Pretty in pink! My name is

Sugar Pie and I’ve been treated

like a princess ever since I was

born at Paw’s Place in 2006.

However, I think it’s time that I found my very

own Royal Family. How about yours?

I’m a Redbone/Bloodhound mix girl with floppy ears as soft as

butter. I also have the most kissable

mouth. In fact, I kiss people all the time because I’m extremely friendly and affectionate. I am a house-trained girl who LOVES people, but I’d prefer to be the only four-legged companion in

your castle. As for my health, I am already spayed, vaccinated and on monthly heartworm prevention. I really want to be a beloved family

member. Would you let me be your girl? Call my friends at Paw’s Place at 910-845-7297 and let’s

meet! I’d now like to thank photographer Dick Parrott for capturing my beauty on the cover. I

really enjoyed the treats they gave me during the photo shoot. I’m sure my new family will be giving

me treats, too. Please pick up that phone so we can begin our new lives together!

I think they gave me a pretty name – Xena (pronounced Zena). When I was just a puppy someone dumped me and my brother in the

woods of Boiling Spring Lakes. People tried to help us, but we

were too scared. It took months to catch us. We were taken to Paws Place where we have been given great care. My brother has been adopted and I’m hoping my turn

will come soon. I’m a female Plott Hound mix and about 45 pounds. I am up-to-date on all of my shots, spayed and am heartworm nega-

tive! I am still learning to trust people. I can be very skittish and given the opportunity, I WILL bolt, so I would need a good fenced-in yard and not ever be left unattended in the yard. I did very well on my first venture to adoption days. I think I could get used to

some of these nice things. I will need to have a loving fam-ily that will be very patient with me. I am smart and I can

learn. Won’t you give me a chance at a better life? Come visit me at Paws Place - they are open every day from 9 to

Noon and their number is 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington.

HURRY, HURRY!! My Time Is

Running Out!! I’m a loving girl named Cocoa (A004048) and I’ve been waiting for a

family at Animal Control since June 25! That’s a

long time to wait and there just isn’t enough

room for everyone! Won’t someone please visit -

you just might fall in love! Take at look at my sweet

and happy face. I’m a very good girl! I’m a 2 to 3-year-old Lab mix who

once had a family. They moved away and couldn’t take me with them. That’s a shame because I’m an excellent com-panion and would make some other person or family very

happy. It was great to come out of my kennel for my photo. Won’t you give me a chance? Please call Pender County Animal Control at 910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-

279-3196 for directions or more information. It’ll be a great day when I see you!

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

Sylvia here…thought I would put the word out that I am ready for a furever home! I have had a rough year or so. I was attacked by other cats; the next thing I remember the tip of my tail was broken and I was in a very scary

place. My foster mommy saved me from a terrible fate. I love my foster people, but I am very frightened by all the noise from the other foster kitties here. I enjoy looking out windows, getting lots of love from my people and

snuggling up at night. I yearn for a quiet home without other cats where I can continue to blossom into the beau-

tiful cat that I’m destined to be. By the way, the photo doesn’t do me justice, my foster mommy says I am the

prettiest cat she has ever seen. (And that must be saying a lot based on the number of cats coming and going from this house!) So, please give her a call and come out to visit with me. I am much too shy to go back to Petsmart with all of those pesky kittens running around! Please

call 919-710-3872 to make arrangements for us to meet. Oh yeah, I’m already spayed and vaccinated so I’m ready

to be adopted by you today!!

Hi, I'm Emma and I’m a super sweet girl who is looking for a home to call my own. I have

been with my foster mom for awhile and even though I love her a lot, I want a family who’s all

mine, forever! I am a really good girl

who knows to potty outside, and knows what things like sit mean. I am really good in public and even got to walk in the St. Patty's Day Parade in Raleigh. I would love to find a home with a big

fenced in yard where I can play, a comfy bed to sleep on, and a human to take me for long walks and car rides.

Maybe even a home with a furry friend since I really like to hang out with other dogs, even the small ones. One of my

friends here is even a cat. I am spayed, current on vaccina-tions, heartworm negative and on prevention and ready to be adopted today! If you want to be my forever human,

please contact 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue and they can tell you all about me. You can call 252-531-0744, send an

email to [email protected] or visit www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC791.html for more info.

I need some-one to love! How about

you? Could I fill that empty spot in your heart? My

name is Molly and

I’m a young, mixed-breed girl who is

looking forward to a happier life. I was abused in my former home, but SOAR has two great trainers named Amy and Kelley who have helped me tremendously! I have blos-

somed and am ready to find my forever family. I am eager to please and grateful for lots of attention. I get along swell with other dogs and cats and have also been spayed and

vaccinated. I have a sister named Lilly who is also looking for love. She can be seen on page 14. We do not need to be adopted together, although it would be great if we could!

Won’t you please come out to SOAR and meet us? Call 910-457-6340 for driving directions or more information.

I am sponsored by SOAR in loving memory of

all their wonderful, furry friends who made it safely to the Rainbow Bridge.

Double the love in your

life by adopt-ing both of us!

My name is Tito and I’m

the black/brown Tabby on the left. Beside me

with the white chest is my

brother Youk. We’re best buddies and would love to find a home

together. How about yours? You’ll be so happy you took us home because we are loverboys who make everyone smile! We are very playful - just give us a toy mouse or string and we’ll be busy for hours. We love to be rubbed behind our ears and we purr ALL the time. You just can’t give us too much attention or cuddles. We are 16-weeks-old and already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox–trained. Would you like to know more about adopting us? Call Cat Adoption Team at 910-792-9014. We’re also at Petsmart

seven days a week!

We are sponsored in appreciation of everyone who has rescued a homeless animal.

Adopt-An-ANGEL

September 2012 www.facebook.com/PawPrintsMagazine 9

►My name is Ralph and I am one of last year's

puppies who was re-turned when I was 9 to

11-months-old. You see, that happens A LOT. I

am good with cats, dogs, kids and love to play,

play, play. I am working on leash-training and

some other basic com-mands. I’m not a cute

puppy anymore and that's a setback, but I am now

full grown and you will know exactly what you are getting if you adopt

me. If you have a lonely dog who needs some

exercise, I’m your boy. I would love another dog to

tumble and play with.

►My name is Wicka and I am unbelievably sweet. I am such

a good girl. I am very well-behaved and don't jump or act

crazy at all. I am super calm. I am deaf so it would be great if

someone adopted me who is patient and willing to learn how to communicate with me other than through words (hand mo-

tions, sign language, etc.) I am good with larger dogs, but cats

and small dogs are a little too interesting for me to be around.

I am already spayed, heart-worm negative and have all my

shots.

◄My name is Luna and I am a purebred Boxer. In 2007, Adopt-An-Angel rescued me after I was hit by a car. They

raised $800 to put a steel plate and pins in my leg to save it and I was adopted

shortly thereafter. Fast for-ward to 2012 and my owners divorced and I found myself with my friend, George, at a local Animal Control. Adopt-

An-Angel rescued me again. I am good with other dogs, kids, but do not do well with cats. I am a sweetheart who is house-trained and super adorable. I walk with a limp, and hold my leg completely straight but I get around ok. George is a purebred Beagle and really

SWEET! You can adopt both me and George together or

you can separate us if neces-sary, but please just give us another chance...

◄Here I am and my name is Kimmy. I am a knee high little girl who is so friendly. I would be a great apartment dog and I am good with other ani-mals. When you come home, I wag my whole body not just my tail. That's how happy I am to see you and I am so happy to be alive. I am sponsored by Terry Garri-son who paid my adop-tion fee to save my life!

►My name is Nora and I am a FANTASTIC fam-ily pet! I am great with dogs, cats, kids and am

an unbelievably well balanced dog. I am just a really good girl. I am

playful at times and then laid back at others. I am really super sweet. I am mid-sized at around 40

pounds and I am house-trained, too. I’m the best dog Adopt-An-Angel has

right now, if I do say so myself!

►My name is Jasper and I am all about PLAY. I am a

puppy who spent 2-months of my puppyhood at a shelter so

I am now making up for LOST TIME! I am full of

beans and FULL OF LIFE! I could use another older set-

tled dog in the home to teach me the ropes, learn some

manners and keep me in line. I am your typical teenage kid

who thinks the world IS A PARTY! I am a mid-sized

BEAUTIFUL boy who is very charming.

Page 10: PawPrints Magazine September 2012

Did you know that more black dogs are euthanized than any

other coat color? Boy, was I lucky to be pulled from the

shelter! My number was up and lucky for you I’m still available

for adoption! My name is Vixen and I’m a 2-year-old flat-coated or Lab Re-triever mix. I am one of the five

“Santa’s Reindeer” dogs being trained through the Pawsi-

tive Partners Prison Program. I, along with my doggie friend Dasher, have already been through three months of training so with this additional nine weeks I’m going to be one sharp cookie! Needless to say, I am spayed, up to date on my shots and microchipped. Adopt me and I come with my own crate, toys, leash and collar, not to mention a training DVD for you so you can learn all the

things I’ve been taught…what a deal, huh? Interested in me or one of the other Santa’s Reindeer? Find out more by calling my elf helper Monica at 910-297-1338 or email her at [email protected]. Better yet, fill out an ap-

plication at www.montyshome.org and she’ll call you!

I am sponsored by Connie, our little “Secret Santa” who donates this space making

every month Christmas!

Aren’t I a dash-ing fellow?

That’s because my name is Dasher. I’m

actually named after one of

Santa’s Rein-deer because

that is the theme for the

five of us shel-ter dogs en-rolled in the

Pawsitive Part-ners Prison

Program here at Pender Cor-rectional Facil-ity. I’m about

2-years-old and a Beagle/Jack Russell mix. I’ve already had 3-months of

training at another facility and was transferred here for another nine weeks so, wow, I’m gonna graduate with my Doctorate degree in manners! I’ve had all my shots and

am microchipped and neutered. I’ll graduate early Novem-ber and be ready for my forever home just in time to share the holidays with you. Did I mention I am very well-trained and come with my own toys, leash, collar and crate?! To

apply for me, go to www.montyshome.org, email [email protected] or call 910-297-1338.

I am sponsored by Connie at Dog Speak who supports

our training shelter dogs before adoption program!

◄My name is Tinkerbell (A057068) and I’m one of the sweetest little kitties you ever did see! I’m an orange and white Tabby girl, just 5-months-old. I am so happy when someone approaches the door of my cage. I’m always ready to be hugged and loved! I also love to play with cat toys. Just give me a jingly ball and I’ll chase it! I was found as a stray. Make me yours!

CAT and KITTEN Adoption Fee: Just $15!

Includes a physical examination, feline leukemia/FIV test, rabies vaccination and spay surgery.

◄I hope my happy face has melted

your heart! It’s not right that a gem like me should be sitting at Animal Control. My name is Bailey (A057603) and I’m a 2-year-old female

Lab mix with a super-friendly

personality. I’m a cuddler! I’d be a great family friend and companion. I love to be rubbed and my tail wags

whenever you give me attention. My family could no

longer keep me so now I’m here. Can we go to your place?

◄Better hurry if you want to adopt a purebred blue and cream Persian! I’m so pretty, I hope there will be a line of people waiting to fill out the paperwork! Call today about me and they can tell you more. My name is KiKi (A057486) and I lost my home due to one of the human’s severe allergies. What a shame! I’m a sweetheart with a loving personality. You’ll be adopting a great girl!

◄This stuffed mouse is a good playmate, but I’d rather have a real human! My name is Benjamin (A057722) and I’m a kitten boy who loves to be touched and loved on by people. I will melt your heart as I purr and rub myself against you. There’s not a mean bone in my body - I am so happy to be cuddled and kissed. I was found as a stray and am a very hand-some grey and white Tabby. Take me home with you!

►You might want to take me to the beach, the park or a baseball game...after all, my name is Umpire

(A056169)! Whatever we do, I’ll be happy as long as we’re together. I’m a very friendly Walker Hound mix boy, just

2-years-old. I’m up to date on my rabies and

parvo/distermper vaccinations and I was

surrendered to the shelter by owners who were

unable to keep me. Their loss can be your gain!

I’m a darling fellow, so happy and loving. Please adopt me!

Spot ►Looking for a

laid-back and relaxed feline? You’ve come to

the right place! My name is Bonney (A057218) and

I’m a gentle, loving girl. Just open my cage and I’ll

sit quietly while you rub me, purring the whole

time. It was easy for them to take my photo because I’m content just to be with

you, I don’t try to jump down and escape.

Wouldn’t you love a loyal companion like me?

Calling all puppy lovers who like to swim! I’m

Abby, a 1-year-old King Charles Cavalier Spaniel/Cocker Spaniel mix who LOVES the water. I was

severely mistreated by my former owners and

Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas is working with me to overcome my fears.

Nothing is better than water therapy. I will swim all day

if you let me! I’m a gor-geous girl with the softest

coat you will ever see and, at just 19 pounds, I’m a great size. I am house-trained, good with other dogs, I ride well in the car, and walk well on a leash. My fear is with new people so I need a patient and loving owner. It only took

me two days to completely warm up in my foster home, so I am very resilient. Please give me a chance to make a

match. I am spayed, up to date on shots, heartworm negative, and micro-chipped. If you are interested in me

and would like to apply to adopt me, or if you would like to view more adoptable cuties, please visit

www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org. If you need an application mailed to you, please call 910-264-8300.

Is there a compassion-ate cat lover

out there who would give a home to an

older boy like me? At 11-

years-old, it’s just not right that I should

have to spend my

days and nights in a shelter - I deserve to be part of a lov-ing family! My name is Murphy and I’m an incredibly lov-ing and affectionate fellow. I am pure black, with a thick

and luxurious coat that you will love sinking your fingers in. I will love it also, as I can’t get enough attention from hu-mans. Cuddle me all you like and I’ll let you know how

much I’m enjoying it by my purrs. I do get along with other cats, so if you have other felines, that’s all right by me.

And yes, I am neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. All I need is you! Won’t you please take me home? Give SOAR a call at 910-457-6340 and tell them you’d like to

come meet me.

I am sponsored by Netop. Thank you!

I haven’t yet been snapped up so this could be your very lucky day. Let’s go home!

◄I’m a blue-eyed, Seal Point Siamese boy named Button! And cute as a button, too, I must say. At just 16-weeks-old, I’m a very sweet fellow who can be a little shy at first. In fact, we’d love to be adopted together! Think about it and come meet us!

►I’m a very handsome light-gray Tabby with a

white tail tip and my name is Ray! I sure do love to

play, especially with other kitties and also my brother

new folks to play with! I am a 16-week-old fellow who is

already neutered, up to date on shots and litterbox-trained. Come on over and let’s enjoy a visit. You just might fall in love with me!

►Look at my beautiful face! It’s like a painting, isn’t it? Just think of the joy you’ll have in waking up to me every morning! My name is Neicy and

I’m a 16-week-old dilute Calico girl with a playful

attitude toward life. I really enjoy skipping around and chasing toys, but I also slow

down long enough to be picked up and cuddled.

I get along well with dogs and other cats and I am spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. I was rescued from Animal Control with only 24 hours left to

live. Now I have a lifetime to look forward to with you!

◄Cuddly and snuggly! That describes me to a ‘T’. My name is Maiden and I’m a 3-month-old girl who is relaxed and easy-going. I sure do love being with people and other cats. At night there is nothing I’d rather do than curl up with my human and catch some winks! I have a soothing purr that will put you right to sleep. As for my health, I’m already spayed, vaccinated and trained for the litterbox.

Cat Tails

◄Even though my name is Hans, I don't wear lederhosen. I leave that embarrass-ing moment for the humans. I am a 4-month-old orange and white Tabby who is very active. If I have a pensive look on my face that's be-cause my brother got adopted and I didn't. How could that have happened! If you take me home, I promise we won't have to eat sauerkraut!

►When they said they were in

legal trouble I didn’t think I would be in-volved! My

name is Carrie and I lost my

home in a law-suit. That is just crazy! I guess I

didn’t have a good enough

lawyer. Remem-ber to always

choose wisely. I am a 3-year-old loving cat who is looking for another home. If you adopt me there will be no legal documents, I promise!

►They call me Truffle because I’m dark like chocolate and so very sweet.

Of course I am black and that might be the reason no one has adopted me. Black

cats are often the last to go. I am a 5-

month-old female sweetie. Don’t make me one of those kitties who waits

years to get adopted. Go against the statistics and adopt a black kitty! You’ll be glad you did.

▲My name is Mosby and I am 4-month-old light gray kitten, who happens to have a twin sister, Marbles. Well we don't know if were are identical, but we sure do look

alike. These are our baby pictures because we move so fast now that all of our pictures are blurry. If you want a great set of kittens, we would be the right choice. You don't have to take us both, but how often do you get to

raise beautiful twins?

◄I'm named after the king of rock and roll, Presley. And just like the king, I love to shake, rattle and roll. In cat terms, that means I like to play. I am a beautiful Tortie and I just cele-brated my first birthday. Next I’d like to celebrate having a new home. So if you want a lot of fun, but someone who will snuggle as well, come get me. We can listen to rock and roll the whole way home.

◄Even big girls like to eat. Just

take a look. I like to say I have big

bones and a lot of fur - makes me

look bigger than I am! My name is

Paulette and I am a buff kitty who is

almost 6-years-old. The good thing

about me is that I require a little less food, at least that’s

what they say. And guess what, I am too big to jump up on the counters or

tables. So bring a big carrier and take me home.

HURRY, HURRY!! My Time Is About To Run

Out!! There must be some mis-take! I’m a genuine cutie

pie named Elizabeth (A003881) and I’ve been

living at Animal Control for over two months! I arrived

on June 14 to be exact. The officer found me stroll-ing down the road in Maple

Hill, as happy as can be even though I was lost. My family never claimed me, so

this could be your lucky day! (And mine too, that’s for sure.) I am the size of a

Corgi, but I look like a miniature Black Lab. I’d say I’m just perfect for cuddling and playing. They think I’m about

2-years-old and I get along great with my doggie room-mate. He’s a boy and he’s much bigger than me, but I’ve

charmed him! Won’t you please come meet me? You just might fall in love! Call Pender County Animal Control at

910-259-1349 or Officer Clewis at 910-279-3196 for direc-tions or more information.

I am sponsored in honor of Kathleen M. Langone.

Hi there! We are Hocus and

Pocus and we’d like to cast a spell

on you! Don’t worry, you’re

going to like it! We will make you

fall in love and we don’t even need a magic

passion formula. All you have to

do is come meet us, cuddle us in your hands and

presto!... love will hit you like a ton of bricks. We are a boy and a girl, just 20-weeks of age and we love to play, cuddle, purr, hop, skip and nap. Come get us today! If you would like to know more info

about us or would like to inquire about the adoption proc-ess, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

I am sponsored by Perry Davis. Thank you!

◄Hi there, my name is Charles. I am from a litter of

five blind kittens who were dumped on the doorstep of Capeside Animal Hospital. Can you believe that?! We

were only a few weeks old at the time. Even though I am blind, I am healthy, playful

and have a charming person-ality. I am neutered, current on all vaccinations and litter-

box trained. Really quite adorable as you can see.

Please come visit me in the lobby of Capeside Animal

Hospital. I know I would make a very special addition to your family.

▲Talk about getting off to a bad start in life. We are Stevie and Wonder, our other 3 siblings have all been adopted. We were left on the doorstep of Capeside Animal Hospital

when we were only a few weeks old. We are healthy as can be but unfortunately, we’re blind. Even though we can’t see, it does not hamper our charming personalities. We are play-ful, neutered and current on all vaccinations. We really are

quite precious and adorable. If we can be adopted to-gether, a kind benefactor will pay for our adoption fee.

Come visit us in the lobby of Capeside Animal Hospital.

►Hi there! It’s me again, Darla, and I don’t under-stand why I

have not been adopted yet. I am so much

fun to be with, full of energy, love to play with all dogs and humans

and I am such a good cud-dler! I went out on trial

once but the current top dog of the

house did not want me around so the humans had to return me. The humans were sad to let me go, said I was the perfect

guest, slept all night on my dog bed, no accidents in the house, loving and did I mention FUN! I am healthy, cur-rent on all vaccinations, crate and leash-trained, spayed

and micro-chipped. Won’t somebody please bring me into your family and give me a home to call my own?

►My name is Flo and I am one lucky

little girl. I was stuck in a water drain until some

nice folks rescued me. Luckily, I sur-vived without any

injuries. I am 14-weeks-old,

spayed and cur-rent on all vaccina-

tions. No more drain pipes for me, now I need a loving home. You can visit

me at Capeside Animal Hospital 7 days a week.

◄Hi there, it’s me

again. My name is

Lucy. I was in PawPrints last month too and am wondering

why I am still looking for a home and

family. I had a home

when I was a puppy but

was surren-dered because the human was unable to care for me. I am

a beautiful light brown brindle female Labrador mix who only weighs 35 pounds. Since I am 9-months-old, I won’t

get much bigger. I am very friendly and smart, I learn com-mands quickly, I’m crate and house-trained, I walk well on

a leash, I’m current on all vaccinations, and I’m spayed and micro-chipped. I love to play with all humans, even those little ones. I have been in doggie day care so people can attest to my great attitude and ability to play well with oth-

ers. Don’t I sound just perfect! I know I would make a very good addition to your family.

Hey ya'll, I'm Scarlett! I am a

3-year-old girl who is looking for a home. My old

owners used to let me run the

neighborhood. Animal Control

came and picked me up as a stray but luckily for me, some nice rescue

lady saved me because my old

humans never came for me. The rescue lady said I needed some training so I went to this doggy school

where they taught me how to have manners and listen to instructions. Everyone tells me how good I am now and it’s awesome! I want to find a human who likes to go for car rides as much as I do (it’s my favorite thing to do). I

like hanging out with other dogs but sometimes dominant females get on my nerves. I like hanging out with the boy dogs and wrestling. I know how to wait to go outside to potty, and love to sit on the couch and watch TV. I have already been to the doctor and they say I am fully vetted, and my foster mom gives me a pill every month to prevent worms in my heart. So I guess I am all ready for a home to call my own, don't you want to adopt me? Contact my nice rescue lady and she can tell you all about me. Her name is Lisa and she is with 4 Paw LifeSaver Rescue.

Her phone number is 252-531-0744, her email address is [email protected] and our website address is

www.petfinder.com/shelters/NC791.html.

Hi! I’m Lilly. I just love people. I’m always interested

in seeing what other people are

doing and want to be right there with them. The good people at Paws

Place say that I’m a Spaniel mix,

maybe even a little Dalmatian thrown in for good meas-

ure. I’m about 55 pounds and 8-years-old (pretty good shape for an older dog, huh!) I’ve called Paws Place my home for about a year now. I had this great home with three other dogs (yes, I do like dogs, but I like to be the

boss). I arrived at Paws Place because my owner got very sick and couldn’t take care of us anymore. The good news

is that my friends were adopted. I just don’t understand why I haven’t been. I’m very affectionate and I can be very

playful. When they take me out to adoption events, they like to make me look cool, like putting on sunglasses or sitting in a beach chair. I really like doing that. I know

where I’m supposed to use the toilet (outside) and I’m up to date on all my shots AND I’m heartworm negative. I’ve got lots of love to give – can I give it to you? Please call Paws Place at 910-845-7297. They’ll be happy to give you driv-

ing directions or tell you even more!

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in lov-ing memory of Charleston and Scarlet, who loved all their sisters and brothers. We all miss you so much.

►My name is Kovu (A273916) and I’m a brindle German Shep-herd mix. I am just 1½-years-old

and was surrendered by my owners. I know how to sit, shake and lay down on command and I have an inquisitive nature. I’m eager to please and easily cor-rected. I’m sweet, loving and enjoy being near you. I’ll be

content sitting next to you on the couch or will be happy to enter-

tain you with my goofy antics as I play with my toys. I have a lot of

character, I’m obedient and I want to be a real family member and not just “a dog”.

◄You have no idea how close I came to going

home with one of the Paw-Prints Magazine ladies. Fortunately for you, the

timing isn’t right for her so now I can go home with

you! Hi, my name is Jazmin (A275303) and I’m

a brown and white Jack Russell Terrier. I’m petite

and full of love. I was picked up as a stray on

Oleander Drive in Wilming-ton. I’m very sweet, good with other dogs, gentle,

laid back, know how to sit on command, and am ex-tremely loyal. I am a Lap Dog and have been overwhelmed being here at the shelter so I would really appreciate it if you would come adopt me today. I’m ready to be in your home where I can be your new bestest friend in the whole wide world! I was lucky enough to be rescued from the streets and now I hope I’m lucky enough to be part of your loving

family. How about it? Would you come save me?

►My name is Sampson (A275308) and Animal Control saved me from the streets. I wasn’t al-ways a stray though

because I know how to sit, shake and lay down on command. I’m also

leash-trained! I’m a happy boy who will be a great companion and

perfect family dog. I would enjoy just chilling out at home with you or I would be happy to go on adventures, walks or even go on family vacations with you. I have a gentle nature and will take

treats delicately from your fingers. I’m a Border Collie mix and I’m eager to meet you. Please give me the second

chance at life that I deserve. You won’t regret it!!

►Would you like to adopt a very cute, happy and loving kitten?

My name is Brie (A276055) and I’m a 4-month-old social butter-

fly in a fur suit. I like playing with toys, I have a great person-

ality, I have a loud purr ma-chine, and I’m everything you could ever want in feline com-

panion. I’m already spayed and vaccinated against Rabies. If

you want a loveable and goofy girl, today is your lucky day!

►My name is Molly (A275737) and I’m a

Calico and gray Tabby girl. I am approximately 1-year-old, have already

been spayed and am vaccinated against Ra-

bies. I am a very sweet cuddler who came to the shelter as an owner turn in. Their mistake could

be your gain! I’m laid back and love being

held. I like exploring and eating yummy treats.

Adopt me today!

◄Got kids? That’s cool with me. Got cats? That’s cool with me, too. Got dogs?

That’s still cool with me. My name is Moose (A276415)

and I’m a cool 6-month-old boy who is beyond handsome. I

mean, I have some really good looks going on here. I was surrendered by my owners because they were moving

and couldn’t take me. Maybe I should have been named

Cedric because I’m quite the entertainer and I will keep you amused for hours. I was

playing with some toys and decided to hop in the sink for my photo op. Let’s get this love fest of ours goin’!

◄Hey there, my name is Storm! I’m a 6-month-old Pastel Tortoiseshell girl who is as sweet and loving as can be. See the orange Tabby pictured next to me? That’s my mom! And below me on the page is my sister, Sernia. We are all used to living indoors-only and we get along okay with other cats and dogs. I have a playful and friendly personality and I really like humans. Let’s go home!

◄Hello there, friends, my name is Scrappy! I’m a 4-year-old Boxer mix boy who weighs in at a solid

85 pounds. I’m a marshmallow, though,

who loves to cuddle and I’m great with children. I used to have a home but my former owner had no time to take care of me. That’s where you come in! Do you have room in your heart and home for me? I’m looking for a

kind family with a fenced-in yard. I like other dogs and am already neutered

and on heartworm prevention. I love to eat treats and will take them gently from your fingers. Let’s be best friends!

►Look at my adorable paws! It’s like I’m reach-

ing up to you, saying “Please Hug Me!” My

name is Sernia and I’m a 6-month-old Tortoiseshell

girl who everyone just loves to hold and cuddle.

I’m so very sweet and charming. My mom

Clementine is also here as well as my sister Storm. We are great with kids, cats and dogs. We’re

used to living indoors only. Adopt one or more of us!

◄Do you love purebred Cocker Spaniels? My name is Miya and I’m one of those! I arrived at the shelter just two days ago and am now spayed. I’m getting used to my surroundings and making friends. I weigh just 19 pounds and am good with children and house-trained. I used to live in an apartment but my owners moved to another place that didn’t allow pets. I’m a gentle girl who just wants to be loved!

◄Pardon me if I don’t get up, but I just had my spay surgery and I’m a little drowsy from

the drugs they gave me. I’m happy that I’m

spayed because I gave birth to two kittens a while ago and I don’t

want to go through that again! My name is Clementine and I’m avail-able for adoption along with Storm and Sernia, my children

who are pictured on this page. I’m a darling, loving girl!

►They tell me I’m

gorgeous with my solid black, silky long hair.

What do you think? My name is

Blackie and I’m an adult

neutered boy who one day showed up at someone’s home. The human who lived there would

have liked to have kept me, but she was already owned by an elderly dog who just didn’t want me around. I’m a sweetheart so maybe you will adopt me! I love to be

rubbed and am very friendly. Come and visit with me!

Page 22: PawPrints Magazine September 2012

Why am I still homeless?! Please won’t someone give me a chance and love me?

My name is Sadie and I am homeless because my owner went in to a nursing home. I have been shuf-

fled around quite a bit since then and am ready to

settle down in a loving home. I absolutely love

men, women and teenag-ers but I’m looking for a family without small hu-

mans, cats and other dogs. My most favorite thing in the world is going for a

walk. My second favorite thing is sitting next to you while we watch movies or while we sit outside and watch the world go by. I’m a beautiful 6 to 7-year-old girl who is in good health. I’ve been spayed, vaccinated and

tested negative for heartworms. Everyone here loves me so much and will have a hard time seeing me go but they know living in a kennel is not a life for a great companion like me. I’m ready to snuggle, are you? To make arrangements to meet me or to learn more about me, call 910-799-4500 or

email [email protected].

I am sponsored by Pine Valley Animal Hospital in honor of all those who rescue older pets.

I don't really like the term "dumped", but I guess that is what happened to me and my brother, Freddie. My name is Mack and we were left at the gate of Paws Place in early

2008. They treat us very well and we get to play with other dogs, too. But we think we would really like to have an

inside home. One where we can get in out of the weather.

It would be especially nice if we could be adopted together.

We've never been apart. We enjoy going to adoption days and getting to meet new peo-

ple, but every once in a while it can be a little scary for us when we hear or see things that we are not familiar with - like the sound of a motorcycle or a

siren. The vet has given us a clean bill of health - we're neu-tered and up to date on shots.

We are pretty Red Tick Hound mixes who weigh about 40 pounds and are just waiting for the right family. Please

come by Paws Place between 9am and Noon any day and see us. We're in the first two kennels when you come in.

You can also call the shelter at 910-845-7297.

We are sponsored by State Farm Rob Cutting Agency in memory of Molly.

My owner got sick and couldn’t take care of me anymore.

That’s how I, Blue, a 9-year-old long-haired Chihuahua, ended up at Paws Place. I’m living in a

nice foster home that has several other Chihuahuas and I get along

with them. They have these funny looking animals, I think they are called ferrets. They are okay, too. I suppose if I get along with them, I’d probably be okay with a cat, too!

When the volunteers noticed I seemed to be in some pain and favoring my hind legs, they took me to the vet. The vet

thinks that I have some arthritis and maybe a torn ACL. They aren't sure that I need surgery since I seem to have

improved on medication and I've rested quite a bit. I would love to be in a home with an older person who doesn't have young children. It's not that I don't get along with them, but it hurts me when they want to play all of the time. I need a quiet home and someone who will let me be a lap dog. Do you know anyone that fits that description? If you think you do, please have them contact Paws Place at 910-845-7297

and set up an appointment to meet me.

PAW’S PLACE NEEDS YOUR FINANCIAL HELP! Since January we have taken in 53 dogs,

that is the number of dogs taken in for all of 2011! While we have found homes for 32 dogs, we still are home to 48. At least 12 of these dogs

are older that require specialty foods, pain medication and vet visits. Could you please help us? Any monetary amount would be greatly ap-

preciated! Tax-deductible donations can be made through Pay Pal at www.pawsplace.org or sending it to: Paw’s Place, 3701 E. Boiling Spring Rd., Winnabow, NC 28479. Thank you so much!

◄It’s me, Nadia. I came from a litter of eight. I’m the last one to get adopted – you know what they say, “Last but

NOT least.” I’m 5-months-old

now and about 32 pounds. Mom was a Hound and dad was a Labra-dor. I’m good natured and love to run around with the other dogs. For a puppy, I’m calm, laid-back and just

take things in stride. Oh, I really love the water! If you have been to Paws Place’s Facebook page, that’s me in the pool. I've been to ball games and adoption events,

but I'm just waiting for the right family.

◄Hi – my name is Holly. I was rescued on Christmas Eve more than a year ago from the highway. I’m a

spayed Hound mix, 2-years-old, and about 50 pounds.

I’m also vaccinated and heartworm negative. I am special because I have one blue eye and one brown. I

like to be in charge of all the toys, food and treats so some

dogs don’t like to play with me. But some do. I’m

working on leash-training. A quiet home with a fenced-in

yard would be ideal for me. I’d like to be able to show how much I would appreciate having someone who really

cares about me. Please give me a chance.

◄Aren't I a handsome fella?

I’m Sunny. I like to play, especially with the other puppies, but I'm rather calm

for someone my age and size (8 months – 50 pounds). Paws Place took me to a ball game the other night and I got a lot of attention. I loved

the kids and the kids loved me. I ride well in the car, it lulls me to sleep. A home with cats or other small animals probably wouldn't work for me. I'm up to date on all of my shots, am neutered and house-trained. I'm just waiting

for the right family to come and scoop me up!

◄My name is Miley. I weigh 45 pounds and am 1-year-old. My previous

owner abandoned me. No one understands why be-cause I am house-trained,

up to date on shots and heartworm negative. I

really like to get out and have a good run, so a

fenced-in yard would be great (but please don't

leave me unattended). I play well with other dogs, but I don't like to share my

food. I enjoy going for walks and walk nicely on a

leash! Please come by and visit me and consider adding me to your family.

◄My name is Laurel and I was rescued

from a hoarder. (He had lots of

dogs in one place). I’m a Jack Russell/

Corgi and Chihuahua mix. The vet thinks that I’m about

5-years-old and weigh about 23 pounds. They treat me real nice here. When I first arrived I was diagnosed with heartworms. Paws Place arranged for treatment and I have done very well. I would really like to have a chance to live in a real home, probably

with someone who has another small, gentle dog to show me the ropes. A quiet home would be nice as well. Do you think

you could give me a try??

Page 30: PawPrints Magazine September 2012

My name is Max and I’m a Boston Terrier teen-

ager. I love tummy rubs and snuggles (the Bos-ton Terrier version of hugs) from my foster family. I’m great with kids, tolerant of other dogs, if not downright

playful, and a true joy to be around. I am fantas-

tic with children and quite a little clown. I like

to play in water or the rain, I like to chew on

bones, and I love to tun-nel under my blanket.

My hearing is great and I’m so alert that when you try to take my picture, I always pop out from under the blanket. This trait, and how well I interact with kids, shows everyone that I’ll be a great com-panion who is protective and loving. I am great on a leash

and love to go for walks. I can be socially awkward (a teen) with other dogs and haven't quite learned how to

engage them in play without scaring them. I am searching for a structured home with Boston Terrier parents who love my breed’s personality traits. Are you that someone spe-

cial? Please contact Coastal Carolina Boston Terrier Res-cue at [email protected] or call 252-633-0987. You may

also visit us online at www.ccbtr.org.

I am sponsored by www.jeetkunedog.com.

My name is Wheelie, and I’m a Walker Hound mix

who arrived at Paws Place in early 2007. I had been shot and they were concerned that I would

need to have my leg am-putated. But with lots of TLC and medicine, they saved my leg. I’m fully

recovered, but I still have some buckshot in my hind leg. That’s probably why I appreciate being able to run so much. I love run-ning with the wind in my

face. The vet thinks I was probably born in early 2006 – that would make me about 6-years-old. I weigh about 65

pounds. I get along real well with other dogs and love to run and play with them. Don’t know about cats because I have-n’t been around them. Although I like Paws Place and all of the volunteers (they give me hot dogs!), I really would like to have a chance to be in a real home – I can even share with another dog! Would you be willing to give me that chance? I’ve been here a long time now and I just don’t understand why. You can come out to see me any day because Paws Place is open every day from 9am to Noon. For adoption

information or driving directions, please call 910-845-7297.

I am sponsored by Marybeth and Elliott Tepper in loving memory of Tripp (who was adopted from Paw’s Place.)

We love him so much!

Pender County Animal Shelter

3280 New Savannah Rd., Burgaw, NC Pendercountyanimalshelter.petfinder.com

▲Kittens are in plentiful supply at your local Animal Control, and we two are located right here in Pender County! We are Duncan and Donut (A004884, A004885), two orange Tabby brothers, and we have only been on this planet for 5-weeks!

Our mother was not spayed, and our owner did not want kittens, so off to Animal Control we came. Our sister is on this page, too. Her name is Summer. We love to be held and are so sweet! Adopt one or both of us and save a life!

►I’m a well-trained girl with a sad story to tell. You see, I was once

part of a loving home, but my owner devel-oped dementia and could no longer take care of me. There

were no other relatives around and no one

even knows my name! Right now, I’m known as Darling (A004855)

because I’m a true sweetheart who gets along with other dogs and all people. They think I’m a Doberman

mix and I’m current on my rabies vaccination. You can give me a new name and a brand new life. Let’s go!

►Puppy happiness is in your future if you adopt me!

You know what puppy happiness is, don’t you?

It’s that feeling you get when you hold an adorable

puppy, smell their sweet breath and receive lots of

kisses! My name is Emily (A004587) and I’m a

6-month-old darling who was found all alone on the

street. I am perpetually happy and smiling and I love everyone! I’ll make

your life complete so hurry!

◄Holding me in your hand is like holding a delicate bird - I’m so tiny and fragile, it just makes your heart melt! I’m Summer (A004886), a 5-week-old Tortoiseshell girl with blue eyes and a loving personality. The two orange kittens on this page are my brothers. We were an unplanned litter and we’re now hop-ing we’ll find loving fami-lies. I am so precious! Won’t you allow me to grow up with you?

►I’m a sweetheart who needs some help from

you. My name is Stevie Wonder Cat

(A004468) and I’m as loving as can be. I was

found walking by the side of the road and have

been at the shelter since July 19. I am partially

blind (my eyes are a little cloudy), but I get around

just fine and it doesn’t affect my personality - I love people and enjoy being held. I get along fine with other cats, too. A great cat like me deserves a family! How about yours?

►I don’t have the papers to prove it, but I

sure do look like a pure-bred Yellow Labrador

Retriever! My name is River (A004895) and I’m

a 3 to 4-year-old boy who was made for family life.

I have a laid-back, re-laxed personality and I never meet a stranger. I’d be so much fun on

boat trips or other excur-sions! I was found as a stray and hope to soon

be part of a family.

Page 32: PawPrints Magazine September 2012

Hi there! My name is Radar and I’m a very handsome Lemon Walker Hound. I’ve been living at Sampson County Animal Control for a while now and I’m getting a little wor-

ried. We’re on limited time at the shelter and I’m anxious to walk out the door with my new family! I am only 1-year-old so there is lots of fun and happiness ahead of us! I really

enjoy playing outside so a house with a fenced-in yard would be great! We could also go on outings to the park, beach, or lake. I’ll never turn down the chance for a stroll with you or some delicious treats. Here’s even more good news: my neuter surgery and parvo vaccination is included in my adoption fee. Please call 910-592-8493 for adoption

information. Tell them you saw me in PawPrints!

I am sponsored by Christie Halligan. Thank you!

◄I’m looking at you with my sweet puppy-dog eyes! How can you resist me? My name is Juli and I just arrived at the shelter with my brother, Wesley. He’s pictured on this page as well. I’m a very pretty girl with my black and tan markings. I’m already spayed and up to date on puppy shots. I’m a fun, playful, Boxer/Lab mix baby, about 12-weeks-old. Wouldn’t you love to share your life with a great girl like me? Let’s go home!

◄We are two sisters

named Leigh and Emily. We look so alike that it is hard

to tell us apart! In

addition to our identical

ebony-colored fur, we are both

fluffy, cute, playful and highly affectionate. Wouldn’t it be fun to take us both home? Of course we can be

separated - if you can choose just one! We are both spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. We are around

8-weeks-old. Please say you’ll come visit us!

►I’m Koko! They tell me I’m a Chocolate Lab

mix boy, about 1-year-old. I arrived at the shel-

ter with my brother, Hunter. You can see his

photo on page 40. We can be adopted sepa-rately or together, but

wherever we go we need room to play and run off some of our energy. I’m a very sweet, energetic

and happy fellow and I’d be a wonderful addition

to a family. Come on out and get to know me! I’d love to give you a kiss.

►I’m a little sweetheart named Wesley! Have you been looking for a playful,

happy and loveable puppy? You’re in luck

because I’m up for adop-tion! So is my sister, Juli.

She’s pictured at the top of this page. I’m about 12-

weeks-old and am already neutered and vaccinated. I

love to play, eat treats, cuddle with humans and take naps. I’m a Boxer/Lab mix with a heart of

gold. Do yourself a favor and adopt me today!

►I’m Pluto, an extremely handsome Lemon Walker Hound

boy, and I’ve been at the shelter since I was a

puppy. I just can’t under-stand why! I’m a terrific fellow, ask anybody. I’m 1-year-old and love to be

hugged and kissed. I get along with everyone I meet - men, women and children - and I play well with other dogs. When will I have the chance to

belong to a family? Lemon Walker Hounds are great dogs! Come see that for yourself at the shelter.

►Hi there! My name is Jellybean and I’m a young Calico girl

who is fast becoming a favorite around

here! Do you wonder why? Well, it’s

because I have such a winning personality.

I love to be petted, am relaxed and laid-back, and I give lots

of love to the humans around me. My for-mer owners were heartbroken when they had to leave

me behind due to a move. I’m also spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained.

Looking for a dog who will love you with all her heart?

Adopt me! My name is Sunshine (A057205) and

I’m an adorable girl, as gentle and sweet as a lamb. I was found as a

stray and am quite bewil-dered by life at the shelter.

When you come visit, please take me in the play-room so we can cuddle. I dearly love when humans

give me attention and praise - my tail just wags

and wags. They tell me I’m a 4-year-old mixed-breed,

petite in size. I’d be perfect for condo or apartment living and snuggling on the couch. I love to be kissed and I walk well on a leash. There’s not a mean bone in my body, I just love everyone. I have the most beautiful brown eyes; they will melt your heart. Come see me in person, please. For

◄My name is Tippy and I am a Tortoiseshell with an orange

-tipped tail, thus my name.

I am spayed and have had all my shots. I was born ap-proximately

May 15, 2011. I am a bit shy,

but I get along great with other cats, and I also lived with a big dog before he passed away. I love to be petted by humans! If you’d like to meet me and hopefully make me a member of

your family, call my SOAR foster mom at 910-278-4437.

◄I’m George! I was found abandoned in a parked car and was born proba-bly the last

week in September

2010. In my SOAR foster

home, I have been raised with other cats and kittens and a large dog. My sweet nature and playfulness have made me much loved. I am negative for all feline diseases, have had all my shots and am neutered. Some cat lover who needs a great kitten should call my SOAR foster mom at

910-278-4437 quickly!

▲Hello, friends! My name is Panzur and I’m a baby girl, just 5-months-old. I’ll make an excellent companion

because I was fostered and bottlefed. I’m extra-accustomed to being held and cuddled by humans. I’m also in great health and am comfortable living with other

cats and even two dogs! Come meet me!

▲My name is Stripes and I’m a very handsome Tabby boy! At just 2-years-old, I’m a friendly, social fellow who adores

being with humans and my cat roommates. I have a playful personality and enjoy instigating mischief with my kitty

friends, but it’s all in good fun and I am loved by all. I’m already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Let’s go!

►Looking for a sweetheart? I think I may be

the one for you! As you can see from my photo, I’m comfortable hanging out in the house with my humans, watching TV

and giving you lots of kisses. I would also enjoy going on walks and being your best friend! My name is Abbie and I’m a 1-year-old mixed breed who is spayed and vaccinated. I am in a foster home right now and

I’m living with other dogs. I’m good with cats and am also house-trained. I’m so smart and loveable - adopt me!

►I’m a gorgeous black and white girl with striking

golden eyes. Why is a beauty like me homeless? My name is Lucy and I’m just 1-year-old. I am very friendly and loveable and really enjoy being petted

and cuddled by humans. I also get along with my fellow felines, so if you

have a kitty or two already at home, I bet we would get along just fine! As for my

health, the veterinarian has given me a clean bill and I

am already spayed, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Come on out to SOAR and meet me, please!

Wheee, wanna play with me? My name is Lola and I’m a 4-year-old Shepherd/Lab mix. I am a sweet-loving gal

and I generally get along well with larger,

docile male dogs. I am in a wonderful foster home with Sunburst

Foundation, but I really want a home of my

own. I love to run and play in the yard and

snuggle inside with my humans. I am house-trained, crate-trained,

up to date on vaccines and on heartworm prevention. I do take glucosamine for an old cruciate ligament tear but, as you can see, I get around just fine! When you adopt me, I will come to you with a microchip and Smart ID tag from Best Friends. Please contact Sunburst Foundation for a

“Meet and Greet” with me. Call 910-622-0011 or visit www.sunburstfoundationofwilmington.org and fill out an

I am sponsored by Hank and Grace Harrington. Thank you!

My name is Clarence and I was rescued from Animal Control with four

other kittens. When I first came home to my foster mom, my body was emaciated, my belly was filled with

worms and I had a very bad cold. After just a short time with some medicine, good chow and lots of love I have emerged happy and

healthy. I have a coat of fur that is so soft it feels like velvet and I love to be petted and

kissed. When I’m sleepy I will curl up in your lap and I also like being held, too. I love to play and would be happiest

in a home with another kitten or cat. I’m just 14-weeks-old and already neutered, vaccinated and litterbox-trained. Please adopt me! You can find out more by calling Cat

◄I’m Rosie! I’m a 35 pound Pug/Chow mix and, at just 4-years-

once a shy boy but once my medical issues were taken care of (which in-cluded heartworm disease and de-

cayed teeth) I have become a human’s “best friend”! I’m a docile, gentle boy who gets along well with other dogs, even the

ones who want to be boss. I love to run and play in the yard and I’m not at all pushy. I’m around 2-years-old and it’s believed that I’m a Golden/Chow mix. My name is Beauty and I am a little black Lab

who weighs only around 25 to 30 pounds so I would be great in an apartment. I am SU-PER SMART, too. I already know sit, lay down, shake and can almost do rollover. I

absolutely love children, I am house-trained and I

walk really well on a gentle leader. I am spayed, heartworm

negative and up to date on my shots. I am ea-

ger to please, very eas-ily corrected and TREAT MOTIVATED, too! I don't prefer cats and do ok with some dogs so it would be easier if I was an only dog. I was once pampered in

my previous home, but they could no longer keep me. I can be shy around men especially since I have been

homeless a few months and most of the volunteers and staff are women. I am an overlooked gem, just a plain little black dog who needs someone to love her.

If you would like to know more info about me, call Adopt-An-ANGEL at 910-392-0557.

My name is Scrappy and I am a very friendly and loving little girl. I weigh 40 pounds

so I am a mid-sized Lab. I do wonder-ful with other dogs and cats. I even

lived with a couple cats before. I do

love my people and I can bark a lot

when they first get home, so an apart-ment with thin walls

would not be good for me. I also can jump or climb a chain link fence so I will need a privacy fence. When I first came in, I was a mess but the shelter has really worked hard to get me looking healthy and gorgeous like I am now. I have really blossomed under their

care! I am house-trained, too. I am a gentle, sweet girl who would love a home to call my own. I have

been homeless since January when my owners were evicted from our home. Won’t you adopt me and give me the best home I have ever had? The shelter says I really deserve it. For more info on me or the adoption

process, call 910-392-0557.

Miss Avis Davis, 1990-2005

Hello, PawPrints readers! My

name is Hunter and I’m a Yellow Lab mix boy, just

1-year-old. I arrived at the

shelter with my brother, Koko.

He’s a Chocolate Lab mix and he can be seen on

page 33. We two can be adopted

separately or together, but

wherever we go we need room to run and play. A fenced-in yard

would be super! I’m a very smart boy who listens when you speak - I learn quickly! I’m also sweet, play-ful, friendly and would be a wonderful addition to your family. As for my health, I’m already neutered, vacci-

nated and on heartworm prevention. I hope you’ll take the time to come visit me at the shelter. You’ll find a

wonderful boy waiting for you! Call 910-259-7022 and any questions you have will be answered.

If you adopt me, you’ll be so

lucky! I’m the perfect family

companion! My name is Grace and I’m a Re-

triever/Shepherd mix, about 5 or 6-years-old. I’m a lovely girl with a silky coat and a laid-back per-sonality. I’ll sit

on command for treats and am house-trained

and leash-trained. I love people - especially children! Pender County Humane Society found me at Animal Control after my owner died. All I need now to make my life

complete is another family to love. I’m already spayed, vaccinated and on heartworm prevention.

The great thing about adopting an adult dog like me is that I am trained, have manners and you can start enjoying me immediately! If you’re the one I’ve been

looking for, please call Pender County Humane Society at 910-259-7022.

Hello there, my name is Oskar and I am an American Stafford-shire Terrier. I am a youngster and am looking for a family that

would love to spend lots of time with me… actually, a fam-ily that will keep up with me. I was turned over by my owner and here I am at the rescue. I

enjoy running and have lots and lots of love to give. How-ever, I need some help at this

Well, I am great with kids and will

SAMPSON COUNTY ANIMAL CONTROL

CAPE FEAR RESCUE LEAGUE

My name is Anabella (Bella for short). I'm approximately 4-years-

old, current on vaccinations, spayed, heartworm free and crate-

trained. I was taken to a rural Animal Control where my chances were not very promising. Thank-fully, a nice lady came and de-

cided to foster me. I'm a very laid back sort of dog who loves to give

sloppy kisses and I also have a great love of children and other

dogs. My foster mom has promised me that I will never go in to a home that will keep me outside to sleep in a dog-

house or tied to a tree. She also promised that I’ll never be forced to hunt! If you would like to meet me, please give

Pat a call at 910-640-1505. I'll be waiting to see you!

weight at just 15 pounds. I am spayed, heartworm nega-tive, up to date on all vaccina-tions, and house AND crate-

PAWSITIVE PARTNERS PRISON PROGRAM

Don’t I look so sweet and inno-cent? Well, don’t let the photo

fool you, I’m a real go-getter and fun-loving Hound/Terrier mix. Only a year or two old, I can

keep up with the best of them! I’ve finished three months of training and am in graduate

school with the Pawsitive Part-ners Prison Program. I’m so

sharp it’s hard for these humans to keep up with me! My name is Dasher and you can make an

appointment for a game of “Are You Smarter Than a Four Legger” or just meet me…

whatever you prefer. Either way I’ll be ready for a home soon. I have my crate packed with all my belongings, just

waiting for your call! To adopt me, call 910-297-1338, email [email protected] or visit www.montyshome.org.

ONSLOW COUNTY ANIMAL SHELTER

Gypsy (A059938)

is my name and being with a family is my game!

I’m an outgoing, loveable girl who

ended up in the shelter

because I became lost. My mates here are great but they sure are a noisy lot. I’m a 7-month-old Jack Russell and

Beagle mix. I’m a very special companion who just wants to lay at your feet and adore the person you are. I do love to romp around outside which is how I became lost, and I love to chase after sticks and fetch things for you. I will

make you laugh but never cry! Come by the Onslow County Animal Shelter during their hours of operation and check out my list of special qualities. I’m current on vacci-nations and will be spayed before coming home with you. I’m as faithful as they come! The shelter is located at 244 Georgetown Road in Jacksonville and you may call 910-

455-0182 for more information. See you soon!

OPERATION TOPCAT

My name is Oscar and I was rescued along with several other cats from be-hind a local restau-

rant when the owner called animal control.

Once caught and brought to be neu-

tered, my foster mom realized I am a really

sweet fellow who was just a bit scared. Who wouldn't be when you are dumped somewhere and lose the only

home you have known? I don’t mind being petted and once we get to know each other, I will roll over to get my

belly rubbed. I like to play and sit in the sun. I’m an ener-getic, young male about 2-years-old. I love to investigate whatever is happening around the house. I will climb a perch or sleep in a soft cushy bed, often begging for at-

tention and petting. I am quick and very playful, probably too quick for small children as I sometimes play a little

rough. My foster mom says that I’m such a neat outgoing cat! I deserve a human who understands my ways and will give me a safe and loving home. I promise to bring

sunshine to your life! To find out more information about me or to inquire about the adoption process, please send

an email to [email protected] or call 910-200-0612.

A SHELTER FRIEND

I am GIGI, a regal Rhodesian Ridgeback mix. I love kids, and

cats! I am a laid-back girl content to hang around with you and su-pervise whatever you do with the noble looks and characteristics of a Ridgeback. I am spayed, vacci-

nated and heartworm negative. When we meet, I will greet you

with kisses to make sure you see my sweet nature. I am not crazy

about sharing my loved one with other dogs, although if you have patience and introduce us properly; I do get along with other dogs. Please call Edna at 910-866-4289 or visit us at AShelterFriend.org and www.facebook.com/ashelterfriend.

You are looking at one fabulous

boy! I’m a Chinese Shar Pei

named Blake (A056139) and I

am going to make the person or

family who adopts me very happy! I was

found as a stray but I’m very well-trained. I will sit,

stay and lay down on com-mand. I might even know ‘roll

over’ as it looked like I was about to do it at one point during my photo

shoot. If it’s something I’ve forgotten, I’m sure I’ll pick it right back up again as I’m a very smart boy. I am just

4-years-old and I LOVE belly rubs. I’ll lay down at your feet contentedly while you go about your business and I’ll play whenever you’re ready. I’m friendly to everyone and enjoy eating treats. In my photo you can see me patiently waiting for one. Everyone at the shelter has fallen in love

with me - and you will, too! If you need directions or hours, call Brunswick County Animal Control at 910-754-

8204. You’ll be so happy you came out to meet me!

I am sponsored by Willetts Horse Farm, Bolivia NC in loving memory of Maya.

I’m an absolutely gorgeous, purebred Siberian Husky and I’m sitting at Animal Control! Will you be the one who brings

me home? My name is Max (A057738)

and I’m a 2-year-old boy with a playful,

energetic and happy spirit. I just want to belong to a family!

While in the playroom I kept looking out the window as though I was hoping to see

someone coming for me. Unfortunately,

my former family could no longer keep me, so I’m ready to fall in love with some new humans! I can sit on command and I love playing with tennis balls. A fenced-in yard at my

new house would be great! We can play outside, then head indoors when we’re tired. I’d love to lay next to you

and get rubbed. I have gorgeous blue eyes that you’ll never get tired of gazing into. If you’d like to see my full-color photo, please visit www.pawprintsmagazine.com.

And if you’d like to meet me in person, please call Bruns-wick County Animal Control at 910-754-8204. They’ll give

SCHNAUZER RESCUE OF THE CAROLINAS CAROLINA BASSET HOUND RESCUE

Okay, let me state my case…first off, my

name is Base. How did I end up in this place? Surely as a result of mercy and

grace. But who could resist this face? Re-gardless, I’m ready to come over and check

out your place! I love to play and my manners could just use a little fine tuning, but let me wrap things up here at the finishing school and I’ll be ready for my forever home! Ask for me, Base! To make me a member of your family please

call 919-708-4247 or visit our website at www.cbhr.com. Also, we are extremely short on foster homes! If you have ever thought about fostering, contact us for more details.

If you ever wanted a four-

legged shadow, here we are!

We are around 2 years of age. I, Frannie, weigh 12 pounds and Misty weighs

22. We both get along well with other dogs and

are crate-trained. We like to run and play in the yard so a fenced-in yard is best. We are both spayed, up to date on

shots, micro-chipped and heart worm negative. Please visit www.schnauzerrescueofthecarolinas.org and fill out an

application online. Other questions, call 910-264-8300.

CAROLINA POODLE RESCUE

My name is Dolly. In my short life, I had received very little medical

care except for the required shots, yet I was beautifully groomed!

When I was rescued by my foster mom, my weight was 25 pounds and I didn't do anything but lay around. A check by the vet re-

vealed uncontrolled diabetes. My blood glucose level was almost off

the chart! It has come down and we now have it under control. I feel so much better. Lots of healthy food and

exercise is beginning to pay off. What a difference! I am losing weight, feeling and looking so much better. Taking care of my diabetes is really easy and my foster mom can

show you how. If you have a place in your heart and home for me, please contact Carolina Poodle Rescue at 864-489-3559 or visit our website at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org.

SHAR-PEI RESCUE OF VIRGINIA

Hi, I'm Bogey, a sweet, young male Shar-Pei. I'm a friendly, ener-

getic boy and love to play ball. I also love to run, run, run - so a

fenced yard would be best for me. I am friendly with everyone and

other dogs. I would love a home that has kids and/or other dogs to play with because I love to play

with anyone or anything. I got to go camping on Memorial Day

weekend with my foster family. It was SO much fun. I was a great boy travelling, got to stay in a trailer with two other dogs, and even met some other Shar-Pei that I got to play

with. To learn more about me or fill out an application, check out my profile at www.sharpeirescueofva.org. Call 609-494-0020 or email [email protected] for

more information. Hope to see you soon!

COASTAL CAROLINA BOSTON TERRIER RESCUE

My name is Clyde and I’m a friendly and loving, 26 pound Boston Terrier boy. I'm not shy; in fact, I've never met a human or dog that I don't want to befriend. I am crate and house-trained and I like to run the BT500 in the backyard! I am waiting on that special lov-ing forever home where I can be the puppy that I never had the chance to be. For more info, please contact CCBTR at [email protected] or call 252-633-0987. You may also visit us online at www.ccbtr.org.

SOUTHEAST GERMAN SHEPHERD RESCUE

I’m Kaya and I’m 11-months-old. I am petite and not ex-

pected to be over 50 pounds full grown. I am perfect for

the Shepherd lover who doesn't want an extremely

large dog. I love to play ball and will prance around the yard carrying a soccer ball

larger than my own head. I love to play with other dogs. With my energy, structure and body, I would also make a

great agility dog. I do great with kids and am crate-trained. Do I sound like a perfect addition to your home? Please

heart, and I am very friendly and playful.

I am neutered, heartworm negative

and have all my vaccinations. I weigh approxi-

mately 50 to 60 pounds or so. I am a goofy boy with a really unique woof (likes to bay). I am very gentle and no one has ever seen any aggression from me at all. I am

just a typical Hound dog….great with dogs, kids and cats. I remind my foster family of Droopy (you know, from the

cartoon). If you would like to know more information about me or would like to inquire about the adoption process,

I’m the sweetest little fellow on four legs. Just check out my photo - I can sit on command like no-body’s business! Haven’t you been

looking for an intelli-gent, handsome fel-

low to enter your life? At just 5-years-old, I’m a 39 pound, tri-

color Beagle mix who is already neutered, vaccinated and on heartworm preven-tion. I’m good with

children and am house-trained, crate-trained and I stay in a fenced area with no problems. I used to have a home,

but they simply had no time for a doggie companion. What about you? Would you like to add some joy to your life by adopting me? Call the New Hanover Humane Society at

910-763-6692 and let’s get together!

I am sponsored by Levi Donovan. Please think about adopting.

Are you looking for a companion to take on outings to the beach or park? Pick me! I’m Dixie and I love doing stuff like that! I’m a playful girl, but I still know my commands. In fact, I’m sitting on command in my photo. (Just between you and me, I was waiting for them to throw me a tennis ball!) I’m a young girl, 4-years of age, and I’m a total sweetheart. There’s not a mean bone in my body. I’m house-trained, love affection and can’t get enough hugs or kisses. I’m a Terrier mix who is great with children and other dogs (but no cats, please.) I hope after reading this that you can see I’d be an excellent companion, ready-made to move on in with you and start making happy memories! For adoption information, please call SOAR at 910-457-6340. They’ll be happy to give you driv-

ing directions so that you can hop in the car and come meet me!
