1.Tell your friend that you want to be a part of his/her
grieving process and that you are comfortable listening to his/her
pain. 2.Grief takes time to learn to live with and never goes away.
3. Encourage your friend to talk with family or friends about their

4. Remember you cant take away their pain you can let them know
they are not alone. 5. Empathize with them say, Im so sorry to hear
that this happened to you. 6. Be genuine and dont hide your
feelings, say, Im not sure what to say, but I want you to know that

7. Listen, be non-judgmental let them tell their story as many
times as they need/want to. 8. Allow periods of silence be a good
listener. 9. If you knew the deceased, talk about what you loved
and miss about them. 10. Encourage them to do something the

counselor or social worker if they observe students who are having
a difficult time Offer caring supports to grieving students
Discourage speculation or rumors about the death, especially on
