStudying the need for food and health research infrastructures in Europe
Europe is facing major challenges in promoting health and reducing the disease burden of age- and diet-related non-communicable diseases by means of lifestyle, food and nutrition.
For adequate response to these societal challenges it is needed to
• Develop effective (public) health nutrition strategies• Ensure sustainable production at EU and global level
(Horizon 2020)
EU-wide Research Infrastructures (RIs) are essentia l to achieve this.

RIs enable adequate response to the scientific
& societal challenges!
ResearchInfrastructures
(centre of knowledge triangle)
Help to shape scientific communities:
Attract young people to science & attract the
best researchers from around the world,
Build bridges between national research communities and
scientific disciplines via users from different
countries
Research Innovation
Unique research services,
facilities, resources and related
