Through the Archipelago
These new majolica ceramics are a continuation of the parrot theme. The works were Life, Death and Magic exhibition at the National Gallery of Australia
in 2010, which explored the ancestral art of South East Asia.
It was interesting to me to see how in many of the artworks in the NGA exhibition, the
India and China became localised. Referencing Australian parrots and marsupials, Life, Death and Magic, this new body of work
considers what we have here at ‘the end of the archipelagos’ - Australia.
