If they are up to no good, they will vacate quickly.

PHEW!! What’s that smell?
If you notice a strange odor: smoke, fumes, chemical, etc.
- Do others smell it?
- Check if you might locate a source. Autoclave?
- Usually the source can be easily found and resolved.

Run For Your Lives!
• Remove yourself and others from danger
• Evacuate the building via nearest exit
• Activate the building alarm by pulling the pull station
• Close doors behind you

• Meet at rendezvous location (Point – the gate)

Be aware of:
- machines- loose clothing & footwear- sun & heat- insects allergies? EPI pen?- medical conditions?- poisonous plants- chemicals, plant sprays, etc.- dust - mixing soil, planting, etc.

Accident Reporting
- Notify your immediate Supervisor (Technician)- Fill out Notice of Injury Form
- Supervisor will then notify- Plant Science Office 474-8221
- Plant Science Office will notify - UM Environmental Health and Safety Office 474-6633
Incidents include the following:
- personal injury- occupational illness- fire, major flooding, or explosion- chemical, biological or radioactive spills/escapes/discharges- collapse or structural failure

Working Alone Policy for Rm. Agriculture Building
Work involving hazardous material(s) or open source radioisotopes shall be done during regular work hours.If performing a task for the first time, try to do it during working hours so other persons are nearby.
Requirements if you are working alone outside of regular work hours:
1) Make sure someone else knows that you are here andthe type of work you are performing (supervisor, friend, spouse, relative).
2) Let your contact know how long you expect to be here and call them when you are leaving. If you are working alone for a long period of time ask your contact to call you if they have not heard from you by a specified time.
3) Make sure your contact knows:- your cell phone number, - phone number in the lab (474- - - - -), and - phone number for security services (474-9341).
The Safewalk Program is available at 474-9312. A Security Services officer will provide a safe walk to your car or other building.

Purpose
• To minimize the risk of transferring soil, pathogens and pests.

Take Home Message
• Never leave a location without cleaning!
• As a result – you/equipment will always move to a new location clean.
• This will ensure you are not moving soil, pathogens or pests from field to field.
What does this involve?
• Communication
• Record Keeping
– Fill out Biosecurity Checklist – each time you leave a location.
Human Sanitation
• Wear disposable footwear coverings.
• Clean footwear when leaving a location. Use disinfectant.
• Clean hands and clothes when leaving a location.
Vehicle Sanitation
• Visit fields by foot!
• Leave vehicles/trailers on the road.
• Any equipment/tools that entered a field must be cleaned when leaving.
Cleaning Vehicles/Equipment/Tools
• Rough Clean – knock or scrape off the soil in the field.
• Fine Clean
– Blow off soil with compressed air.
– Pressure wash off remaining soil.
– Keep your vehicles clean (inside and out).
Where to Clean
• Use washing station at Carman or the Point.
• Use car washes between locations.
Take Home Message
• Minimize the risk of transferring soil and associated pathogens and pests.
• Never leave a location without cleaning!!
