In light of recent events in the global arena, Muslims often times feel as if they are on the defensive having to apologize and answer for the actions of a fringe group. Speakers’ Bio Imam Abdulmalik graduated from the University of Mecca in Saudi Arabia. He went on to graduate from the State University of New

York in Binghamton and studied in the Classical Arabic Studies Department. He is the founder and originator of Islam on Capitol Hill

and delivered the Jumaa khutba on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. to over ten thousand muslims. He delivered the Jumaa khutba at

the United Nations for more than five years speaking to the heads of state and the international staff for more than fifty

countries. After 9-11 he was part of the clergy who assisted the New York City police department providing counseling and spiritual

guidance to those who lost family members. Imam Abdulmalik has spoken in various interfaith dialogues in churches, synagogues, and

mosques throughout the nation. He has been a previous guest speaker for ISNA and ICNA events. Imam Abdulmalik has lectured at

the University of Chicago, Harvard, Princeton, Columbia, New York Law School, Long Island University, and many other higher

education institutions throughout the United States and Canada.

Imam Mohammad Joban started his studies at the Indonesian Islamic University in Jakarta, Indonesia where he attained a BA in Arabic.

He then traveled to Cairo where he studied at the prestigious University of Al-Azhar. Upon the completion of his BA in Theology,

Islamic Call, and Culture from Al-Azhar, he concluded his studies at the institute of Islamic Studies in Cairo where he graduated with a

MA in Islamic Studies. While he was in Cairo he was the Announcer, Translator and Editor of Radio Cairo, Indonesian section.

Currently he is the imam at Masjid Ar-Rahmah (MAPS) in Redmond. He is also the current President of the Imam Fatwa Committee in

Washington State, an Instructor of Internet Islamic University, as well as the Muslim Chaplain for the Department of Corrections in

Washington.

Chaplain Tahera Ahmad is a dynamic Muslim “scholar-practitioner” who was raised in Morton Grove Ill. and graduated from Niles

West High School where she played Varsity basketball. Ahmad studied classical Arabic and traditional Islamic Sciences at Al-Diwan and

Al-Azhar in Cairo, Egypt and in Department of Islamic Studies and Christian Muslim Relations and Islamic Chaplaincy at Hartford

Theological Seminary in Connecticut. During Women’s History Month 2014, Chaplain Ahmad was honored at the White House as a

leading Muslim female in the United States and recognized among top ten good Muslim stories of 2013.

Dr. Mohamed Abdul-Azeez is an imam, a writer and an advocate for youth work. He served as the religious leader of the SALAM

Islamic Center in Sacramento CA for 10 years, and is the founder and President of the Tarbiya Academy youth initiative. Imam Azeez

was educated in Medicine, political science, sociology, Islamic history and Islamic theology. He holds an MD from Ain Shams University,

a BA from Ohio State University, and an MA from University of Chicago.

Imam Azeez has been involved in Islamic activism and education for the past 20 years. He worked with and taught Islam at numerous

institutions from the Midwest to the West coast.

Imam Azeez has made dozens of media appearances, both local and national. He was interviewed on the Sacramento Bee, the

Sacramento News and Review, the Columbus Dispatch, and the Los Angeles Times. He made appearances on dozens of TV channels,

and was featured on CBS News.

Ustadh AbdelRahman Murphy is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Chicago, with a Bachelor’s in Teaching of English

and Religious Studies. He is currently pursuing his Master’s in Mental Health Counseling. He has served as a youth director, Muslim

chaplain, and assistant imam in a full-time capacity since 2009.

His Islamic studies background includes completing an Imam Certificate Program in Makkah, Saudi Arabia under the mentorship and

training of Shaykh Khalid Hilwany. While growing up in the Chicagoland area, he spent two years studying at Riyadh As Saliheen

Institute under Shaykhs Ehab Ash-Shaer and Abu Abdullah. While finishing his university studies, he benefitted directly from the

training and teaching of Professor Omer Mozaffar in areas of Quran and texts of Imam Ghazali. After graduating with his BA, Ustadh

AbdelRahman moved to Dallas, where he began reading classical texts with Shaykh AbdulNasir Jangda. In May of 2014, he formally

graduated from the Qalam Seminary’s one-year program.

Currently, he is continuing his study of the Quran and Imam Ghazali’s text with Professor Omer Mozaffar, and is working to complete

his coursework of the Dars-e-Nizami curriculum directly with Shaykh AbdulNasir Jangda.

Childcare services will be provided for ages 3-8 years old during the conference. Parents are encouraged to check-in with their kids throughout the day. Location: Kids (3-5yrs) will be on the 1st floor, whereas kids (5-8yrs) will be on the 2nd floor. Cost: Childcare charges are $10.00/kid for the conference.
