Vision To be an internationally renowned business innovation and incubation model

Goal To inspire and assist Kenyatta University Students, Staff and other Kenyans to be active participants in the national socio-economic transformation through employment and wealth creation

The Chandaria BIIC Concept at Kenyatta

UniversityThe Kenya Vision 2030 calls on Kenyans to be active participants in job creation for socio-economic development and national transformation. This can only be achieved through efficient and effective management of scientific discoveries and technical advances, which provide Kenya with unparalleled opportunities for economic growth and development. The upsurge in scientific and technological knowledge can only provide economic and social benefits when it is effectively exploited to lead to innovation. Innovation has thus been identified as a key driver of long term economic growth, the primary basis for competitiveness in world markets and part of the response to many societal challenges (unemployment, sustainable development, etc).

The “university incubation” concept is a popular practice among World Class Universities.

The Vice-Chancellor, informed by best practices from other World Class Universities, thought of strategy that would ensure our students open up to the idea of start-up companies. She wanted students to leave Kenyatta University not only with degrees but with knowledge of how they can create wealth not just for themselves but also for their families and to improve their quality of life.

“The key goal is to see students not only succeed in their studies but also become good entrepreneurs

who can improve their well-being and the quality of life of their families”

Prof. Olive Mugenda, PhD, CBS,Vice Chancellor, Kenyatta University.

“Kenya’s biggest strength is its manpower. The trustees of the Chandaria Foundation felt that

they could play a major role in serving the outgoing university students to make them businessmen/

businesswomen of tomorrow”Dr. Manu Chandaria, OBE, EBS,

Chairman, Chandaria Foundation
