EXCELLENCE INNOVATION SUCCESS COMMUNITY POTTSVILLEBEACH PUBLIC SCHOOL Wednesday 7 February 2018 Term 1 Week 2 Tweed Coast Road, POTTSVILLE NSW 2489 T 6676 1161 E [email protected] W pottsville-p.schools.nsw.edu.au PRINCIPALS MESSAGE It’s great to see so many happy faces and a real joy to see students rekindle friendships from 2017. To our many new students and parents welcome to our school. Pottsville Beach Public School thrives on the relationship we have with parents and our wider school community. Schools are resourced on a formula based around the number of students enrolled at the school. Each year Pottsville Beach enrols over 100 new students which impacts directly across all grades and classes. One new student in Year 4 for example can result in a reshuffle of students across all grades - Kindergarten to Year 6. We are currently three students away from adding a class which means we have just three vacancies spread across 25 classes…its tight! On the staffing front there are no “new” teachers at Pottsville. Ms Collier, Mrs Samuelson, Mrs Keyes and Mrs Lockett are all teachers that have worked at Pottsville Beach PS. Our staff and classes for 2018 are: KS Alison Schultz KH Amanda Hawes KP Shara Perry AP KR Robyn Rampano 1/2F Kath Frost AP 1D Judy Donnely 1H Yula Harris 1C Shaun Cowin 1S Di Sharp 2S Alison Stone 2H Lisa Hook 2PS Amy Paron/Tara Samuelson 3/4R Maryanne Rudman 3/4L Sue Lee 3/4W Owen Werner/Tamara Lockett 3/4A Jill Abood - Relieving AP 3/4M Steve Macdonald 3/4C Eleanor Collier/Leonie Richards - Relieving DP 4/5R Rodney Ryan AP 5K Tamara Keyes 5T Trish Tyson 6B Darlene Briggs 5/6S Sonia Squires 6R Peter Rologas 6S Karen Smith Finally an apology for the look of the school. Building work is imminent, however we appreciate that the front of the school is not that attractive and doesn’t show us in the best light. Unfortunately it is out of our hands. DEPUTY PRINCIPAL NEWSIt was exciting to see so many happy and excited students eager to see their friends and their teachers. This week teachers from Years 1-6 will be talking to their students about the important role of SRC class representatives. Students will be encouraged to nominate themselves if they are interested and during this week the students will vote for their three class leaders. These students will then be inducted at our Week 4 whole school assembly on Monday 19 February at 8.55am. You Can Do It! (YCDI!) Organisation - Welcome back to another year of our YCDI! program. For those new to the school YCDI! is our whole school social and emotional skills program. It aims to teach our students the social skills they will need to function in our ever changing world. The program is broken into five foundations: organisation, confidence, getting along, persistence and resilience. Specific skills are taught each week as part of the program. This term the whole school will be focusing on the important foundation of organisation. At our school organised students keep track of their belongings and are fully aware when their homework and assignments are due. At this stage of the school year they are working hard to understand the routines of the classroom and the ways in which they can assist their teacher and their classmates to keep their classrooms organised. They begin to schedule their time independently; they are learning to bring their own resources to school and are learning the importance of setting goals. We welcome and thank our Organisation representatives Jemma P and Saige S.
