St. Brigid’s Parish, Killester Newsletter November 2016 Eucharistic Adoration Please note that Eucharistic Adoration hours have changed from Wednesdays to Tuesdays Eucharistic Adoration will now take place in our Church on Monday and Tuesday after 10.00 am Mass until 3.00 pm each day and on Thursday night between 7.00 and 8.00 pm. If you are prepared to ‘watch for one hour’ of adoration per week you will be very welcome. We also invite everyone to spend some time - even a few minutes – in prayer and reflection. Each Thursday night for the Autumn months we will be praying for the Pope’s intentions, respect for women and that their contribution be appreciated. All Parishioners are welcome My Dear Parishioners, Firstly, I wish to thank you all who have made me so welcome here in Killester since my arrival. Thanks once more for allowing me to serve you. As November, the Month of the Holy Souls, begins I would like to share a few thoughts with you. Our Catholic faith helps us to believe in the Resurrection. What does that mean? It teaches us that death does not have the final say. Since we believe that Jesus, after he died and was buried, rose again to new life, we firmly believe that for those of us who believe in him, we will share with him in the new life of Heaven. The most powerful experience we have of this life here on earth is love. “Love does not come to an end”, “Love is stronger than death” the Bible says, and we know that this is the case. In recent weeks a document was issued in Rome with Pope Francis’ approval. It explains that we have traditionally buried our dead in cemeteries because of our faith in the Resurrection. Today more and more people are opting for cremation for health, economic or social reasons. The Church has no doctrinal objections to this. It does not prevent God raising us up to new life nor does it destroy the soul. The document states that from now The document is asking us not to simply “do our own thing” with our bodies af- ter death. Instead it asks us to express the belief in the resurrection we share with other Christians. It is not about what I believe as an individual but what we all be- lieve as members of the Church. There are those today who do not believe in the afterlife of Heaven. As Chris- tians we know where we are going. We believe that with death, life is changed not ended. Jesus died so that we would have new life. Let us be strong in our belief, and share our joyful hope with others, not simply by what we say but especially by what we do.

Eucharistic Adoration

Please note that Eucharistic Adoration hours have changed from Wednesdays to Tuesdays

Eucharistic Adoration will now take place in our Church on Monday and Tuesday after 10.00 am Mass until 3.00 pm each day and on Thursday night between 7.00 and 8.00 pm. All Parishioners are welcome

My Dear Parishioners,

Firstly, I wish to thank you all who have made me so welcome here in Killester since my arrival.

The document states that from now

The document is asking us not to simply “do our own thing” with our bodies af-ter death. Instead it asks us to express the belief in the resurrection we share with other Christians. It is not about what I believe as an individual but what we all be-lieve as members of the Church.

There are those today who do not believe in the afterlife of Heaven. As Chris-tians we know where we are going. We believe that with death, life is changed not ended. Jesus died so that we would have new life. Let us be strong in our belief, and share our joyful hope with others, not simply by what we say but especially by what we do.

I would like to invite you to join us on a parish pilgrimage. As you know we are in the closing weeks of the great Holy Year of Mercy. Throughout the past year Pope Francis has been teaching us from week to week of the meaning of Mercy – God’s most powerful message. This message which we share is strengthened when we share this together. This is the reason why, for instance, Pope Francis has asked the whole Church to focus on this message. I recently met with the Parish Pastoral Council for a first time. The council has supported the idea that we do something as a parish to mark the end of this Jubilee Year. As a parish, we will go together on pilgrimage to the Pro-Cathedral, in Marl-borough Street, on Saturday 12th November. I invite you, your family and friends to join us for this special parish event. Fr. Liam

This time of the year many of our feathered friends have flown their nests for warmer climes. I have been informed that some of those who attend St. Brigid’s do so also. There are birds like the Robin and Wren that stay around even in the harshest of winters, and thank God, so too many of our Mass-goers. My apologies for the poor heating in the church. It is right up at the top of my To-do List, but it will not get done until the new year. So, for those who mi-grate, please come back and to those who don’t, thank you for your patient waiting. Whatever about the church, at this time my thoughts are of the poor in our midst throughout Dublin who may be homeless or unable to keep warm be-cause of fuel bills. For this reason

who will have a normal collection in November and a Coffee Morning in the Parish Centre on Wednesday 23rd November and then their special indoor collection at Masses on Saturday 10th /Sunday 11th December. Fr. Liam

St. Brigid's Parish Shop, Killester There is now in stock a large selection of Christmas cards from Divine Word Missionaries and St. Martin De Porres together with a special card depicting St. Brigid's Church and its history. Also in stock are many other items that would make lovely Christmas gifts and include miniature nativity sets, resin nativity globes, cribs, Christmas candles, medals, holy pictures, angel pins, crucifixes, holy water fonts, rosary beads and lots more.

We also have “Down Through The Ages” - a history of St Brigid’s Church and Parish from 1926 to 2006 which would make a lovely read over the Christmas period together with a CD from Gerry Noonan/Dara MacMahon with Pauline Cooper on piano called “Good Old Days of Music Hall’’ together with other CDs which may be of interest.

So why not call into the shop which is located at the Car Park side of the church and see the array of goods available. It may save you an unnecessary trip into town.

All proceeds from shop go to Parish funds.
