My husband left me and went to London withanother woman for 5 years! I tried to bring himback, I visited priests and healers for help butfailed.Ligan and Miss Jessica looked through themirror and assured me that he’ll call within 4days, and I’ll pick him at the airport. He reallyphoned and he’s return after 5 years! He accurately read my fortune (for R200 con-sultation fee) & told me all my problems withoutme mentioning a word. He even used a mirror

to show me real-faces of people who were trying to pull me down. Liganand Miss Jessica performed special-prayers for me, cleansed me frombadluck & also gave me powerful lovecrystals plus a special-ring to fix myfinancial problems. Four (4) days after prayers my husband was backhome, asking for forgiveness. I am very happy, we recently reconciled!Like me, all clients I have been referring to him always got GUARANTEEDRESULTS in a few days.

Ward 8 DA Councillor Gustav Rautenbachsays this intersection has proven to be a popu-lar stop for buses and taxis, but the fact thattherewasnoofficial stophascausedmajor traf-fic problems.“There was no place for a bus or taxi to pull

off the street and park for commuters to get onandoff, so theystopped in thebusystreet - caus-ing traffic to come to a standstill. Thiswas alsovery dangerous for the large number of schol-ars and domestic workers who use this as anassembly point to wait for buses and taxis.”Work on the bus embayment started last

week and should be completed within fourweeks.“Not only will this embayment ensure the

safety of motorists and commuters but theproject has also created jobs for four people,”said Rautenbach.“All four of the workers are fromwithin the

community, and two are women. We alwaysaim to employ people from the community inprojects such as these. It is also very importantto me to empower women.”The estimated cost of the construction of the

bus bay is R120 000.

THANKS to three very brave Samaritans whocompleted the Comrades Marathon the pastweekendandmanaged to raise aboutR13 000 asa result, little Gracen Wallace from Lorraine-might be able to walk one of these days.

“Gracey”, as she is lovingly calledbyherpar-ents, is theonlyperson inSouthAfricaandoneof only 15 people in the world who suffer fromthe very rare Chromosome17p13.3 syndrome.

At first glance, it is hard to believe that theenergetic two-year-old girl with the wide blueeyes can neitherwalk nor talk. However, whenyou look closely and see the braces clampedaround her tiny legs and listen to her makingwhimpering baby sounds, you start to realisethat she is indeed very sick.

Chromosome17p13.3 is a syndrome inwhichthere is an extra chromosome on chromosome17. It affects a person’s brain and muscles andleads to very slow development.

“At themoment her brain is like that of a six-month old baby, instead of a toddler who turnsthree in just four months,” says Leandri Wal-lace, Gracen’s mother.

“The doctors told us that her brainwaves areslower and since the syndrome also affects hermuscles,shecannotwalkorcrawlandhasregu-lar seizures.

She recently had to be rushed to hospital ona ventilator because the seizures had cut off all

her oxygen,” she added.Gracen also struggles to eat and sleep.“She does not sleep at all during the day.

There are times when you can see that she isvery tired, but it’s not possible for her to justfall asleep.”When Gracen was diagnosed just after birth,

her parents had a difficult time accepting thediagnosis. “It hit us really hard. But eventhough our situation is very challenging, wehave learned to accept it,” says Brent Wallace,Gracen’s father.“She is all we have and all we know and in

spiteofherlimitationscausedbyhercondition, she loves being outside, listening tomusic andplaying in water,” says her mother.

Through her fighting spirit Gracen has alsomanagedtotouchthelivesofothers.Alocalvet-erinarian,DrHildaMeyer,who is also a familyfriend, along with two others, Chanelle RoodandElnastienKotze, were inspiredbyGracen’sstoryandcompleted the 89kmComradesMara-thon that took place on Sunday to help her par-ents raise funds.

“We are absolutely ecstatic about the out-come of the fundraiser andwe are very blessedto now have enough money for a walker.

“Hilda decided to help us as she knows thestrain that Gracey’s illness is taking on us fi-nancially. I recently startedworking half-daysto that I could take care of my daughter,” sheadded.

Anyonewho is interested inhelping the fam-ily raise funds for Gracen can e-mail LeandriWallace on [email protected].

So I said to myselfif they can do this in America, surelywe can do it in South Africa as well.”After approachinghis SouthAfricansoftware provider and reading onlinereviews, Clarke decided to get with theprogram on an international level.“It all started with research intowhat was available. First I approachedthe South African software providerthat we deal with but they could nothelp, so I started looking at what wasavailable elsewhere.“This led to a shortlist of three inter-

nationalprogramsandafterreadingallthe online reviews, we chose the pack-age that we currently use, known asShedul,” he explained.Liesl van Rooyen, a client, said shefinds the new online system extremelyeasy, user friendly and quick. “I have

been doing my hair at Simon ClarkHairdressing since 2004 and since thenew booking system was available, itmade everything somuchmore simpleand easy,” van Rooyen said. For more information, visit https://simonclarkhairdressing.wordpress.com/.

A NON-PROFIT organisation thatwants to empower young people inPortElizabeth, has launchedtheEar-ly Bird community project to moti-vate pupils in the northern suburbs.

The Christelike MaatskaplikeRaad (CMR) recently launched theprogramme to raise awarenessamong families, community mem-bers and the Department of Educa-tion about theneedof early interven-tion relating to the youth. The organisation chose Bertram

Senior Secondary School in thenorthern suburbs as the first schoolto benefit from the programme.Life orientation periodswere used

during this past month to present-ment the programme. The youth pro-gramme was held last month duringthe lifeorientationperiodatBertramSenior Secondary School. After themonth-long programmea

celebration day was held on May 27,to celebrate how far they have comeand to receive feedback from theschool. As a non-profit organisation, CMR

renders a complete social service toall communities in order to empowerthem socially, emotionally and eco-nomically, irrespective of race, age, gender or association. Their expecta-tion is to rebuild and restore themor-al values within the community.CMR has been successfully in-

volved in supporting various com-munities with aid through preventa-tive intervention programmes.Theirmain focus is to recognise by

means of early intervention pro-grammes, the most prevalent prob-

lems in the northern areas’ schools, such as substance abuse and gang ac-tivity.Social worker and member of the

CMR, Loretta Adams, said, “As oneof the socialworkerswho are respon-sible for the northern areas, we havestarted with programmes targetingpupils in all grades.“In order not to disturb the class

schedules, we had the programmesduring their life orientation periodsseeing that its aim is to raise aware-ness of the current situation in thecommunity.“The programmes have had a posi-

tive outcome. Pupils have been in-formedabout theeffects aswell as theconsequences of drug use and gangviolence.”

Adams added that part of the con-tent of their recent programme wasto inform the youth about the dan-gers of cigarettes, hookah pipes andother substances that often containpoisons similar to those found in do-mestic cleaning products, rat and in-sect poison, nail polish remover, brake fluid, benzene, moth balls andlighter gas.Adams said that they are planning

to continue this initiative in the com-munity.“At CMR, we specialise in serving

and protecting while offering a pro-fessional service to our children andfamilies at risk. We believe in pre-ventative services before the child isexposed to the Children’s Act andmoves into the system,” Adams said.

ASif a racearound the confined streetsof Monte Carlo isn’t a big enough chal-lenge, the rain that came down madesure that it was emphatically more de-manding.

Daniel Ricciardo started theMonacoGP from his first career pole positionand would’ve felt he had half the jobdone. As the race got underway behindthe safety-car there was no perilousside-by-siderunning into turnonewithNico Rosberg’s Mercedes or the fear ofpushing slightly over the limit into abarrier. When racing did get underway Ric-

ciardo quickly carved out a ten secondlead to second placed RosbergwithHa-milton close behind in third. As the circuit started to dry Ricciar-

do dived into the pitlane for a set of in-termediate tyres but the Mercedes ofLewis Hamilton stayed out. It was thisstint, on the full wet tyre, that won Le-wis Hamilton the Monaco Grand Prix. But forHamilton to take his first vic-

tory of the season, a lot of things hadto gohisway. First championship lead-er and teammate Nico Rosberg had tomoveoverandlethimbyandthismoverevealed some of Rosberg’s character.Regardless of his pace, as the champi-onship leader, therecouldn’thavebeen

an argument against Rosberg if hedidn’t move out of the way for his big-gest rival. By giving way to Hamiltonhe showed himself to be a team man.Still victory seemeda long shot away

as Ricciardo closed right onto the backof Hamilton on his quicker intermedi-ate tyres. Each driver would have tomake one more stop for slick tyres. However, as the Australian dived intothe pits for dry tyres, a communicationerror resulted in the team not being-ready for him. A thirteen-second pit-stop for Ricciardo meant Hamiltonsqueezed into the lead of the race.Although demoralized, Ricciardo re-

fused togiveupandhoundedHamiltonfor as long as possible. Nevertheless, theAustralianwasunable to take backthe leadof theraceandfinishedsecond. Not too far behind Force India’s Ser-

gioPerez drove a stellar race to hold offthe Ferrari of Sebastian Vettel forthird.Ferrari’sMonacoexperiencewasan

unforgettable one as Kimi Raikkonenretired early on after touching the bar-rier in the hairpin and getting stuck onhis own front-wing.Fernando Alonso showed his class

with a fine fifth place finish forMcLar-en on their 50th anniversary. The opportunistic Nico Hulkenberg

snatched sixth place from Nico Ros-berg into the final corneron the last lapof the race. Rosberg, runningwith sus-pected glazed brakes, finished seventhaheadofCarlosSainz in eighth, JensonButtoninninth,andtheWilliamsofFe-lipe Massa in tenth. The race was interrupted by several

virtual safety carperiodsasdrivers fellvictim to the difficult conditions andnotoriously tight circuit. Renault’s Jol-yon Palmer crashed in the start/finishstraightwhileToroRosso’sDaniilKvy-at took out teammate Kevin Magnuss-en.MaxVerstappenwaswell onhisway

to recovering from a pitlane start butstuck his Red Bull into the barrier onlap 34. To add insult to a serious lackofpaceMarcusEricssonattemptedabi-zarremoveonhisSauberteammateFe-lipeNasr into the final corner that end-ed in a double retirement for the team. Some stars had to align for Hamil-

ton’s first win of the 2016 season. Butit was his masterfully controlled stintonadryingtrackwithwornwet-weath-er tyres that sealed the deal.A car as dominant as the 2016 Mer-

cedes often disguises a driver’s skill. But on this day not even this couldovershadow Hamilton’s near impecca-ble feel and talent for driving anF1 car.

Hamilton conquers rain inMonacoGP

BEFOREanythingelse let’spaytributeto the truly moving Comrades Mara-thon battle between two women – win-ner Charné Bosman and the leader formost of this intense duel, CarolineWostmann, in this year’s “Down Run”from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.Drama galore as woman’s winner

Charné (6hr 25min 55sec) slowly butsurely hauled in Caroline (6hr 30min44sec) who had led for most of the un-forgiving race. This, of course, tooknothing away from North-West Prov-ince’s overall winner David Gatebe’srecord-breaking time of 5hr 13min19sec.What a race this women’s dual pro-

duced, keeping one and all on the veryedge of their seats. Long live the Com-rades and those who year after yearflock to the start awaiting the report ofthe starter’s gun.A leap now from straight forward

running to a sport that demands a spe-cialkindofbodily speed, namelyrugbyfootball. By the time you read this youwill either be chuckling or spittingblood. It’s always this way come Testrugby team announcements. You be-long tooneof twocamps: eitheryouare

content and satisfied with most of theplayers chosen to wear the Green andGold. Or you belong to the camp whobelieve the Springbok coach – in thiscase Allister Coetzee – badly needssome kind of therapy.Taking a quick look at what Coetzee

has announced ashis 31-man squad forthe three-Test series against Ireland inJune you should on the whole be wellpleased, though some no doubt will bescratching their heads at “that fool ofa coach” and demanding to know howhecouldpossiblyhaveincludedso-and-so while leaving out his favourite cen-tre, halfback pairing, lock, prop, loose-forward, etc.For the record here are the names:

Garth April, Ruan Combrinck, Dam-ien de Allende, Lood de Jager,Faf deKlerk, Peter-Steph du Toit, Eben Etse-beth,NickGroom,Elton Jantjies, Stev-en Kitshoff, Siya Kolisi, Jaco Kriel,Jesse Kriel, Patrick Lambie, Willie leRoux,FrancoisLouw,FransMalherbe,LionelMapoe,BongiMbonambi, Tend-ai Mtawarira, Lwazi Mvovo, Sikhum-buzo Notshe, Scarra Ntubeni, TrevorNyakane,RudyPaige,JPPietersen,Ju-lian Redelinghuys, Jan Serfontein,

Adrian Strauss, Duane Vermeulen,Warren Whiteley. In all there are nine uncapped play-

ers. Some experts are criticising, un-justly one feels, the likes of 24-year-oldGarthApril’s inclusion.Just18monthsago he was playing club rugby in CapeTown.Anotheryoungsterwhose inclu-sionisbeingviewedwithsometrepida-tionisscrumhalfFafdeKlerk.Buthereagain fewplayershavecomeoninsuchleaps and bounds in recent months.WillEltonJantjiesbeoverhis fingerin-jury?Would Patrick Lambie be pickedahead of him anyway? These are earlydays, give the coach his head.Meanwhile, takinga swift lookatSu-

Picktheright team,MrCoetzee, and Irelandwill be made to sweat blood, big time.If the Boks can produce this standardof play in theTests, Irish eyesmay findit very hard to smile!

FORD released its new Ranger at the end of lastyear, just a few months before the Februarylaunch of one of its biggest competitors, the To-yota Hilux.

And the competition is stiff, with the Rangerbagging many prestige local awards in recentmonths, while the Hilux topped the sales inMarch and April.

Ford’s Ranger and Everest were recently an-nounced as winners in the 2016DriveOut/Weg-Ry 4x4 of the Year Awards. In these awards theNew Ford Ranger was announced Double Cabof the Year with the all-new Ford Everest tak-ing top award for the SUV segment.

This follows close on the heels of the Rangerbeing named one of CarMagazine’s Best Buysfor 2016 winning the best double cab bakkie ti-tle for a fifth year in a row.

The generous size of the Ranger’s cabin, highspecification level, refinement and ride com-fort, as well as the rugged looks and perform-ance,wereallpraisedbytheCareditorial team.

To realise how popular double cabs have be-come as a family vehicle, you just have to goon any school run, rugby or festival day and seehow many double cabs are parked there in themiddle of the concrete jungle.

They’re used on the school run, office run, forholidays and have become the family car formany.

And to accommodate those who like to drivea bakkie, without feeling that they are drivinga bakkie, the new Ranger is laden with comfortand convenience features, not to mention thefact that the test model had an automatic trans-mission – making up for what I believe theworst thing about driving a bakkie is – chang-ing those gears.

And then there is the rear camera – which(in my opinion) should be compulsory for allbakkies used on the school run.

The refreshed line-up of Rangers, which havebeen available in SA since November last year, comprises 33 models including Single Cab, Su-per Cab, Double Cab and Wildtrak.

The new Ranger is produced at Ford’s Silver-ton Assembly Plant in Pretoria and exported to148 markets in Africa and Europe. The Dura-torq TDCi engines are manufactured at theStruandale Engine Plant in PE.

ExteriorThe new design gives the Ranger a bolder,

more sophisticated appearance and the test

model was the double cab variety.Ford have given the new Ranger a bolder,

more modern look. It has a strong new trape-zoidal grille, which connects seamlessly withthe chiselled projector headlamps.

For those who like to drive on the wildsidethe Ranger has 800mm water wading depth and230mm of ground clearance.

InteriorWith the interior Ford has gone to a lot of

trouble with high tech features to give it a car-like feel. These include the Ford Sync 2 info-tainment system with an eight-inch touch-screen (on the higher spec models).

SYNC®2, the latest generation of Ford’s in-car connectivity system, is standard on the newRanger XLT and Wildtrak models. Using natu-ral voice commands, the driver can control thecar’s climate controls, entertainment systemand phone functions.

The new Ranger also features a 240-volt pow-er socket that can be used to power your laptopor cellphone.

The Ranger line-up features Electronic Sta-bility Program (ESP) and ABS as standard fea-tures on all but the Base model (where ABS isan option).

In addition, the top-specification new RangerWildtrak offers a wide range of first-in-classdriver aids including Lane Keeping Alert andLane Keeping Aid, Adaptive Cruise Controlwith Forward Alert, Tyre Pressure MonitoringSystem, Driver Impairment Monitor, as well asFront and Rear Park Assist.

The Wildtrak can be specified in 3.2 TDCi 4x2manual or automatic, or the range-topping 4x4Automatic.

EngineThe Ranger range is powered by the latest-

generation Duratorq TDCi engine and Duratecpetrol engine.

Ford engineers fine-tuned the suspension ofthe new version for additional comfort and bet-ter handling.

One of the other ways of taking the bakkieout of a bakkie for the way it is used these days, the Ranger has an electric power-assisted steer-ing (EPAS) system. This allows for light andmanageable steering for low-speed manoeu-vring – very useful in shopping centre parkinglots and tight spaces on the school run – whileout on the open road and at higher speed the

EPAS ensures precise steering.Ford’s 3.2-litre Duratorq TDCi five-cylinder

diesel engine tops the range. According to Ford, the upgrades include a new exhaust gas recir-culation system that helps improve fuel effi-ciency by up to 18 percent, while still producing147kW of power and 470Nm of torque.

SUV version of the Ranger. But if it has to be a bakkie, then the Ranger

is definitely loaded with high tech, comfort andconvenience features which will make onesoon forget that it is a bakkie and that you willsometimes have to sacrifice tight parking spa-ces.

The 2.2-litre four-cylinder Duratorq TDCihas also been upgraded for better perform-ance and efficiency. The peak outputs of thehigh-power derivative climb from 110kW onthe previous model, to 118kW while torqueis boosted by 10Nm to 385Nm.

An economical mid-power 2.2 DuratorqTDCi engine is also available in certain mod-els, producing 88kW and 285Nm.

The new Ranger is also available withFord’s2.5-litreDuratecpetrolengine,provid-ing 122kW of power and 226Nm of torque.

Depending on model derivative, the newRanger is equipped with a six-speed manualor automatic transmission, or a five-speedmanual on the mid-output diesel and petrolversions.

The prices for theNewRanger double cabs range fromR290 900 to R597 900. The vehicle test driven wasthe 3.2 TDCi XLT 4X4 Automatic which retails forR567 900.

Will I buy one if I could afford it?I still prefer SUV’s - so I would rather go

for the 7-seater Ford Everest - which is the
