Microprocessor is the heart, the soul as wellas the brain of computer. In fact it is itself acomputer.

Microprocessor is the single chip integratingall the function of CPU

Central processing unit which co-ordinate allthe function of computer.

Generates timing signal, sends and receives

data to and from every peripheral used inside

or outside the computer. The command required to do this are fed into

the device in the form of current variation

which are converted into meaningfulinstruction by the use of boolean logic

    system.

It divides the function into two categories,

    logical function and processing function.

The ALU and Control unit perform these

    function respectively.

    The information is communicated through

    bunch of wires called BUSES.

    SHOCKELY BRATTAIN and BARDEEN

are the man behind the invention of

    microprocessor in 1947.

Function of this large component can be

performed easily by arranging group of

    transistor on a single chip.

This is called INTEGRATED CHIP(IC).And the man behind this was JACK KILBY.
