1 Advanced Reporting System Types

The PlexView Advanced Reporting system provides a comprehensive reporting environment that enables you to generate control and optionally schedule access to predefined customizable reports The Advanced Reporting solution provides access to inventory (for both the EMS and Plexus switches) performance monitoring order entry data and optionally traffic statistics The platform consists of distributed databases and the report engine from Business Objects

11 Architectural Overview

Advanced reportingrsquos design architecture can be based on the application it will be used in

bull For applications without Advanced Traffic Collection it can reside on a PC and the EMS server

bull For applications that include Advanced Traffic Collection with a high call volume the ARS can support one TSAA database in a Plexus switch per advanced traffic collector

bull For applications that include Advanced Traffic Collection with a low or medium call volume the ARS can support a number of TSAA databases in many Plexus switches per advanced traffic collector

When traffic collection is part of the architecture call volume and the type and frequency of reports should determine the architecture of this highly scalable system

12 Advanced Reporting Architecture

When Advanced Reporting is used primarily for inventory management the system can support inventory information for all Plexus switches tracked by the EMS as shown in the following figure

Figure 1 Advanced Reporting System

44 Schedule Reports with the optional Broadcast Agent

Once you create a WebIntelligence report the report can then be scheduled to execute at predetermined times if you have purchased and installed the optional Broadcast Agent

45 Map Report Objects to TL1 Commands

Reports have data structures that in many cases can be cross-checked against TL1 commands For example a search of the Plexus 9000 TL1 Command Reference Manual for CasLineAid would yield the following

Plexus 9000 TL1 Commands Reference Guide Section 120-780-000 Issue 1 January 24 2003 ENT-CAS-LINE Name ENT-CAS-LINE Enter CAS Line Description ENT-CAS-LINE lets you associate a DS0 channel with a CAS (Channel-Associated Signaling) interface ENT-CAS-LINE will not work correctly unless the following commands have already been issued in the listed order ENT-T1 ENT-PRFL-CAS and ENT-CAS-IF Category Signaling Security SA Input Format ENT-CAS-LINE[TID]ltcasLineAidgt[CTAG]ltcasIfIdgt [NAME=ltnamegt][ltpstgt]

Input Parameters casLineAid Identifies the AID as a DS0 channel used for CAS Type T0 Range IOM-1-17-PORT-1-28-T0-1-24 = a channel on a T1 port on a DS1 IO module IOM-1-17-STS1-1-8-PORT-1-28-T0-1-24 = a channel on a T1 port on an STS1 IO module IOM-1-17-T3-1-8-PORT-1-28-T0-1-24 = a channel on a T1 port on a DS3 IO module Default value none

When mapping report objects to TL1 commands some mappings vary from the normal mappings Mapping issues with examples are shown in the following table Other mapping issues are listed afterward

16 of 20 Telica Inc

PlexView Advanced Reporting Manual ltUser Guidegt Section 141-105-000 Issue 1 December 15 2003

Table 1 TL1 Mapping Report Objects to TL1 with Examples Item Example An Access Identifier (AID) may consist of multiple components

RouteAddrAid identifies the AID as route address The pattern is a combination of the route address (a telephone number associated with a route name) and the nature of address indicator (defined by the parameter RouteIdent)

Multiple reports can correspond to a single TL1 command

Reports associated with the following classes from the SUBSRIBER MGMT GROUP in the universe all map to the TL1 command set ENTEDRTRV-SUBSCRIBER-IF

CasSubscriberIfRpt

IsdnSubsriberIfRpt

GR303SubscriberIfRpt

MgcpSubscriberIfRpt

Reports associated with the following classes from the IMT GROUP all map to the same TL1 command set

Ss7TgRpt

CasTgRpt

BiccTgRpt

SipTgRpt

Reports associated with classes from the IMT GROUP in the universe all map to the same set of TL1 commands

All of the following classes correspond to the TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-TRKGRP

Ss7TgRpt

CasTgRpt

BiccTgRpt

SipTgRpt

The MilliwattRouteAddressRpt from the ROUTING GROUP in the universe maps to a RouteAddress in TL1

A universe includes classes that support multiple PLEXUS switch versions simultaneously Creating a report from a non-applicable group or class for a particular switch version will return no data

There are cases where the EMS distinguishes the class name for the same report type in different versions

bull In the SUBSCRIBER MGMT GROUP the SubscriberPreV37Rpt class refers to subscribers from prior to Plexus switch version 37 and SubscriberRpt refers to subscribers from version 37 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-SUBSRIBER

bull In the ISDN PRI GROUP the IsdnIfPreV38Rpt class refers to ISDN interfaces prior to Plexus switch versions 38 and IsdnInterfaceRpt refers

Telica Inc 17 of 20

lt User Guidegt PlexView Advanced Reporting Manual Issue 1 December 15 2003 Section 141-105-000

to ISDN Interfaces for versions 38 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-ISDN-IF

bull The IsdnLinkPreV38Rpt refers to ISDN Links prior to Plexus switch versions 38 and IsdnLnkrpt refers to ISDN links for versions 38 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-ISDN-LNK

There are some extra attributes in each report that do not map to TL1 but are maintained by EMS The following list of EMS only attributes contains every class of PLEXUS GROUP

bull Switch This EMS specific attribute identifies the switch for which the record pertains

bull EmsAid It is the Aid (as defined in the TL1 command) usually padded either on left or right used for sorting purposes

For example the difference between CasLineAid and EmsAid is shown the results window displayed in the following figure If CasLineAid is IOM-10- T3-1-PORT-14-T0-1 the EmsAid looks like IOM-10-T3-01-PORT-14-T0-01

As another example the EmsAid differs from Aid in the SS7RouteRpt If TL1 Aid is 10-10-10-1 the EmsAid is padded to look like this 010-010-010-01

There may be scenarios however where Aid and EmsAid look exactly the same You can preview the results of the query before actually running the query and filter or remove duplicate columns from the end reportdocument

SipTgRpt

The MilliwattRouteAddressRpt from the ROUTING GROUP in the universe maps to a RouteAddress in TL1

A universe includes classes that support multiple PLEXUS switch versions simultaneously Creating a report from a non-applicable group or class for a particular switch version will return no data

There are cases where the EMS distinguishes the class name for the same report type in different versions

bull In the SUBSCRIBER MGMT GROUP the SubscriberPreV37Rpt class refers to subscribers from prior to Plexus switch version 37 and SubscriberRpt refers to subscribers from version 37 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-SUBSRIBER

bull In the ISDN PRI GROUP the IsdnIfPreV38Rpt class refers to ISDN interfaces prior to Plexus switch versions 38 and IsdnInterfaceRpt refers

to ISDN Interfaces for versions 38 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-ISDN-IF

bull The IsdnLinkPreV38Rpt refers to ISDN Links prior to Plexus switch versions 38 and IsdnLnkrpt refers to ISDN links for versions 38 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-ISDN-LNK

When mapping report objects to TL1 commands some mappings vary from the normal mappings Mapping issues with examples are shown in the following table Other mapping issues are listed afterward

bull The IsdnLinkPreV38Rpt refers to ISDN Links prior to Plexus switch versions 38 and IsdnLnkrpt refers to ISDN links for versions 38 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-ISDN-LNK

Once you have selected a universe you will be presented with the following data groups that reports can be generated for The data available for reports includes the following classes (logical groupings)

bull EMS Group This group represents EMS only inventory like switch information Access Control Lists (ACLs) alarms and events ConfigLog and UserAccounts

bull Traffic Group This optional group represents traffic statistics data compiled by the TSAA application

bull PM Group This group represents performance monitoring data of some of the Plexus 9000 modules

bull OE Group This group lists all the classes that order entry reports can be created from

bull Plexus Group This group represents Plexus 9000 inventory

Each of the GROUPSSUBGROUPS and classes beneath them are expandable to reveal all objects associated with a class The following figure illustrates all the groups available in the EMS GROUP

43 Create and Run Reports

You can create and run any report available from the classes and objects group The following guidelines govern report creation

bull Select a class and drag it to the right to select all objects in the class

bull Select a subclass listed under a class provides all objects in the subclass

bull Expand the class select an object and drag the specific object to the results objects window as shown in the following figure

Note Exercise care when executing queries with multiple objects Oracle is a shared resource between the PlexView Element Management System and PlexView Advanced Reporting Classes with many subclasses and objects may demand a lot of the system

PlexView Advanced Reporting Manual ltUser Guidegt Section 141-105-000 Issue 1 December 15 2003

Note Please refer to the Business Objects documentation for more detailed instructions on the use of filters in report creation

Use the following procedure to create and run a report

1 Expand any group on the left of the window and drag any class or specific object(s) from a class into the Results Objects window on the upper right as shown in the following figure

Figure 6 Click and Drag Class Subclass or Object

Dragging a specific class onto the window will result in a full query such as EMS GROUP This will return all objects underneath Dragging objects such as Accesslistname and Downloadprivs into the results objects screen as shown in the previous figure will return results on those objects

To do a conditional query drag a class or objects in a class to the results objects window Drag one or more objects into the Conditions window as shown in the following figure By doing this you have set up a filter that returns results with conditional information

32 Create Documents

You can create two types of documents using WebIntelligence

bull WebIntelligence Documents Creating and executing a WebIntelligence document is entirely web-based You can create a query execute it and view the results within the web browser WebIntelligence documents are good for quick queries

bull Business Objects Documents You can create reports execute queries and view the results locally on the PC using a downloaded thin-client application The thin-client application also known as Zero Admin Business Objects downloads automatically for this type of document

Telica recommends that you use Business Objects reports with the PlexView Advanced Reporting System The thin-client application is very robust and the reports can be easily reproduced Web reports are acceptable for one-offs

4 Create Business Objects Documents

To enable thin-client Business Objects document creation perform the following steps

3 Once logged into WebIntelligence select Options in the left tab

4 Select Create and Edit Documents in the top tab

5 Choose the type of document you want to create For reproduceable reports select the lsquoBusiness Objectsrsquo option instead of WebIntelligence A screen shot of this page is shown in the following figure

the available universe list create and export universes to the Business Objects repository Refer to the Advanced Reporting Installation Guide to create and export the necessary universes Then return to this procedure

42 Available Universes

There may be scenarios however where Aid and EmsAid look exactly the same You can preview the results of the query before actually running the query and filter or remove duplicate columns from the end reportdocument

When mapping report objects to TL1 commands some mappings vary from the normal mappings Mapping issues with examples are shown in the following table Other mapping issues are listed afterward

to ISDN Interfaces for versions 38 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-ISDN-IF

bull The IsdnLinkPreV38Rpt refers to ISDN Links prior to Plexus switch versions 38 and IsdnLnkrpt refers to ISDN links for versions 38 onwards Both reports refer to the same TL1 command ENTEDRTRV-ISDN-LNK
