DAVE FUNNELL: WHO SAID YOU HAVE TO BUY A GUITAR
The cover of Rolling Stone magazine is a cultural icon, graced by everyone from politicians to pop stars. An iconic original masthead designed by psychedelic artist Rick Griffin, coupled with captivating images from legendary photographers like Annie Liebovitz, positioned the magazine cover as the reference point of popular culture. For the first time in history 150 of the greatest Rolling Stone Australia covers, from the 1970s to the present, are on display.
Assemblage is not a common way to create a musical instrument however the Wombat Creek artist has created sculptures that look like and in a way play like guitars, banjos, ukuleles and mandolins. Dave Funnell has utilised many sources of objects - pots and pans from the kitchen, bike spokes and wood from the workshop, strings and machine heads from the music shop and advice from local musicians. The final works are formed by the found object or by the particular moment in which they were made.

JOHN MILLINGTON: BRIDGES TO ABSTRACTION
THROUGH THE LENS: MARKING THE CENTENARY OF WWI
Through revisiting the “hard edge” painting style of the 1960s the Maclean based artist explores themes of the rainforest, waterfalls, the sugar industry and open-cut mining. John’s artistic journey to this point of abstraction is documented through digital images of past works.
“While the imagery is fairly easily identified, I have purposely restricted myself to seeing how much can be interpreted in horizontal and vertical line only. Nevertheless, very occasionally, I found the odd diagonal line or curve could not be entirely avoided.” – John Millington.
