May Crowning and Living Rosary

Thank you to the students in grade eight, grade two and grade three who so prayerfully formed the living rosary and the May Court at our May Crowning liturgy. Thank you to the Addolorata Society for the gi� of flowers for the living rosary. The May Queen, Niviah Andree was presented with a gi� from the Society. All the eighth grade students were given a blessed rosary from our friend, Vickie Gilley. Father Ken was our celebrant, and students in kindergarten through grade eight were in atendance along with many adults. Thank you all for praying with us.

Re-enrollment

Please complete your re-enrollment for the 2022-2023 school year. If your child is not returning, please contact the office for direc�ons on how to transfer your child. Seats will be released to those families wai�ng acceptance to MQA.

Serra Club Leter Winners

Congratula�ons to Niviah Andree and Logan Polito who were winners of the Serra Club of Greensburg leter wri�ng contest. Students were to write leters to their pastor or a person they admired for living their faith. The winners will receive a gi� of money. Thank you, Mrs. Casper for working with the students on this wri�ng project.

CDA State Winner

Congratula�ons to Ava Seben who was the third place winner at the state level for Division I Poetry. She will receive a cer�ficate and gi� of money. Thank you, Mrs. Shields for working with the students on this wri�ng project.

Zaner-Bloser Handwri�ng Contest State Winners

We are thrilled to announce MQA had two state winners! Congratula�ons to Colleen Gray in fourth grade and Kason Parham in first grade. Both students con�nue on to the na�onal level.

Diocesan Reading Compe��on

Thank you, Mrs. Frantz, Sabrina, Harper, Vanessa, Louisa, Jovie, and Mark for your hard work and commitment to the MQA Reading Club. The group, called “Novel Characters” traveled to St. Sebas�an School to test their trivia knowledge on ten books chosen by the reading commitee. The extra-curricular club met to read, discuss, and create ques�ons to prac�ce the trivia challenge. It was the first �me the diocese held such an event and MQA was one of the inaugural members!

Awards for Science

Louisa Palumbo has won the Grade 7 Society of Analy�cal Chemists of Pitsburgh PJAS Student Award. In addi�on, Mrs. Kestner won the Middle School 2022 Teacher’s Award for mentoring 7-8 grade students in PJAS Region 7 who competed in chemistry and related fields. She will receive a plaque and gi� of money at the dinner! Congratula�ons!

SJHS Earth Day Contest

Poetry 1st place grade 7 Louisa Palumbo - Mary Queen of Apostles School 1st place grade 6 Chase Porter - Mary Queen of Apostles School Photography 1st place grade 8 Kayla Black - Mary Queen of Apostles School Kayla will receive a $500 scholarship to SJHS for winning first place! Louisa and Chase will receive an Amazon gi� card.

Congratula�ons to MQA Ar�sts Congratula�ons to MQA students and alumni who are having their art displayed at a showing on May 7 through May 28 at Manos Gallery. Ava Shumaker, Giuliana Taylor, Ricky Shumaker, Alina Kreinbrook, Archer Kreinbrook, and Ilaria Caporali have art on display.

Boys basketball, cheerleading, and volleyball uniforms are past due. Please wash and return the uniform in a bag WITH THE STUDENT NAME ON THE BAG. Track & field uniforms will be due a�er the championship.

MQA Sports

The eighth graders were recognized at their last home game!

The JV Volleyball team took second place at the Diocesan Volleyball Tournament. MQA’s Varsity Blue took first place at the tournament. Congratula�ons and thank you to all the coaches.

Track and field teams will have their championship tournaments on Saturday, May 14th for grades K-4 and on Saturday, May 21st for grades 5-8. Thank you to all the coaches and Mr. Collett!

MQA Musical Theatre Boot Camp

MQA is planning on presenting a fall musical. To do this, a series of events need to occur. The first will be a summer week-long musical boot camp presented by three St. Joseph HS students who will serve as the directors for the show. Adult moderators will also be part of the camp and show. The camp will help the leaders choose the show and give direction to those who want to participate in the show. The focus will be on singing, acting, and dancing. The cost is $30 and includes a pizza lunch. The camp runs for five days from June 13-17 from 9:00-3:00. It is open to students currently in grades

Father’s Day Car Show and Outdoor Mass

Bishop Larry J. Kulick will host an outdoor Mass and special blessing of fathers on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Christ Our Shepherd Center, Route 30 in Greensburg. We should note that the Diocese is also hosting a car show that day at the same location, with food trucks, raffles and crafts for children. Director of Sacred Music Tom Octave is asking children in grades 2-8 who are interested in participating in Mass to become part of a special Diocesan Youth Choir for the day. Students should meet at 2:30 p.m. at the St. Joseph Chapel at Christ Our Shepherd Center for practice. Mass will begin at 4:30. Families are welcome to stay for the festivities during practice! If your child is interested, please register them at www.dioceseofgreensburg.org/youthchoir so we can provide you with specifics closer to the performance.
