About Prince2
PRINCE2 (Projects in Controlled Environments) is an originally project management
method created by combining practical experience (best practices in project
management). The method is the defacto standard for project management in the
United Kingdom and is practiced worldwide. The PRINCE2 manuals are available in
several languages.
The Office of Government Commerce (OGC), owns the method and the application
and use of PRINCE2 is monitored by the APM Group. While the PRINCE2 manual is
owned and maintained by the UK Government, several other governments are now
recommending its use (for exampleThe Netherlands, Denmark, Germany) and it has
been adopted by The United Nations Development Program as part of their global
framework for managing projects.
Processbased approach for project management, PRINCE2 provides an easily
customizable andscalable method for the management ofall types of projects.
Although originally designed for themanagement of Information Technology projects, the latest version of PRINCE2 is suitable for allother types of projects across industry
verticals like Financial Services, Telecommunications,Business Management Services,
Engineering, Education / Training, Defense, Aerospace, Utilities,Research and
Development, Construction just to name a few.PRINCE2 enables projects to have:
y A controlled and organized start, middle and end with Flexible Decision Pointsy Regular reviews of progress against plan and against a specified Business Casey Automatic Management Control of any deviations from the plany Involvement of management and stakeholders at the right time and place
during the project
y Good communication channels between the project, project management, andthe rest of the organization.
PRINCE2 has now become more than a just manual. When people say we are using
PRINCE2 theydont mean that they are using the manual. They imply that they
direct, manage or participate on aproject which follows the process/processes,
components and techniques embodied in the man ual.
Currently there are two different levels of PRINCE2 Certification:
