Hello everybody!

I’m Daniele Urgo and I’m a digital artist. I know could be generic, because could represent not a specia-lization to a field, but my best skill it’s exactly to be a polyhedral artist, because I studied and practiced differents fields of digital.I experimented new technologies and put together all this skills for a final product, but first of all because I’m fa-scinated to experimenting new way and software to produce an artwork, and second because as a digital artist, I must to be updated with software and hardware.

I studied in Academy of Fine Arts in Milan for a three years degree in Scenography, where I started to grow up my general skills and especially my digital skills. Autocad, 3D Studio Max, Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign was best friends for passed exams, but not only. As a scenographer I was interested to video making and so about all the knowledge about video editing, from animation to 3D presentation.

After first degree, I continued in second degree in speciali-zation in New Technologies of Art, with the idea of integra-te Scenography and technologies. In this period I started to improve my knowledge and started the real experimentation and collaboration with artists from different fields, improving all skills and learning other one like Performing Art, Street Art and Hacker Art, through new technologies .For capacity to lead together all programs, I worked as free-lancer and bring my idea of own creator that could integrate easily all my skills in one project.

After years of works during and experiences in Italy, I thou-ght the possibility to move for testing new places and I choo-se to test Bruxelles as center and capital of Europe and as a potential new place for an artistic opportunity.

After diploma in Art High school, I developed my artistic career growing in the Academy of Fine Arts, where I could define a deeper consciousness on classical art to new te-chnologies and so increase my vision and methods.Having had the possibility to study, practice and compare with artists from differents artistic provenance, I was fascinated in the thematic of mind/oniric and its diffe-rents forms.Often in this thematic, I would show the oniric rela-tionship with the bad habits of society as a plague for the community and Nature; sometimes I would represent the mind and the complexity of it, drawing with impulse a de-fined idea or an improvisation that is the pure refigura-tion of the subconscious.Doodles, masks, circuits as ironic images among new me-dium/technologies, or revisitation of classical master-pieces of Art History in a more contemporary environment.I created a personal visionary world, following my poetic way that could be recognized in the performing art, to video or animation, in which the illustration is mostly the link.As appreciation of my works, I was invited for have les-sons in a seminary about relationship between new and an-cient approach of art.

Series of digital revisiting, called “Remake”, of famous masterpieces of Art History.The original idea is to imitate the style of the artists and imagine in an ironic way, so modifying a detail or all the composition, maintaining the recognizable of the masterpieces. After sharing, I wanted and would see the reaction of people, of society seeing something of familiar like a masterpiece as well as a moment of day life, in gesture, in occasion, environments.

All the project, the idea, why the name “Remake”, a personal presen-tation and especially the confront between the remakes and the origi-nal masterpieces, are presented in

“Ceci n’est pas un portfolio”.Indeed that isn’t exactly a real portfolio, but an ironic presenta-tion, imitating “Google Books”, as well as the function of remakes.

The remake of “The Kiss” by Francesco Hayez, had a big success in social networks, becoming a mass sharing of this picture, with an uncountable number of shares in Italy, also arriving over borders. In line of Hacker Art idea, that I support as a different approach to Net Art, this personal success pay me in possibili-ty to could say my vision of art in some interview for newspapers and as a guest of a seminaries.

Series of symmetric masks, animals, por-traits. Illustrations that digging in deeper gesture of drawing, representing a mood in a subject.I did some of this illustrations as posters or t-shirt design in screen printing press, both for sale than personal use.

As lover of digital arts, I experimented different fields of illustration and layout, this case is CD cover for Dj Framps (Bruxelles), inspired for electronic Techno/Bassline/Psyche-delic music. Down, the different steps of the illustration, from hand drawing, to vectorization and post-production.

I particularly appreciated this work, because I had the possibility to use different programs together, that is:

Through SketchBook, application for smartphone, I started this project of illustrations. As a real sketch book, I had the neces-sity to draw in a comfortable way in crowded places. So, during travels in urban transport I started to use application for re-presenting what is around me in underground, tram, bus and conceptualize all what I saw and felt in an image.

Sketchbook is an Autodesk application, quite easy to use, but it’s ideal when you don’t have pen and paper.Since I have the interest to test all of the potentiali-ty of new media, I recogni-zed it as a nice medium to hypothesize a project.

From the first years of my studies in scenography, I thought the way to integrate new technologies with clas-sical method of scenography. I try to stay in time with changement of Art, starting with integration of videos, but after I progress my study in new technologies, I un-derstood that it wasn’t enough.Videomapping, interaction among actors, spectators and live performance, audio-reaction is new frontiers to discover. During this proceed to improve my knoled-ges, I was interested in new kind of street-art. I used a free-ware application, L.A.S.E.R. Tag. This was only for graffiti, I deepen through image and studying for a real performance. Started with projection in the stre-et, passed in live performances with artists/vj and using mixer-video, I did some performances all around in Italy. From these direct experience, I could improve my knowle-dge about projection and environments indoor and outdoor. After moving in Brussels I started my career as VJ, but always with challenges: thetre and street art.

Street Art personal project, based on using new technology among projection and laser drawing live in im-provisation performances on free wall around cities. Here some screenshots and photos of some street perfor-mances. For more informations click here: photos and video.

Laser pen, is composed by green and red laser, where the red is for target, when you loose the started point and will don’t leave a trace.The red laser isn’t so strong for be read from settings, in comparison to the green one.I adopted this solution of double laser for be more comfortable and help the act of drawing.

Performing in R.E.U.M. project (Rapid Eye Urban Movement), started in Brussels, I develop vi-deo-mapping experiences, among midi-controller, and defined competences in audio/video connections.

VIDEOMAKER

Related to my academic route, I started in production and post-production of video for my own cinema-sceno-grapher and videomaker. Through experiences as stu-dent, worker in theatres and freelancer, I could have a direct experiences in preparing set and communication with actors for shows and video recording.After more experience, I’ve developed through illustra-tion and animation for personal animation and especial-ly for contents in live performances and animated vi-deo.During the accuracy of studies for creative content, especially as digital artist, the post-production as well as video is basically an important competence for my artistic experience.Animation, as perfect mix to illustration and video, is a research on drawing, moving an image is a deep rese-arch of any kind of images. From frame to cartoons, is a challenge that I could test in different form:

MilanoStadtKrone 2030 are 16 utopistic and futuristic projects of international studios on Milan territory. The editing is characterized from the editing of architectural plans, so an animated assembly of it, and summarize the concept of every projects.

In this case, the editing was extrapolate the elements directly from technical drawin-gs. After conceptualized all the projects, we summary, fixing in Photoshop all the spaces caused by cutting on drawings and proceed to editing with all the contents, maintaining the futuristic idea of every projects.

“Reality” is a video collaboration, rappresent an oniric imaginary, as a dream with apparently disconnected scenes, but in same time related. A human fabric, produce humans, from an “infected” worms brain who imagazine bad acts, represent by metaphoric scenes. I did illustrtion contents, some animations and 3D scenes for final video editing.

“ Within thirty years, we will have the te-chnological means to create superhuman in-telligence. Shortly after, the era of human beings will end. “(Vernor Vinge, Technological Singularity, 1993).

With “Reality”, we were selected for “File Festival 2015” in Rio de Janeiro, festival focused on new technologies in dif-ferent forms and meanings. Here some screenshots of final video and elements processed in my role.

All 3D elements are created with 3D Studio Max, exported in .PNG and post production in After Effects.

Videomaker, production and post production was my first experiences. Indeed most of my video projects was related to years of academy in which I take part to video reviews organized by Academy. Anyway these were important experiences that allowed to produce some social videos, with guys from difficult neighborhood or as social experiment, and grow up for a digital artist identity.
