e grass is always greener…on the other side of winter! Now that people have been able to shake o some of those winter cobwebs, we can look at having an eventful summer ahead.

River Springs Water Park will be operating for the 6th summer. Opening day is June 6th at 4:00pm, join us that evening to kick o the summer right! Daily specials, Facebook specials and Special Event days are scheduled throughout the summer. Come check out the climbing wall, body slide or tube slide, and for the little ones we have zero depth entry, and if you’d rather relax, oat along the Lazy River!

Since 1985, America has celebrated July as the nation’s o cial Park and Recreation Month. is year, NRPA has selected the theme OUT is IN…focusing on setting trends instead of following them. Now 2014 is the year people will go OUTside, change their OUTlook and get INvolved in their community through parks and recreation. Each July, our department strives to provide families with unique and fun OUTside opportunities for the whole family. is year marks our 4th Annual Owatonna’s Weekend Out. e weekend will kick o Friday night with the showing of Frozen in Central Park. So mark your calendar for July 11-13, and look for more details about other Weekend Out activities coming soon!

We’re in our third season of Movies in the Park at Central Park. Mark your calendars for June 20, July 11 and August 22. Movies will start at sunset each of those nights. Get your blankets and lawn chairs ready for a night under the stars! We have an exciting lineup, starting with e Sandlot, then Frozen just when our weather is the warmest, and nishing up with Yogi Bear.

Every summer opportunities abound at our local parks! Our department is especially proud of the high quality parks and trails we have in our community. Whether you’re looking to play some volleyball, pitch some horseshoes, have a barbeque, take a walk, or just relax, we have the park for you. e Pickleball courts at Morehouse Park were completed last fall and are ready for a full summer of play this year. If you haven’t tried Pickleball, no matter what age you are, give it a try; it’s a great way to get exercise and enjoy some friendly competition! And opportunities just keep getting better…keep an eye out for e Clubhouse, coming soon to Manthey Park! is is a brand new outdoor themed playground from Burke Playgrounds, and Owatonna will be the rst in Minnesota to have one!

SeniorPlace is growing! We’re working hard to o er programming for seniors and Boomers! A few big events coming up are the Senior Expo on May 7th featuring speaker Ron Shara and his dog Raven, the Antique Appraisal on May 31st, and Silver Streaks so ball is gearing up for another season. And talk about Bang for your Buck…along with your SeniorPlace membership (only $37.41 per person!), you’re part of a business partnership program with 50 local businesses participating! Just show your card and in most cases, receive a discount, just a few uses and the membership pays for itself.

And what’s summer without a few rounds of golf? Whether you’re an occasional hacker or a Jack Nicklaus, you’re sure to enjoy Brooktree. e 18-hole course provides plenty of challenging holes, scenic views and a great 19th hole! More Brooktree information and some new golf specials are listed later in this brochure.

Don’t miss any of our summer activities…stay connected…like our Facebook pages (Owatonna Parks & Recreation, Owatonna SeniorPlace, River Springs Water Park and Brooktree Golf Course), and bookmark our website – www.ci.owatonna.mn.us/parksrecreation

We look forward to seeing you out and about this summer!
