Adrienne Rich5 Day Unit plan by Chase DyeAnalyze the LearnerGeneral: My class has 25 11th grade students. Of those 25 students, 14 are female and 11 are male. My students are from different ethnic backgrounds, with 14 white students, 7 African American students, and 4 exchange students. The exchange students are from mostly European countries: France, Sweden, and Slovakia, and have a strong grasp of English. One exchange student is from Thailand, but she understands English well, although with a heavy accent. I have 2 students who identify as ADD/ADHD.Learning Competencies: Students should have a basic understanding of poetry, how to create a presentation, and basic research skills.Learning Styles: The majority of my students are audio/visual learners, however two students are kinesthetic learners.

Main ObjectiveMy students will demonstrate knowledge of who Adrienne Rich was and analyze her work in contrast to her life, through videos, reading poetry, class discussion, research, and presentations by Friday with 100% accuracy. BreakdownDay 1 Start with a WebQuest on Adrienne Rich, followed by a class discussion on what the discovered about her, and a presentation on Diving Into the Wreck. Day 2 Start the day with a video of Rich reading Diving Into the Wreck. Class discussion on the piece, while we look at it on projector. Annotate as a class. Day 3 Read Aunt Jennifers Tigers. Students will walk while reading the piece to feel how the poem changes rhythm with form and punctuation. As a class, relate this poems theme to her life. Day 4 Students will pick one of her poems and get into groups to read and analyze the piece. They will have all day to read and annotate the poems and to create a short creative piece(art, craft, prezi, skit, etc.) to present to the class.Day 5 Students will present their groups work and write a small (1 page) analysis describing Rich and her works.Use of Technology Students will use the mobile lab to complete the WebQuest. I will use a computer and Nearpod, to present on Richs Diving Into the Wreck.I will use a projector to show Richs poetry reading. I will use an ELMO projector to annotate the work with the class.Having copies of the texts for students to read and write on. Students will use the mobile lab to find another of her works as a group, and to read it. I will have some art supplies for students for their creative pieces, and their will be some computers for student use if they wish to use a computer.I will have a projector for student presentations.Work CitedAdrienne Rich.
