Dear Quilters:

COMMUNICATION: The communication line in our guild is very important.

When one link is missed, it causes great confusion. Wilma read a statement for me at

last meeting. Please refer to page 4 in the newsletter to read it again. If anyone has a

question or comment, let me know. I want to ask each committee chairperson to please

communicate with the board members and membership. Let us know what is happen-

ing with each committee. I personally feel responsible for the confusion about the elec-

tion for the vice-president position. It’s very important to give your support to all the

board members, the present members and the new ones coming on board in the new

year. Let’s focus on what we do best and move forward into next year making beautiful

quilts and supporting our guild activities, speakers, quilt teachers, and the next quilt

show.

The revised by-laws that will be voted on this guild meeting will prevent any fu-

ture misunderstanding about elections. Come prepared with your question or com-

ments for the by-laws. The committee spent many long hours revising and updating

them. Thank you to each person who gave so much time and effort.

Our condolences and deep sympathy for our member Nancy Trumble. Her hus-

band passed away the weekend of our quilt retreat. Our thoughts and prayers are with

her and her family during this difficult time. We love you Nancy. Thank you Suzen Ingle

for helping her get back home from the coast safely.

This guild meeting is our annual Christmas potluck and gift exchange. Bring a

small gift for exchange. It’s a lot of fun.

We are also bringing a gift for a boy or girl. We will be donating them to the

Christmas effort. This year, more than any other, gifts will be needed for our communi-

ty. Thank you for doing what you can.

We are in NEED of donation quilts for children. At the retreat this year, the Fort

Bragg guild members brought 30 quilts for us to give out for children - so very generous

of them. They also brought us cookies. Thank you, Ocean Wave Quilters.

WE NEED A SECRETARY!! Please let any board member know if you can serve a

term. Thank you. Keeping our non-profit status depends on our guild having a full board.

Be sure to purchase your tickets for our opportunity quilt. Quilt show commit-

tees are forming. Sign up to help make this next show a great success!!

See you at the meeting. Barb

Hello wonderful quilter's!! I just wanted to give you all a high five for all the quilts turned in at the last meeting. There were at least 15 and they were so beautiful! At the quilt retreat we were blessed from the Ocean Waves Quilt Guild with 30 quilts to be given away to fire victims. Isn't that wonderful?? They also gave us tons and tons of cookies which we ate like crazy!!.

I just want to tell you that since the fire happened, we have given away 82 quilts! Yep, you heard right. I know there are a lot more people out there that need quilts. Some of you have given me names. I will contact them this week-end and see if we can give quilts to them and their students. All in all, we have given 197 quilts this year. I think we will surpass 200 and that is so good.

Please bring pillow cases and doll quilts to the meeting but if you still need time to make more that will be fine. I will tell you once I know when they are needed because as far as I know no building has been found for the Christmas Effort. But that always happens, so not to worry!

It has been wonderful being your community service person for so many years. I really enjoy quilting for my town and my world. I will not give it up as I turn over my threads to Bonnie. I will support her any way I can and I do hope you will too. Our community needs to know the Grapevine Quilters care. So, keep quilting for us!!

Deby Franks is new librarian. Thank you! The books are now on shelves in the meeting room at the church. Deby will have them ready for checkout at the December meeting. Please make sure you take the time to check them out. It looks like there are some wonderful ideas and technique suggestions there.

The Block of the Month is called Waterwheel Variation. You can find it on www.quilterscache.com. In the drop

down menu, click on Quilt Blocks Galore. Then click on 12” Blocks. Scroll down the alphabetical list until you come to

the name of the block you want.

Pat asks that you use the following colors:

Color 1 blue

Color 2 blues/prints

Color 3 greens

Unfinished 12 1/2". When you square up your block, make sure to square it at 12 ½

inches. That gives the seam allowance needed for a finished block of the proper size.

You get a ticket for each block you submit. Winner takes all blocks home.

October Vote for Officers: Barbara Little

Several members have brought an issue to my attention about the October election of officers. A name was added to the ballot at the last minute. It was presented as a nomination from the floor but then the new person’s name was printed on the ballot. This means that the addition was known about prior to the evening of the meeting.

The members wondered why the addition to the ballot was not sent out to the entire membership by the nomination committee prior to the meeting. If the nomination had been emailed to the entire membership pri-or to the meeting, then all members would have had the chance to attend the meeting and vote as they wished. As it was, some members felt that the vote should not have proceeded because all members did not know of the addition to the ballot. Also, because the new name was printed on the ballot, it brought up the question of who knew of the nomination and who did not. Did a lot of the people who knew the name would be added come to the meeting with the express desire to vote for that candidate while those who did not know of the ad-dition stayed home because the ballot was uncontested?

The procedures in the bylaws need to be followed for a reason - to prevent just this sort of question. I apologize for any misunderstanding or confusion this situation created.
