    SAPSASA Summer Hub Tennis

On Thursday, 13 February the SAPSASA Summer Hub Tennis competition was held at Balaklava. There were four teams competing including two teams from Clare, one team from Burra and one from Balaklava. Local boys, Darcy and Kobi Collins-Dodd represented their school in the Balaklava team. There were six players on each male and female team and each player had to participate in three matches for the day which included both doubles and singles games for each match. Darcy and Kobi played really well, winning some games and losing others. Considering it was a long and hot day out on the courts, they did remarkably well. The final result saw the Clare 2 team win overall, closely followed by the Clare 1 team. Balaklava team came third followed by the Burra team. All the children played really well and demonstrated awesome sportsmanship by the way they supported, congratulated and encouraged each other. Well done to all!

Thank You Thank you to Marg Hean for volunteering to open the library on the 3rd and 4th Sunday of each month, 12 noon to 1.30pm. Volunteers are not easy to come by these days so Marg’s assistance is greatly appreciated by the Newsletter committee which runs the library/ book sales. Thanks again Marg.

Did you know… Alfred Nobel invented dynamite in 1867. After a newspaper mistakenly published his obituary—which called him a “merchant of death”— he was so upset that he founded the Nobel Prizes to restore his reputation.

Forget Newton and Galileo. Here are the real laws of nature:

    Balaklava High School Swimming Carnival

Adam Pain, son of Darryl & Susie of Port Wakefield had a successful day at the Balaklava High School Swimming Carnival, taking out three second places and one third. Adam also swam in several events out of his age group to represent his house team, Keith. This enabled Keith house to gain points for that event. Keith house gained the most points in the carnival. Well done Adam!

Port Wakefield loses a valuable volunteer

How sad to hear that one of our very valuable residents who has, over the years, contributed much to Port Wakefield with her volunteer services, is moving on. Groups that benefited from Maureen’s volunteering include: Port Wakefield Community Management Committee, Port Wakefield Community Newsletter committee, St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Clementina Corner Cottage Craft shop. Maureen has moved to Balaklava after her home in Port Wakefield was acquired by the government for the new highway development. Thank you Maureen for all you contributed to our town and best wishes in your new home.
