We will inform you when the badge presentation assembly will occur. School Uniform Expectations It is tremendous to see the students have begun the school year so well by wearing their full uniform. I remind you that students should have their hats at school for term one and part of term two. The Uniform Policy also states no nail polish or jewellery is to be worn apart from watches or certain earrings (studs and sleepers only). If your child wears a turban or hijab, I would also ask you to ensure it is plain without any jewels or tassels and is the colour of the uniform – either maroon, light blue or white. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

I am asking for feedback please re: leggings. At assembly last Friday, I stated that leggings are not mentioned in the school uniform policy but a number of students are wearing them. Since announcing this, I have received feedback from parents regarding the wearing of leggings. Please keep an eye out on the school Facebook page as we will soon post a poll to gauge your views. With your input school council will then make a decision. Thank you in anticipation of your input. Student Accident Insurance Each year I remind our school community that the Department of Education and Training does not cover the cost of student accidents. However there are some companies who can offer you inexpensive student accident insurance if you wish to cover your children while they are at school. Use the following web address to find a sample of insurance company links on our school website. http://www.kilberryps.vic.edu.au/page/106/Other-Publications Or simply google ‘student accident insurance’ for a wider search for a suitable company that offers what you require. We do not recommend any particular company for insurance purposes. I also inform you that the Department of Education and Training does not hold insurance for personal property brought to schools and it has no capacity to pay for any loss or damage to such property.

Bike/Scooter Smart Pledge I remind you that all students from years 3 to 6 are able to ride their bikes or scooters to school but must complete a Bike/Scooter Smart Pledge before commencing to do so. These can be collected from the office or Mrs Newport (Monday to Wednesday). If you have already signed a pledge last year, you do not need to sign a new one. This outlines the expectations we require to ensure a safe passage to and from school for our students. No student in year Prep to 2 should be riding a bike or scooter to school unless under strict parental supervision at all times. This is a safety factor with the high level of traffic in the area. A huge concern also is the development of the students’ judgement and peripheral vision to safely negotiate the road issues they will face each day. Car Parks – Staff Only!! I remind you that the two school car parks, in the school grounds with gates on Kilberry Boulevard and Warana Drive are for STAFF USE ONLY. It is too dangerous to allow cars to be moving in and out during school time and at drop off and pick up times. So please do not enter these areas at any time - for the safety of your children. General Courtesy Obeying the Road Rules around the School Precinct For your children’s safety I begin the year with a plea for your consideration and cooperation in ensuring you follow the road rules and display courtesy at all times when parking or driving around the school. Pick Up and Drop Off times are very busy in any school but as we have almost 500 families there will be a lot of traffic. I suggest you park a street or two away and have a stroll on a nice day with your children.

When parking in the surrounding streets, it is imperative that you also follow the parking regulations and rules. We must honour the local residents with courtesy also. We have tremendous neighbours around the school so please do not park in their driveways, on nature strips and ensure you obey the parking regulations in place. There are ‘No Standing’ signs in the area that must be obeyed. I remind you that the drop off spots at the front of the school in Kilberry Boulevard have a ‘No Parking’ sign that means that you cannot leave your car and come into the school ground. You must stay with your car.

Absence Notifications If your child is absent from school, it is essential that you ring the school office on 9702 8688 on the morning of the absence. We would also appreciate a note with the student on the day they return to school. You are aware that current regulations state we must contact you if there is an unexplained absence. So save us a message and you the embarrassment of a text by letting the office know any time your child is absent. I thank you in advance for your cooperation in this matter. We are off to a great start … let’s keep it going. Have a great week and keep smiling! Neil Cunningham Principal

Please help our Breakfast Club!

Last year at the KVPS Breakfast Club we served over 2000 FREE meals.

These numbers demonstrate the popularity and need for this program amongst our community. It is a wonderful chance for students and families

to socialise and make a healthy start to their day.

In order for our Breakfast Club volunteers to continue to offer this essential service we are asking for a donation of 1 food item

from each family at KVPS.

If you could be kind enough to send 1 jar of jam to school we would be extremely grateful. The most popular Jams amongst the students are

raspberry and strawberry jam, however any flavour is greatly appreciated.

Please note this donation is optional and only one item per family is required. Every FRIDAY there will be FREE toast for all students Time: 8:30- 8:55am Day: FRIDAY mornings Place: Gym Cost: FREE

We are always looking for parent helpers. If you have a current WWCC (Working With Childrens Check) and would

To help create a sustainable environment Kilberry Valley Primary School has gone

wrapper free EVERYDAY!

What does it look like?

A “wrapper free” lunch box is one that has no plastic wrappers or rubbish that goes to landfill. Use re-useable containers and re-use snap lock bags to build a healthy and rubbish free lunch box. And remember, fruit scraps are not included as rubbish! Kilberry Valley Primary School has a composting program to reduce landfill and to educate students about sustainability.

CHANGE OF CLOTHING FOR STUDENTS

We would like to remind parents to provide a change of clothing in children’s

school bags—preferably some clean underwear, track suit pants,

windcheater, shorts or a dress.

This is handy for ALL children in ALL grade levels .

We ask for your co-operation with this matter as our Sick Bay is unable to cope

with the large volume of people requiring changes of clothing.

One of our children in the school community is receiving medical

treatment which puts them at serious risk if they are exposed to

infectious illnesses, in particular: Chicken -Pox, Measles,

Mumps or Shingles.

It is also important that while your child is unwell they remain at home until they

are no longer contagious. Please let us know immediately by calling

the school office on 9702 8688.

As a school community we value your support in relation to the wellbeing of

all our students.

Any parent who wishes to help out in

our classrooms or on excursions, must provide a current Working With Childrens Card (WWCC) to the office.

On the day you come to assist, please come

through the office and sign in using the visitors kiosk you will be given a “Classroom helper Privacy Agreement” to read and sign.

Please ensure you bring your Working With

Childrens Card with you, to display in our lanyard, which you will wear while in the

classroom or on excursions.

If your child is absent from school, please ring the office on 9702 8688

before 9.30am on the morning of the absence or notify us by e-mail

[email protected].

THANK YOU
