ADORATOIN CHAPEL CANDLES Would you like to light a candle in memory of a deceased or for someone, perhaps even yourself?

› $10.00 donation per intention per candle. (3 available per cycle) › PURCHASE from the parish office to reserve a candle in our Eucharistic Adoration Chapel.

Lighting a candle is a way of extending one's prayer and showing solidarity with the person on whose behalf the prayer is offered.

In the lighting of candles we remember and truly live the words of Our Lord: "I am the Light of the World." In the lighting of candles we not only pray, but our prayers become smaller symbols of the One Light of Christ. In burning candles, our prayers rise up to Heaven day and night; prayers for the saint's intercession are also common because of their friendship with God in Heaven. Saints are powerful intercessors. The lighting of candles has been observed since the time of the early martyrs. Source: A Catholic Life

AN INVITATION TO PRAYER: MONASTERY OF MARY, MOTHER OF GRACE

Lafayette, LA Our dear Friends: “A Century of Love”: this is the theme chosen for the year-long celebration of the founding of our Diocese of Lafayette. …There will be many events throughout the diocese to celebrate the Centennial. One of these will be our annual Novena in honor of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel… Our Novena will be a time of prayer, praise and gratitude for the merciful, sustaining love lavished on our diocese by God and our Blessed Mother throughout these 100 years. … We invite you to join us as we honor Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and thank her for her abundant mercies and graces to the Lafayette diocese and to her Order of Carmel.

Your devoted Carmelite Nuns

NOVENA SCHEDULE Sunday, July 8th – Monday, July 16th

NOVENA PRAYER GOD IS LOVE. After Jesus, Mary is the person whose heart is most perfectly filled with this love. Confident in her intercession we pray: MOTHER OF DIVINE LOVE, uphold the Church in our diocese and throughout the world in its mission of bringing God’s merciful and empowering love to all people. MOTHER OF SERVING LOVE, direct those in public office to work against violence, terrorism and hatred and to work for peace, freedom, justice and tolerance in this world torn by strife and dissension. MOTHER OF FAITHFUL LOVE, sustain married couples and families with fidelity, closeness and understanding in their daily struggles to love as you and Jesus love. MOTHER OF CONSECRATED LOVE, inspire priests, deacons, and religious to strive for purity of heart and holiness of life by imitating the beauty of your perfect love. MOTHER OF PATIENT LOVE, be the support of the ill and unhappy, those in financial straits or difficult situations, those burdened with addictions, physical and mental challenges, unemployment or sorrow. MOTHER OF BEAUTIFUL LOVE, bless with gifts of faith, hope, love and prayer all in the Carmelite family who wear your Scapular as the sign of their love and dedication to you. MOTHER OF GRACIOUS LOVE, listen to the requests we place before you (mention your intentions) and intercede for us with Jesus, your Son, Who is Love incarnate. Amen.

FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH - July 6th, the First Friday of the month, the celebration of the Holy Mass will be at 6:30am followed by an hour of Eucharistic Adoration where we can honor Jesus’ Sacred Heart.

FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH – July 7th is the First Saturday of the month in honor of our Blessed Mother. The Mass will be celebrated at 7:00am.

"We should recall that no man is an island, entire of itself. Our lives are involved with one another, through innumerable interactions they are linked together. No one lives alone. No one sins alone. No one is saved alone. The lives of others continually spill over into mine: in what I think, say, and do, and achieve. And conversely, my life spills over into that of others: for better or for worse. So my prayer for another is not something extraneous to that person, something external, not even after death."

~ Pope Benedict XV

PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in You will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of Your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of Your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all who love them, they may ever praise You for Your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Your prayers are a welcome gift and are needed for the success of our Capital Campaign.

Call Karen Broussard at the parish office for more information.

Mrs. Rose Richard has served St. Peter Parish as Sacristan for over 20 years. Her love and dedication for Jesus and His church became ever more apparent in the creative way she found to cope with the months of having to work between the church and the parish hall to prepare for Mass during the recent repairs & improvements. Mrs. Rose and her little wagon became a familiar and inspiring sight to all of us! Thank you, Mrs. Rose, for your dedication and example!!

DIOCESE OF LAFAYETTE

Centennial News LETTER SETS DIOCESE OF LAFAYETTE

INTO MOTION The very beginnings of the Diocese of Lafayette could be traced to a meeting of regional bishops held in July 1917. At the

conclusion of that meeting, a letter was sent to the Apostolic Delegate of the Holy Father in the United States. The letter proclaimed that “there was unanimity among the Bishops in presenting the request for a new diocese to Your Excellency.” The new diocese would consist of the western most part of the Archdiocese of New Orleans from the Atchafalaya River to the Sabine River. The total number of Catholics in the new diocese would be around 150,000 or 25% of the Catholics within the Archdiocese of New Orleans at the time.

O Lord Jesus Christ, great High Priest, I pray that You call many worthy souls to Your holy priesthood. Enlighten the Bishop and Vocation Director in the choice of candidates, the Spiritual Directors in molding them, and the professors in instructing them. Lead the seminarians daily in Your unerring footsteps, so that they may become priests who are models of purity, possessors of wisdom, and heroes of sacrifice. May they be steeped in humility and aflame with love for God and man, apostles of Your glory, and sanctifiers of souls. Mary, Queen of the Clergy, pray for us. Amen.

“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU” St. Faustina: "Although outwardly I meet with many sufferings and various adversities, this does not, however, lessen my interior life for a moment nor disturb my inner silence. I do not fear at all being abandoned by creatures because, even if all abandoned me, I would not be alone, for the Lord is with me. And even if the Lord were to hide, love will know how to find Him. For love knows no gates or guards; even the keen-eyed Cherub himself, with his flaming sword, will not stop love; it will work its way through wilderness, and scorching heat, through storm, thunder and darkness, and will reach the source from which it came, and there it will endure forever. All things will come to an end; but love, never." (Diary 1022)

NOVENA IN HONOR OF ST. BENEDICT July 3rd -11th

Feast of St. Benedict – July 11th

Our Holy Father, blessed by God both in grace and in name, yielded his angelic spirit into the hands of his Creator, while standing in prayer with his hands raised to heaven.

You have crowned him, O Lord, with glory and honor.

You have placed him over the works of your hands.

Enliven in Your Church, O Lord, the spirit which animated our Holy Father, the Abbot St. Benedict, so that, filled with the same spirit, we may learn to love what he loved and to practice what he taught.

Grant us perseverance in Your holy service, O Lord, so that the people serving You in our days may increase both in merit and in number. May all the monks in the ranks of the saints join their intercessions to ours so that You, Almighty Father, may hear us through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Stewardship is the grateful response of a Christian disciple who recognizes and receives God's gifts and shares

these gifts in love of God and neighbor.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR FAITHFUL STEWARDSHIP!

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

In today’s second reading, St. Paul offers the community at Corinth a spirituality of giving. He urges them to give and maintains that through their generosity, they will in turn be given in return much spiritual abundance. They will receive from those who are the beneficiaries of their own giving; a reciprocal gift that amounts to an equality of giving, made possible through the generous mediation of Christ Himself. This is an excellent reading for reflecting on the spirituality of giving. This week, take time to reflect on the ways you might discover a deeper joy in Jesus Christ because of your own generosity toward others.

ROSARY FOR PEACE - A Rosary for peace for our country & our soldiers will be prayed every Thursday before 6:30am Mass.

PRO-LIFE REFLECTIONS

May the Lord cause your love to increase and overflow for one another and for everyone else. ~1 Thes 3:12

REFLECTION: The Pope and bishops have told us that we are not to “accommodate ourselves” to laws permitting abortion.

This means much more than simply not having or participating in an abortion. It means not letting anything keep us from loving and defending the unborn.

PRAYER: Lord, let my love overflow all boundaries, that I may resist anyone’s effort to limit my love for those who are in danger of death.

PICTURES OF LOVED ONES SERVING IN THE ARMED FORCES If you would like to have a picture of your loved one included in the church display of loved ones currently serving in the military we ask that you bring a photo to the parish office during regular office hours. All photos need to be in a standing frame no smaller than 2x3 and no larger than 5x7. We will need a name and contact information for each picture so as to periodically purge the table of those who are no longer on active duty. All pictures that were on display prior to the renovations are being held in the parish office. We ask that a family member come by to pick up the pictures of those who are no longer active or to provide contact information for those that meet the above requirements and are currently on active duty.
