Thumbs Up

Last week we had a miss-print in the Thumbs Up – my apology to Jessica Stacey. Jessica was the very successful coach of our girl’s team at Hoop Time that just missed out on winning the Grand Final for their division on the day. Thank you for all your efforts and my sincere apology.

Also congratulations to Matilda S (Tilly) who has also been selected to play for Victoria Country in the Under 12’s. An outstanding achievement by Tilly, Hayley and Lewis.

To the Parents’ and Friends’ Club for stepping in and ensuring that Meal Deal was provided this week. Very much appreciated.

To Connections for hosting the very well received Parenting Program that is currently being run each Monday in the staffroom for interested parents and friends of the school.

To the students who have been successful to date in gaining a place in the KooWeeRup Secondary College – SEAL Program, an outstanding achievement by these students.

SCHOOL CAMP For students attending camp this year, please return your medical and consent forms to the office as soon as possible. It is important that we have these details on file. Just a reminder that full payment MUST be received at the office by Friday, 3rd November. Payments can be made either by cash, cheque or BPAY. If you would like your BPAY details to arrange regular payments, please see Mrs Smith or Mrs Friend in the office.

CAR PARKING AT CHURCH Parents, please use the designated car parking places at the Church

opposite our School. Too many parents are parking on the grass which, at

this time of year, is creating a lot of mud and mess. We are fortunate

to have the use of the church so please be respectful.

Lost Reader Bag

Mikayla Hatwell-Kruse (1CA) has lost her reader bag. It has been

missing since Thursday July 27th. The bag has the school logo on the front, Mikayla’s name on the back, and some school library books inside.

If found, please return to the Office or the Miss Carneli’s classroom.

Meal Deal News!

Meal Deal has reached crisis stage! We are desperately needing parent helpers on a Thursday to help with our Meal Deals for our children. Can you spare 1 Thursday this term to help us out? Many hands make light work! Our children love our weekly meal deals & it is also an important fundraiser for our school. Please contact Keryn Eades on 0417 341 675 or Cara Massa on 0401 197 666. Alternatively, see Mrs Smith or Mrs Friend in the office.

MILO DAY!

This Friday will be our last Milo Day. Thank you for everyone who has supported this fundraiser for our school. Also, a BIG special thank you to Cara Massa, Keryn Eades, Sarah Moore and Zac Gothard who treated us with our warm Milo’s each week.

Chaplain's Corner

Welcome to the first of series of little articles in the school newsletter. The inspiration for this was a seminar run by the Resilience Project that a few of us attended.

We were introduced to the concept of GEM. With a GEM mindset we, as people, are more resilient and able to cope better with life. GEM stands for Gratitude, Empathy and Mindfulness. We have all been with people who are “glass empty” people. It affects our mood and makes us feel down. Having a “half empty” outlook on life can be a habit that seems natural but, with purposeful practice, we can change our outlook gradually. It would be really helpful for our children to also be learning strategies to help them deal with life. They need the practice to form the helpful habits. At school we are implementing as much of GEM as we can but children learn much more from home about these sorts of things. I encourage all of you to set aside some time regularly to talk about what each of us can be thankful for. Maybe make a GEM jar and write, on separate pieces of paper, the things we are thankful for and put them in the jar. When the jar is full, celebrate all those things that we are thankful for. I hope you all have a week full of thankfulness and seeing the jar half-full! Cherida

LILY NEEDS YOUR HELP! Little Lily Sowerby-Schmdit has an opportunity to use a Therasuit which is used to

strengthen her muscles in her legs. To be include in this trial, Lily needs to raise

$10,000. That’s where you can help. Please have a read of the attached brochure & if

you can help, please donate to help Lily access this vital tool to assist her and her

family. Donation forms are also at the office.

DISTRICT ATHLETICS Listed on permission forms that were distributed to students recently, there

was a charge of $10 listed. This was to cover the bus cost. However, the school

will now absorb this charge, hence there will be no charge to families for this

event.

CARDINIA PRIMARY SCHOOL ARTS

CELEBRATION WILL BE ON THURSDAY, 24TH

AUGUST.

SHOW DAY WILL BE FRIDAY, 25th AUGUST.

This Year our annual Art Show will be also a Celebration of the Arts and include performances from

students across the school in various musical endeavours. On the Thursday evening, as well as coming

along to view all the great art work that students have produced, you will get to see some of the great

work being achieved in our music classes.

MUSIC PERFORMANCE TIMETABLE, THURSDAY 24TH AUGUST:

4pm - 4.15pm Foundation (Making Music for You) and Grade 4 (Hoe Down Throw Down) both dances.

4.30pm - 4.45pm Choir singing 4-5 songs.

5pm- 5.15pm Grade 5/6 recorder group.

Leah and Kelly Colbourne singing 'The Climb'

This year there will be still a gold coin admittance fee to the Art Show and musical performances but the

art work will be given back to all students for free after the show. We will be conducting a raffle with

some great prizes including a gent’s watch valued at over $200, a bike and gifts from the Good Guys.

Tickets will be $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00, so please sell as many of these tickets as possible to support

the school. We will also be selling tea and coffee for a small fee.

The Art show will be on display throughout Show Day on Friday, 25th August and for the Fathers’ Day

breakfast, which is being held on the Friday morning, giving dads and visitors the chance to look at the

great work prior to the show being packed up.

On the morning of Show Day we will be once again having our Fathers’ Day breakfast, with a bacon and

egg roll and a cup of tea or coffee. A slip will be sent home shortly asking if dad (uncle, grandfather,

friend) is coming along to the breakfast so that, for catering purposes, we have some idea of how many

eggs, rolls and bacon we might need.

Following on from the breakfast we will once again be having our famous Cardinia Show Day with

students in buddy groups conducting side-shows they have organised themselves and the ‘Cardinia Got

Talent Quest’ being conducted in the afternoon.

We look forward to as many families as possible joining us in these events on the 24th and 25th of

August.
