Dear Neighbors
Dear Neighbors,
As we start 2019 with a newly elected PLAMHO board, I’d like to look back for a moment to thank those who served on last year’s
board, whether for part of the year, or all year: Frank Adamo, Ken Bauer, Bill Berry, Michael Bleifer, Joe Collings, Debbie Ellis, Leroy
Jones, Denny Levine, Phyllis Soto, and last but certainly not least, the late Alleyn Kinney. These individuals volunteered their time
and talents to the betterment of our community, and they deserve every resident’s gratitude.
On January 12, PLAMHO members who attended the annual meeting elected a new board. In addition to myself as president,
Michael Bleifer was named Vice President and Frank Adamo, Michael Lamb, Wally Lampe, Denny Levine, Debra Socolick and Steve
Tekesky were all also elected to the board. The Secretary position was left open by the Nominating Committee as a vacancy to be
filled by the board. Within a couple of days after the meeting, Ted Berard reached out to me to express an interest in the position.
He has been unanimously approved by the board to serve in that capacity.
The board held its first meeting on January 14. During that meeting we discussed what our goals are for PLAMHO during 2019. A
primary goal is to increase PLAMHO membership. We hope to do that by engaging all PLAMHO members to personally reach out
to neighbors who may not be PLAMHO members, to explain the vital role that PLAMHO plays in our community. We also hope to
sponsor more events including speakers on topics of interest to the residents.
Our first event is our annual Super Bowl party fundraiser. This event promises to be a good time for all who attend, with some fun
new twists, including a “white elephant” raffle. The sign-up sheet is in the clubhouse and Michael Bleifer is selling squares for
several betting pools. So please sign up to attend, buy some pool squares, and come on down to the clubhouse on February 3 at
3:30 (an hour before kickoff) to watch the game with your neighbors and friends. The menu includes chili and hot dogs (two hot
dogs included with each $5 admission). PLAMHO is also pleased to announce that an anonymous resident has offered to match,
dollar for dollar, any additional donations received at the Super Bowl event, up to a maximum of $100, so PLAMHO will be accepting
donations at the event with the hope of maximizing this matching grant.
The next event will be the Landlord Tenant Act class on Saturday, March 2 at 10:00 a.m. AAMHO will be providing the speakers for
this event, which is always informative. We encourage all residents, but especially new residents, to attend to learn about our rights
and responsibilities under the Act. We will be serving lunch after the class, and we gratefully acknowledge the sponsorship of Kody
Newland, of PM-MH Insurance for the meal. Please sign up early so we know what materials to prepare.
There will be a $5 materials fee (to AAMHO) per person/couple attending the class.
I hope to see lots of you at the Super Bowl party!

RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION NEWS
.
A little about myself, my husband Ken and I moved into Pine Lakes on Aug 1, 2016 from Tunkhannock (pronounced “ton-
can-ick”) Pennsylvania, after we retired. I pictured nice warm winters away from the cold, grey and often very snowy
north-east Pennsylvania winters. Umm, our first winter here, we had an 8 to 10 inch snow storm on Christmas Eve! OK
I have to admit, the skies are always blue, and the sun does shine almost every day, and the sound of the wind in the
pines….Oh yeah, got off track again…Ken and I enjoy sitting on our porch with a cup of coffee and watching the world go
by.
My background in in foodservice. Anything from washing dishes in a nursing home in high school, to being a counter girl
for Woolworths. But I have to say being known as “Mrs. Lunchlady” for 25 years in the Tunkhannock Area School District,
was my favorite. I have a certificate degree in School Foodservice Management from Penn State. I have chaired a variety
of social events for different organizations I have belonged to over the years. I always find myself in a kitchen somewhere.
As your new board, we hope to have a calendar full of events you will be happy to attend
Time to make another cup of coffee,
Bonnie
PLEASE TAKE NOTE After much consideration and discussion, your newly elected Resident Association Board has
decided not to hold a February event.
We do however encourage you to attend both PLAMHO’s Super Bowl Party on Sunday the 3rd

February, be sure to sign up by Jan 30th
. And the Firewise Chili and Potato Bar Dinner on Feb.

You can sign up for both activities in the clubhouse. Please show your support to these two
events.
Your Residents Association is planning a fun and exciting St. Patrick’s Corned Beef Dinner to be
held on Saturday March 16th
. Watch for sign-up sheets.
Welcome to 2019! Now that most of us have made it through our New Year’s Eve snow storm and
we are quickly approaching February already, can I interrupt your day for just a few minutes to say
your Pine Lakes Residents Association would like to wish you a Happy, Healthy and fun New Year!
My name is Bonnie Heard and I have the honor of being President for 2019 and I am hoping this
will be an energetic, exciting and, entertaining year

As you settle into your new life in Pine Lakes we have some resources to help you get acclimated.
One of these is our community website which contains a host of useful information. You can read the newsletter, check
out upcoming social events or even view what is planned for your enjoyment for the entire year, and learn about the
various clubhouse activities, hiking clubs, games and more.
Stunning pictures of the wildlife, flowers and scenery in the community may be found under Gallery, while the various videos
of Prescott and surrounding areas provide information to tempt you to explore the many activities Prescott has to offer.
You can read about Pine Lake's history as a working cattle ranch, and find important information about co-existing with our
animal friends.
Of utmost importance is the brochure on Fire Safety procedures and our evacuation plan. Since we are adjacent to the Prescott
National Forest, fire is always a consideration, particularly in the summer. Familiarizing yourself with our evacuation procedures
may save your life!!
You can check out the weather from our very own weather station located here in the park.
There are two community associations in the park, PLAMHO which addresses issues of resident Health, Safety and
Welfare, and the Resident's Association which organizes social and recreational activities for residents. Details are
posted about both groups.
If you have any questions at all, just hit the Contact Us button, send us an email, and we'll respond right away.
Welcome to Pine Lakes, we are glad you're here.

Traffic Safety
We still have drivers who routinely
exceed the posted 15 mph limit and
endanger others by their actions.
PLEASE remember that dog walkers and
residents have a right to use the streets
to. We are one of the few parks who still
have a 15 mph. Most other parks are
only 10 mph. Don’t’ make it necessary
for electrified speed limit signs and traffic
cameras to control speeders.

This is the time of year when crooks seem to be particularly active, and almost every day we are
treated to news of new scams.
The Daily Courier recently published a warning by the Arizona Attorney General that people should
be especially careful over their passwords, and consider changing and strengthening them. He said
that over 771,000 people have had their passwords exposed to scammers, and possibly many
more.
The Grandfather/Grandmother scam is active again where someone pretends to be a grandchild who has been arrested, or in
an accident and needs money right away, often by pre-paid gift cards or direct bank transfers. Crooks are getting more
sophisticated, gathering family information from online posts so they can add personal details to sound more genuine.
At this time of year various IRS schemes abound, from getting phone calls, supposedly from the IRS saying you owe taxes and
must pay immediately or face arrest. ( I personally received this one several times.) Another IRS scam deposits money into your
bank account as a supposed refund and then says it was a mistake and must be refunded so they can scam you out of that and
more.
When shopping be aware of crooks with handheld scanners which can read your credit card information from a distance and
access your accounts. Invest in RFID sleeves for your credit cards for protection. They are inexpensive and will give you peace of
mind.
Beware of messages supposedly from your bank asking for updated security information. Do not respond without first calling
your bank to see if the request is genuine.
A man had 50 yard line tickets for the Super Bowl. As he sat down, he noticed that
the seat next to him was empty. He asked the man on the other side of the empty
seat whether anyone was sitting there. "No," the man replied, "The seat is empty."
"This is incredible," said the first man. "Who in their right mind would have a seat
like this for the Super Bowl, the biggest sporting event in the world and not use it?"
The second man replied, "Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to
come with my wife, but she passed away. This will be the first Super bowl we
haven't been together since we got married in 1967." "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.
That's terrible. But couldn't you find someone else -- a friend or relative, or even a
neighbor to take the seat?" The man shook his head. "No, they're all at the
funeral."
We handed out gift bags to all the volunteers and had some great gifts for those who
have been in the program from day one, for best attendance on a worksite and for hospitality. Because of the efforts of our resident
volunteers our community has dramatically reduced the risk of a wildfire
Our goals for 2019 will be to go through the community twice this year to maintain the hard work that was done in 2019.
The Firewise team has two fundraisers planned with guest speakers to continue to educate the community about how to reduce
the risk of wildfire. On Saturday 2/16/19 from 2pm we are hosting a chili and potato bar dinner. The guest speaker will be Dan
Sinclair from FACS operation to talk about fire retardant and give us a live demonstration.
On April 27th from 8am to 11am we are hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser. The guest speaker will be Jake Guafiana from state
fire and Yavapai County Jeep Posse. The jeep posse will be training us on the evacuation of our community in case of an emergency.
We are planning to have the Perryville fire crew come back in the spring for three full days. The 19 crew members will be cutting
more fire breaks in hard to reach areas for our volunteers.
Remember we live in the forest and it's not if we have a wildfire near us it's when!!! If any resident has any questions on how to
Firewise your homesite please give me a call.
Thanks for all your support for our Firewise efforts.

On Saturday 1/19/19 your Firewise team held our first annual Firewise Volunteer
Recognition Dinner. It was our way of giving something back to the
Firewise volunteers for all their hard work and dedication to improving Pine Lakes;
The residents that volunteer for this program are the heart and soul of our
community . We had a wonderful Italian dinner thanks to John Gerardi who
donated his time to prepare the meal.
