__________________________________________________________ « PLANT BASED SUMMIT »

TO WHAT EXTENT HAVE BIO-SOURCED MATERIALS MADE A BREAKTHROUGH IN THE AUTOMOBILE INDUSTRY? Last November the Plant Based Summit devoted to plant chemistry was held in Paris. Over 500 specialists in plant chemistry rubbed shoulders during the two days of the conference and exhibition proposed by the Association of Plant Chemistry (ACDV) in partnership with the InfoPro Digital Group. The challenges and opportunities of this emerging industry were analysed with the conclusion that the transition to industrial production needed to be accelerated. Building on this success, PBS will be returning in 2015. In the meantime, the event has launched a series of half-day conferences called «Plant Based Summit Mornings» to discuss the breakthrough of bio-sourced chemicals in downstream industry. The following topic will be discussed during the first PBS morning which will be held at FIP: «Bio-sourced materials and vehicles». The automobile industry is effectively seeking to reduce the environmental footprint of its vehicles. One of the lines of thought is to replace petrochemical materials by bio-sourced materials. The aim of this morning is to review industrial achievements and future projects. Are there any obstacles to remove among bio-plastics and bio-composites producers and processors using these new materials? Is there a wide range of materials that meet the specifications of the automobile industry at competitive costs? What are the benefits for the automobile industry? What indicators exist to measure the positive environmental impact of the use of these bio-sourced materials? Moderated by SYLVIE LATIEULE, Chief Editor FORMULE VERTE, with the participation of : n Aurore Fries, Moderator, ACDV n Gérard Liraut, Polymer, Characterisation and processing Techniques Expert Leader Renault n Laurence Dufrancatel, Materials Innovation Manager, Faurecia n Estelle Pierrat, automobile market development Manager, Arkema n Franck Thumerel, Business Development Manager, Roquette n Thomas Lefèvre, President, Natureplast n Camille Carré, Engineer - Researcher on new bio-plastics, Bioteam University of Strasbourg n Dietrich Albrecht, polymers business development Manager, Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers Europe n Patrick Vuillermoz, Executive Manager, Plastipolis

_________________________________________________________TRADE SHOW PROGRAMME

TUESDAY 17 JUNE 10:00 am Sensors in the injection process Jean-François Berthier, Project Manager - PEP Plastics and Composites technical centre Increased technicality of parts and quality requirements, zero defect objectives, and ongoing research on productivity gains are all elements that oblige plastics manufacturers to control their manufacturing processes. Existing production and control tools have proven their worth but are limited in the current context. Technological developments now allow us to configure the entire injection process; however, their use is not widespread. Positioned in the injection process, and more particularly in tooling, they help develop and monitor processes. 11:00 am New developments in paint (liquid / solid) and its applications for more environmentally friendly coatings. Presentation of the recycling committee, a joint pilot action (thermoformer / recycler / extruder) which has led to the drafting of a guide to good manufacturing practices highlighting critical points to control to ensure suitability for food contact. 5:00 pm ICARRE 95: substituting virgin materials with recycled materials Sophie RABEAU – Institut Supérieur de Plasturgie d’Alençon (ISPA) Gérard LIRAUT – Renault With the decline of primary resources, recycling is a key theme. In 2015, the automobile sector will be imposed an end of life vehicle (ELV) recovery rate of 95% and a recycling rate of 85%. With the contribution of the European Union’s financial instrument, LIFE, the ICARRE 95 project proposes to study technical solutions in line with these requirements. Plastics, glass, foams, and textiles account for about 20% of the weight of an ELV and are therefore the target materials to be used to achieve this goal. The study focuses on the recycling of plastics allowing ELVs to be recovered and increase the proportion of recycled ELV materials in new vehicles (ECO2, circular economy ...). One objective of this study is to substitute a portion of virgin materials with recycled materials from ELVs for use in automobile applications while respecting existing material specifications. The ICARRE 95 project was the opportunity to develop an overall concept combining a sampling methodology and formulation optimisation with processes to replace virgin materials with recycled ELV plastics at the ISPA’s research centre in partnership with Renault. WEDNESDAY 18 JUNE 9:30 am - 12:30 pm PBS mornings: To what extent have bio-sourced materials made a breakthrough in the automobile industry? Presented by Sylvie LATIEULE, Chief editor – FORMULE VERTE With the participation of: Gérard LIRAUT, Polymer, Characterisation, and Processing Techniques Expert Leader - Renault Estelle PIERRAT, automobile market development manager - Arkema Franck THUMEREL, Business development manager - Roquette Thomas LEFEVRE, Managing Director of Natureplast Camille CARRE, Engineer - Researcher on new bioplastics, Bioteam, University of Strasbourg. 2:00 pm Innovation, a real organisational challenge for SMEs Presented by Claude KORBER, VINCI CONSULTING With testimonials from Gérard CHRETIEN, Managing Director - FOCAL; Bruno GROSJEAN, Managing Director of LAGOLIGHT; Sylvain VENANT, Innovation Director – BTWIN; Clément LEBEAUME, Technical Director of BTWIN accessories How should innovation be organised and managed in SMEs? Company feedback and best practices. Depending on the size and organisation of the company, R&D teams face constant arbitration between the establishment of a strategic vision and the conduct of operations. Therefore, it is not always easy to dedicate resources to innovation, manage projects with a high degree of uncertainty, target the market ... even though repeated and intensive innovation has become one of main keys to growth and profitability. 3:30 pm Subcontracting: a financial variable for contractors Presented by Luc-Eric KRIEF, CEO of CENAST With the participation of Pierre PELOUZET, National mediator for inter-company relations With the testimony of plastic industry contractors Subcontracting has greatly suffered during the crisis. Either initially assigned volumes have

Page 19: PRESSKIT_FIP2014_MAY14TH14

fiP solution plastique Press kit 19

dropped sharply or buyers have negotiated to reduce the price of their purchases and inherently subcontractor margins or have negotiated purchase terms that are contractually more stringent. As subcontractor volumes have rather tended to decline, the emergence of partnerships between contractors and subcontractors must be even more effective. We must ensure that the expertise of subcontractors does not become just another financial adjustment variable to the detriment of quality and employment. 4:45 pm Advanced and lightweight composite materials for the transport sector Awa DOUMBIA, Researcher – INSTITUT SUPERIEUR DE PLASTURG IE D’ALENCON (ISPA) Over the past few decades, the weight of vehicles has increased, resulting in increased energy consumption and release of CO2 into the atmosphere. As such, reducing the weight of vehicles is a privileged area of research to meet regulatory requirements on emissions by 2020. Therefore, we will be studying the impact of adding lightweight fillers and the various processing methods on the properties of the composite materials developed. THURSDAY 19 JUNE 9:30 am Impossible materials Presented by Gilles GAUTHIER, Manager - MATERIAUTECH With the participation of KRAIBURG TPE, POLYONE CORPORATION, WOODFORCE/ SONAE INDUSTRIA, and EMS-GRIVORY Polymeric materials are a real alternative to conventional materials. They offer a range of possibilities for all markets and for a wide variety of applications. During this exclusive conference, find out how to push back the limits with polymers! Impact resistance, technical and environmental performance, exclusive mechanical properties ...
