Important to Remember

Leaver explicitly says:

That they WILL be unemployed on census date

You are not permitted to call them again to check if their situation may have changed

However:

Those who are unsure what they will be doing on the census date can be re-contacted

Q1: Leaver is working full time and studying a part time course in Spanish language – Which is the most important activity?

Q2: Leaver is travelling around Australia, a third party has advised that the leaver is currently working as a barista in Australia to save some money before moving onto Bali – What activity would you select?

Q3: How many hours could the leaver work before being considered to be working full-time?

Q4: What is the census date for the upcoming collection?

Q5: Leaver’s time is taken up with caring for a family member full time but upon probing they also tell you that the leaver is also engaged on a part-time computer coding course – What activities would you select?

Q6: Leaver has told you that they are unemployed but after further probing questions they also disclose that they are spending 6 hours a week blogging online for a local charity – What would you record for this leavers activity?

Q7: Leaver is currently working as a finance intern for 35 hours per week with travelling expenses only. On the back of this role has secured a full-time paid position with the same company and is due to start this job within the next month – What activity would you select in this case? Q8: Leaver is working building up a collection of examples of their photography work and this is taking up all of the leaver’s time – What would you select as leavers activity?

Q9: Respondent explains that she was pregnant when finishing her course and is currently a full-time mum since the baby was born and plans to start looking for work next year – What would you record as this leavers activity?

Q10: True or False? – One way that you can determine whether a leaver is definitely unemployed is to ask whether they are receiving unemployment or other state benefits. Pass answer forms onto another team to mark your answers!

Calling leaver that completed a part time BA Business Management at Birkbeck. The leaver has answered question 1. In explaining what he is doing since graduating he has given the following information: • Works for the London Borough of Camden as a full-time Administration Officer and

worked throughout his course at Birkbeck with time off to study.

• Has held the role there for 11 years and studied for the qualification to improve his chance of promotion, but it was not required for the job.

• Working in the public sector was his career objective, he liked his office as it was close to home.

• The leaver mentions that he started working there just as the internet was becoming widely used and it was the first job he applied for online.

• He says that the degree has helped him in some aspects of his current role when looking at budgets and related IT systems in use
