Over the last 5 weeks, you have been learning about keeping safe online. It is very important to keep you safe and happy when you are using the internet.Task: Which of the above would you use with these problems? Explain why they could be a danger for you.

1) You’re playing a game online when a pop-up appears offering you free in-game money if you enter your details.

2) In a messaging app on your phone, you receive a photo.

3) Oh no! You’ve opened it by accident and it makes you feel very uncomfortable.

4) Your cousin sends you an embarrassing picture of someone at their school. She says it’s going around her school and the girl in the photo doesn’t know about it yet.

Evolution is the way that living things change over time.

The first person who explained how evolution happens was Charles Darwin with his scientific theory of natural selection.

Charles Darwin observed that although individuals in a species shared similarities, they were not exact copies of each other; there were small differences or variations between them. He also noticed that everything in the natural world was in competition. The winners were those that had characteristics which made them better adapted for survival. For example, they were stronger, faster, cleverer or more attractive than others in their species. These living things were more likely to reproduce and pass on their useful characteristics to their offspring.Individuals that were poorly adapted were less likely to survive and their characteristics were not as likely to be inherited.Over time, the characteristics that help survival become more common and a species gradually changes. Given enough time, these small changes can add up to the extent that a new species altogether can evolve.Task – Use the link to find our more and complete the quiz!https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zf6cf82

Help I’m Stuck!

The week started well but it was all about to change. I had been shedding my skin regularly whenever it became too tight for me- after all, I had been eating a lot of tasty cabbage leaves since I emerged from my egg and I am now nearly one-hundred times bigger than I was!One day everything felt different. I knew it was time to pupate, by forming a strong, hard chrysalis to comlete my transformation into a beautiful, graceful butterfly. Everything went well and I had been relaxing in a safe place under a large leaf. However, today touble struck! My chrysalis began to splie and I know it was time to emerge but I was stuck. I panicked as I tried to free myself from my pupa prison…

Task 1:1) Find and copy one word in the text

that means the same as ‘become visable’.

2) Explain what ismeant by ‘pupate’.3) How does the character’s persona

change through the story?4) Will the butterfly manage to get out of

the chrysalis?

5) Your friend emails and messages you all the time; you’re getting really annoyed that they won’t leave you alone.

Thursday – History Friday – Art

VE Day - After 6 long, difficult years of fighting, Germany surrendered on the 7th May 1945. The following day (8th May) was known as VE Day or Victory Day and was a public holiday (this meant everyone had the day off to celebrate!) Before this year, you might not have heard about VE day before. Why did we celebrate it this year?

Task 1: Answer these questions1. How do you think people in Britain were feeling when Germany

surrendered and why? Do you think everyone felt the same?2. Who do you think the people in the first image are? Do you recognise

any of them? What do you think they are doing? Where are they?3. After WWII was over, rationing of food and clothes still continued in

Britain. Why do you think this was?4. Many women enjoyed the jobs they had in the war: working on farms

and in factories; doing the jobs mainly men used to do! After the war a lot of women were told they couldn’t continue doing these jobs. Do you think that was fair? Why?

This year, you have created some brilliant pieces of artwork. You have amazed us with your art ability and we have loved seeing your skills improve! This week I would like you to reflect on all of the Art we have done this year:

We started with Hans Holbein and his Tudor Portraits. We had fun sketching our portraits, imagining we were Tudors!

We studied the works of Escher and his amazing mosaics. We created our own patterns that we then printed in our sketchbooks.

In the Spring term we looked at landscapes and created our own landscapes using water colours.

During Lockdown, we have looked at the works of mural artists like Banksy and Pop Artists such as Andy Warhol and Roy Lichtenstein.

Task: Your task is to create a piece of artwork based on your favourite unit we’ve looked at this year. You could recreate your Tudor portrait; sketch a new Escher-inspired mosaic; create a landscape using materials you can find

at home or outside; or redesign one of your lockdown pieces!
