Welcome to The Memorial Ground for today’s game against Wessex. Having been without a game for the previous two weeks, it was important for the boys to carry on their earlier momentum of victories over Lanner, Honiton, Hayle and Bude when we went to play Pirates Amateurs last week. Playing at The Mennaye is no easy task as we found out in the first fifteen minutes. ‘The Ams’ started the match with the wind behind them and used it to good effect, dropping the ball behind our backs and following up with their pacy wingers and their pressure paid off as they crossed our line and slotted the conversion. They could have scored more if it wasn’t for some resolute defence. After the initial shock, the boys regrouped and started to keep more possession, working their way into ‘The Ams’ half. The tide changed around the twenty minute mark as we started to play more like we are used to. The players showed a lot of resilience and character to change the flow of the game today after a really tough start. We keep seeing improvement in the guys week after week, which is down to a great attitude, commitment and enthusiasm towards what we are trying to build at this club. Enjoy the game. Dave Levick, Head of Rugby.
As the season now approaches the finishing straight, and all those games in hand are beginning to get played, the league table is now firmly shaping up at both ends. This makes today’s encounter with Wessex hugely important for both sides. We hope all the Wessex committee, coaches, players and supporters have a safe trip back to Exeter tonight.
