What is Preposition?

නිපාත පදයක් යනු නාම පදයක් හ ෝ සර්ව නාමයක්

වාක්යහේ හවනත් වචනයක්ට ඇති සම්බන්ධතාව

දැක්ීමට භාවිතා වන වචනයකි.

A preposition is a word used to show the

relationship of a noun or pronoun to

some other word in the sentence.


Example - උදාහරණ

පූලසක් ඉන්නවා

There is a table

ලේසයක් තිලයනවා

There is a cat under the table

ලේලස යට පූලසක් ඉන්නවා

Usage - භාවිතා වන ආකාරය

Prepositions are words placed

before nouns

Ex: The baby is sitting on the

floor

Place before pronouns (Must be object

pronouns) such as “me, you, him , her ,

it , us , them

Ex: The teacher works hard with us

Some prepositions consist of

more than one word

Ex: The teacher is standing

in front of the class

Some verbs are often followed by

prepositions.

Ex: The dog is running after the cat

හමයට අමතරව “in the middle of, surrounded by”යන පදයන්ද

හම් අර්ථය ගැනීමට හයාදා ගත ැක්.

හමය ඉතා බහුලව භාවිතා වන නිපාත පදයකි. එය හයහදන

අවස්ථා රාශියක් ඇත:

1) He looks at me

ඔහු මා ලදස බලයි

2) There are few foreigners at the airport

ගුවන් හතාුහපාලේ විහේශික්යන් කිහිප හදහනකු ිටී

3) We usually have our lunch at 1.00 pm

At ලයලදන විල ේෂ අවසේථා

ලදස, අසෙ, හි,

At හයහදන විහ ්ෂ අවස්ථා:

• At a time

At noon, at 8 o’clock

• At age

At the age of sixty

• At a place

At home, at a hotel, at the office, at the bust stop, at the

school


Around, Among

Around

වලේම, වටා

There is a fence around the gate

වත්ත වහට්ටට වැටක් තිහයනවා

Among

අතර (ලගාඩක්)

I have to deliver a speech among them

මට ඔවුන් අතර ක්තාවක් පවත්වන්න හවනවා

There was a quarrel among the children

ළමයි අතර රණ්ඩුවක් ිටදුවුණා

හදහදහනකුට වැඩි පිරිසක් හ ෝ හේවල් හදක්ක්ට වැඩි නම් එය

විස්තර කිරීමට “among” භාවිතා ක්රයි.


Behind, Between

පිටුපස, පිටුපසින්

Her house is behind the temple

ඇයහේ නිවස තිහබන්හන් පන්සල පිටුපසයි

හදහදහනකු හ ෝ හේවල් හදක්ක් ගැන විස්තර කිරීමට “between”
