• “...And right action is freedomFrom past and future also. For most of us this is the aimNever here to be realized;Who are only undefeatedBecause we have gone on trying..."-T.S. Eliot, The Dry Salvages

“You are not obligated to finish the task; neither are you free to neglect it.”-Pirkei Avot (Teaching of the Sages), Chapter 2,21

• What is the task that I have been trying to contemplate in the world? Why? (What do I want to do to make a difference, to be the change I want to see? Why?)

• How would the world be different if I succeeded?

• What motivates me to keep trying when it would be easier to quit?

• “Today we are faced with a challenge that calls for a shift in our thinking, so that humanity stops threatening its life-support system. We are called to assist the Earth to heal her wounds and in the process heal our own - indeed to embrace the whole of creation in all its diversity, beauty and wonder. Recognizing that sustainable development, democracy and peace are indivisible is an idea whose time has come.”

– Wangari Maathai (1940-2011

• 1. What motivates me? http://vimeo.com/8480171; (2 minutes) http://www.ted.com/talks/dan_pink_on_motivation.html (19 minutes)

2. What interests, talents, skills and classroom knowledge do I have?

• 3. How what I "know" empowers me to have a relevant and engaging service  experience?

• 4. What personal and community need do I want to address? (Maslow's hierarcy of needs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF2c1q_OvdE&feature=related; http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=Iucf76E-R2s )

• 5. Why should I invest time and effort

on this?

Over the next year we'll be asking world leaders to sign up to a global ceasefire on 21 September 2012 - a declaration not to fire unless fired upon. We want this to be the largest reduction in global violence in recorded history, both domestically and internationally - but we can't do it without you. Your commitment to Global Truce will inspire governments to become involved.

Will you help inspire more people to get involved by inviting them to sign our Global Truce pledge now?

http://action.peaceoneday.org/inspire-peace

Can you imagine how it would feel if our legacy to our children was the sound of peace, not the sound of suffering and war?

It's a huge ambition and we need you to help mobilize as many people as we can.

The journey to the Global Truce belongs to us all, and we all have a part to play in ending the violence in homes, schools, communities and between nations.

When individuals come together, we will have Peace One Day.

Take your next step on the journey to peace today, Peace Day 2011 - invite your friends to take the Global Truce pledge:
