#meettheresidents Fakers Club aka Stephanie Miracle, Johann Geidies, Liliana Ferri, Jor-dan Gigout, and Alejandro Russo are notorious in the community of Börstingen for stirring up mischief. Their love of space/place is especially striking in their wildly colorful live-cinema public performance experiments in and around the old school of kunstortELEVEN. In their new Episodes 2 & 3 they successfully recruited two other resident artists to join as cameo performers.

#cherishedobject The infamous walkie talkie is every Fakers’ prized possession.

#breaks Though the Fakers Club can rarely afford to take a break from their busy rehearsal and performance schedule they relish a sing-a-long by the fire or a Twin Peaks marathon.

#meettheresident I came to kunstort ELEVEN artspace as a painter, and I left as an accidental performer.

#breaks To relax I made tree portraits to add to the archive of other tree portraits I have made, played guitar with Luca and taught the other artists Canadian folk songs.

#cherishedobject Manitoba Sweetgrass - Sweetgrass brings positive energy to a space. When travelled with, it also serves as a temporary portal home.

Luca Migliorino ItalyPaintingMay-June

#meettheresident I‘m Luca. I graduated as a painter in the Venice Aca-demy of fine arts. Then I decided to leave the warm Italian sun to live and work for a month in this cold country called Germany. I wanted to open up to the possibilities that exist espacially in foreign places. I tried to be ins-pired by the dark atmosphere that I felt in Germany. I painted on a single image for a month and over time I changed and over painted it more than fifteen times. It was so hard for me, but I think, it‘s probably my best pic-ture now. And I enjoyed the evenings playing guitar and singing, jamming around the fire with lots of funny people and telling weird stories.

#breaks At the kunstort they always said I‘m a gifted guitar player. Don‘t believe that, but it‘s my passion too. So it‘s clear that this was my favourite pastime during my painting breaks - as well as playing basketball. The breaks were perfect for me meet all the people, who worked here at the same time and to learn more about them.

#cherishedobject My cherished object in the residency was definitly the red scooter. It was so funny, we were some adult artists working with paint in a former elementary school, and we moved around with these children‘s toys: There are many reasons to be like a child again.

#meettheresident During my stay in ELEVEN, I have observed my room and make a drawing based on the pattern in my room’s wall, ceiling, floor and window. Through this process, I left some object including my room’s pattern. If imagine stuffed object of my room’s pattern is left imprint of my stay, we can link relations-hip between space, pattern, and body. Curiosity about where and how we live in is the fundamental focus for my work and life. What is naming, this question is main motivation of all of my work and interest.

#cherishedobject One of the belief in life is that living without any stuff. When I pass away, I hope I left nothing. Usually, I don’t buy and keep treasure something beside work materials. However, if there are something that I want to be with me, it is several favorite music. I have tattoo in my arm, which is song’s title. I feel these songs is ideal results of art, so sometimes it make me think I don’t need any more art and life is enough to live. My Cherished object is living on my body.

#breaks The most peaceful moment is concentrate on my own existence through the work out. I have been yoga in almost every day, which is base exercise with also stretching. Favorite sport is climbing and hiking, but I think important time is that only doing my self without any other person. Meaningful moment of life is practicing yoga in night with closed mouth.

#meettheresident During my stay at kunstort ELEVEN artspace I have been challenging and expanding ideas previously too nervous to pursue. The environment at ELEVEN is one that fosters interaction and exploration. Freedom is paramount; ideas and practice can be shared without fear of judgement. My work is about sharing knowledge; expanding expectations; uncovering what has been there all along; providing a moment where nothing else is important; testing boundaries and learning what can be done with what happens to be there. Creating art for you and me and them - with stories, objects, participation, image, action and reaction.

#cherishedobject Whenever I‘m at ELEVEN, Ping Pong is necessary. Not just the act but the conversation and the company. Rarely serious, often insightful. The time spent will be cherished as much as the objects, every time I return; Ping Pong is definitely on the agenda.

#breaks In my spare time you can often see me making tea, doing yoga, reading, juggling, sleeping, eating, cooking, walking, talking, exploring and obviously playing Ping Pong. Recently reinvigorating a love for climbing, camping and the outdoors, all possible free time in the UK (when it’s not raining) will be spent on a rock in the middle of the country.

#meettheresident My work is neither art nor life, but something in between, consisting of so-called „banal spectacles“ and the foreign symbolism that I could find in (my) Ger-man everyday life during my stay at ELEVEN.

#cherishedobject It‘s my little notebook; it looks old and feels old too. Tonight I took it up from the shelf as if digging something out of the memory. Inside scribbled many of my past to-do lists, to-read lists, to-sell lists when I moved, as well as to-prepare lists before upcoming interviews. Clearly this little notebook has better memo-ry than me — while I forgot where and how I got it, it still remembers when I finished my plans, and how I abandoned many of those: 8.6 get rid of things you don’t need. / 8.21 catch up with Grapefruit’s Illustration Class 10.20 sell: mirror, fan, lamp, bookshelf… / 10.24 decide the books that have to be mailed back / 12.1 morning / 1.3 collect daily inspirations for myself, not for someone

else. The last page wrote “1.5 shot list done”. Then just like I started using it at some point, I stopped using it out of nowhere. Curious, and a bit scared, I flipped through the pages. I see anxiety, ambitions, struggles. I see pauses and hopes. I feel 80% alienated from and 5% familiar with the person who wrote all this. The 15% rest is unknown feelings. I know that this is something I would pack no matter where I move.

#breaks I walk a lot. It‘s a good exercise. Cat cafes, river banks, historical architecture, art museums... Walking is a kind of medita-tion, and a ritual of life. Walking, as a routine for my “breaks”, is my way of healing.

#meettheresident On my first day at Kunstort ELEVEN, I stumbled across a small purple book called “Psychogeogra-phy.” One month later, I‘m still obsessed with the term, which is shorthand for “the personalities of cities.” During my time here, I‘ve created literature with a focus on cities, sound and silence; explored the malleability and rigidity of language; and finally, at last (for real this time) finished that novel manuscript that was due six months ago.

#cherishedobject I have worn a beaded Kenyan band for two years. Its installation around my left wrist was a difficult process, and the band can only be removed by cutting it off. I used to live in Kenya, where I learned Swahili, and now hold very strong opinions about the correct way to brew tea. (Hint: Don’t use water.)

#breaks Music and music theory — you’ll never find my without my headphones! I‘m a proud theatre nerd, and nine times out of ten, I‘m listening to a cast album on repeat.

#meettheresident I am a multi-talented professional Fine Artist based in Rhode Island, US. Over the past two decades I have crea-ted hundreds of Murals, Mosaics, Paintings, and other Works of Art for a wide variety of clients. My work can be found on everything from the sides of buildings, to the altars of churches; in museums, hospitals, homes, and businesses, and in the private collections of people all over the world. Recently, the nature of my work has begun to change and evolve in unexpected ways. Mesmerized by textures and every day found objects; I resurface, rework, and re-purpose them into new forms; taking mundane, overlooked, and discarded items and turning them into works of art. At times I will accentuate an object’s inherent textures, while at others, I will add texture to an object; always creating, changing, enhancing, and bringing attention to the original intent and identity of the piece. This is an exciting new chapter in my career, filled with promise and potential, and ready to be built on a solid foundation that was decades in the making.

#cherishedobject Precious going away gifts from my beloved niece and nephew; a necklace with crystal and a beautiful charm bracelet that includes a heart on which his name, and the words “Miss you” are engraved. Makes me feel very loved.

#breaks Visiting, seeing, exploring and experiencing amazing Starzach, Börstingen and as much of Germany as possible!!! Capturing the beauty on camera, and meeting some wonder-ful people along the way. Also, always a highlight, (after the painful climb(!)), is going to the Wei-tenburg Castle; enjoying the glorious view of the village below, a cup of coffee, and connecting via WiFi! —(Which is very important to keep up with, and share, these wonderful experiences in my blog). And finally, getting to know my fellow A.I.R.’s and Monika & Frank, of course.

#meettheresidents We are Andrew J Burford and Ilyn Wong, the foun-ding members of All These Faces, an arts collective based in Berlin. The ethos of the collective celebrates fluidity and insists on humor. Our pro-ject while in residence at Kunstort ELEVEN Artspace examines the flow of money within the art world. What we discovered was that satire may, in fact, be the most appropriate way to address this topic.

#cherishedobject It‘s definetly Olive, the old and handicapped dog who has moved around a lot with Ilyn in the last ELEVEN years. She is prone to anxiety and loneliness, but is otherwise a sweet angel.

#meettheresident I am working with cityscape. As landscape is interpretation of nature, cityscape reflects political, social, and cultural attitudes of times. Inspired by commercial display of department stores and theme parks in the cities, my work renders a

kind of fake cityscape which is being there but not there, exploring banal utopias and clichés of modern life. Eliminating the question of authenticity and history, no past or future, the life is living in a perpetual present.

#cherishedobject I think drawing is the origin of creativity. Scribb-ling is a primitive form of drawing as well as a way of meditation. This “Airport Project” sketchbook is for long waiting time in the airport.

#breaks I like to take a stroll through the alleys of the old down-town Seoul. So I did here in the narrow village roads and paths in the Neckar Valley. Walking is for me an elementary form of experi-ence of the city and landscape.

Gerald Fiebig GermanyPoetry, Sound ArtAugust

#meettheresident I applied in early 2018 for the residency with one particular project that I wanted to finish after years of procrastination. During the months between his acceptance and the actual beginning of the residency, my list of other potential projects grew and grew. To my own surprise, the distraction-free offline space at ELEVEN (no internet! no Facebook!) proved so accommodating to my creativity that in addition to finishing the radio piece „New Enamel“ I had applied with, I also managed to write some new poems – partly inspired by the great con-versations with my fellow residents – , and to prepare the programs for upcoming readings and concerts. The concert rehearsals resulted in my album „ELEVEN“ as well as the sound installation „ELEVEN minutes“ for the exhibition „onAiR²“.

#cherishedobject The cute little ZOOM2 field recorder provides the indispensab-le source material for much of my sound work, including that created at ELEVEN artspace.

#breaks „Coffee, coffee, coffee,“ to quote the Gilmore Girls. My ritual of going to the kitchen, preparing a fresh pot and taking it back to the studio worked even bet-ter at ELEVEN artspace than elsewhere because the long walks down the hallways made it all the more meditative.

#meettheresident I feel free to leave traces on blades of grass and clover. A large meadow becomes a free playing field for water games. The liquid color can flow, splash, form puddles and sweat drip unnoticed into it. With bare feet I‘m standing on the canvas and soak it with plenty of water - so that the tension is balanced. Later, the fabric images will hang like wet towels on a clothesline, drying in the blazing sun - Stations on the way to become an art piece. Colored stones remain as bait for curious children!

#cherishedobject A ring is my constant companion. A ring made by me, for me - to remember and to concentrate .......

Gabriele Nold GermanyPaintingAugust

#meettheresident My work is a mixture of abstract and objective parts. I‘m exploring human relationsships and using black and white photography from the sixties as a pattern for my paintings. For my work at the artspace I collected photos of dead insects, birds and plants to insert them as a collage in the colorful paintings. Small works of beauty and transitoriness arised.

#cherishedobject My object is a very trivial thing. It’s a T-Shirt initially worn for some time, then sorted and recycled at my studio as a rag to clean the brushes from the colors. I brought a couple of them to the artspace, not only to be equipped with the stuff I need for painting, but also to carry some colors, some traces along with my. Sometimes I wear the fabric as a bracelet.

#breaks All kind of breaks are very welcome, not to escape the work, but to create a rhythm of concentration, inspiration and rest. Lying at the meadow for a short while, walking to the kitchen to prepare a black tea, having a chat with a colleague. Even ex-changing water for the brushes in the nearby sink.

#meettheresident The time in ELEVEN artspace felt free and safe in the most delightful way. It inspired me to find the balance bet-ween mind and body that I needed to create my plays and performances and to explore poetry and choreography. I‘m used to work with and for others. To have the chance, space and time to focus on working on and for myself was a pivotal point for me. I particu-larly loved the possibility to develop and share her Androgynous clown and to make kind connections and get stimulating feedback

from other artists, and the possibility of collaborating, sharing and getting to know local practitioners. I found a routine that managed to keep my sane, creative and positive and I hope I will not lose that.

#meettheresident Sometimes when I think about what it means to be an artist and to have a creative practice, I get a bit flustered. It‘s a good flustered. My mind goes all over the place, and I am reminded that I have so many different creative options to tap into. I try not to give myself specific labels anymore. I‘m an artist with many interest. I like to make objects with my hands. I like to play with moving images and video. I like music. I like writing. I like comedy, the absurd, performance. I like play. D‘Arcy Blake Canada / USAConceptual Works, WritingSeptember

#meettheresident I am a New York-based writer, critic and occasional artist. My practice focuses on the current challenges for art in today’s age of social media, diverse Internet cultures and the numerous related consumer economies. Although I mainly write about these topics in the form of traditional art criticism and non-fiction, I also find the material practice of visual art an effective way of approaching critical topics from different and sometimes more tangible angles. The key for me is that art, writing, and critical though are all different pieces of the same puzzle, and I enjoy creating conversations between these various disciplines.

#cherishedobject During my residency, my cherished object has been my copy of David Foster Wallace’s novel Infinite Jest. Resi-dencies are places to experiment with new techniques and explore different perspectives, and for me, reading Infinite Jest has been just that: it’s shown me completely different ways of constructing narrative and critical writing.

#breaks It might sounds backwards, but most of what I did for work at the residency was read! My breaks were spent being active—playing ping pong, cycling to the nearby towns and hiking to catch an occasional cell signal. Most importantly, though, to take breaks from research and critical writing I began to experiment with writing fiction (something I’d never done before). Playing with fiction in my spare time was a truly mind-expanding thing for me, and was probably my big-gest gain from the experience, because it forced me to think of creative ways of developing com-plex ideas and narrative structures. That contrasts significantly with my usual writing style, which is direct and logical, and not nearly as fun! Taking breaks, I think, can be the most important and productive part of the artistic process—sometimes you need to step away from your work in order to see it more clearly. Breaks are when breakthroughs happen.

Thomas Collins CanadaDrawing, Art MachinesSeptember

#meettheresident I studied first electronics, then electrical engineering, and finally drawing. The same curiosity that had me study technical fields has likely been responsible for my love of drawing machines. When I was accepted to Kunstort ELEVEN artspace I knew I‘d be building some kind of machine. Given the closeness to nature and lack of big-city resources I thought I‘d make a machi-ne that didn‘t require a computer and all the bits and pieces to run. It would run under the same principles as a clock, under pure mechanical power that is released very slowly. I wanted my machine to be a reflection of nature - something that takes its own time, creates its own marks, and is open to interference. It was a captivating challenge to build something in a way I‘d never even read about before without the ability to just open my phone and do a search. Every question I had was written down and numerous sources found a day or two later. It‘s been a fantastic residency and I leave here with a lot more than just a machine.

#cherishedobject My cherished object is this little puffball thing my partner made when working with seniors in Toronto in 2016, I think it‘s supposed to be a panda. She said she had a present for me, and gave me this thing and immediately said „you have to keep it with you forever“. She wasn‘t serious, but this little thing rides in my backpack an has been on every trip with me since.

#breaks The sun rises above the mist each morning and illuminates the entire valley, other times its totally silent save for the fol- ding of the sails in the courtyard above a morning coffee, seeing the old parts of the nearby villages and joking around with other residents.
