Einführung IntroductionDie Universität Hohenheim bietet einen Bache-lor- und verschiedene Master-Studiengänge in Agrarwissenschaften und verwandten Berei-chen an. Diese Broschüre beschreibt diese Programme und nennt alle angebotenen Modu-le. Die Regelungen welche und wie viele Mo-dule jeweils gewählt werden müssen, sind kurz beschrieben.

The University of Hohenheim offers one Bachelor and several Master programmes in agricultural and related sciences. This brochure briefly describes these programmes and serves as a catalogue of all the modules offered. The regulations on how many and which modules have to be chosen within a given specialisation or major are briefly depicted.

Jahresablauf

Academic calendarDie Vorlesungsperiode im WS beginnt in der 42. Kalenderwoche (KW) und endet in der 6. Woche des Folgejahres. Die Vorlesungsperio-de des SS umfasst die KW 14 bis 27. An die Vorlesungsperiode schließt sich ein jeweils dreiwöchiger Prüfungszeitraum an. Geblockte Module beginnen im WS mit Block 1 in der 42. KW, im SS mit Block 6 in der 14. KW (siehe S. 2).

In the WS courses begin in week 42 and end in week 6 of the new year. In the SS courses begin in week 14 and end in week 27. In each semester the lecture period is followed by an examination period of three weeks. Blocked modules of the WS begin in week 42 , those of the SS in week 14 (see page 2).

Programme Descriptions and Module Catalogue including Information on ECTS 7/2005 Die Geschichte der Universität Hohenheim beginnt im Jahre 1818, als am 20. November die "Landwirtschaftliche Unterrichts-, Ver-suchs- und Musteranstalt" eröffnet wird. Sitz dieser Einrichtung ist das Schloss Hohenheim, 1771 - 1793 unter Herzog Carl Eugen von Württemberg erbaut, das noch heute das Zent-rum der Universität bildet. Im Laufe des 19. Jahrhunderts wächst die "Land- und Forstwirt-schaftliche Akademie", wie die Einrichtung seit 1847 heißt, zur "Landwirtschaftlichen Hochschule" (1904). Zur Mitte des 19. Jahr-hunderts studieren über 100 junge Leute in Hohenheim, darunter ca. ein Drittel Ausländer.

The history of the University of Hohenheim begins in the year 1818, when on November 20th the "Landwirtschaftliche Unterrichts-, Versuchs- und Musteranstalt" is officially opened. This "Agricultural Academy" is located in Hohenheim Castle which has been built 1771 - 1793 under Duke Carl Eugen von Württemberg. This castle still is the university's center. During the 19th century the "Land- und Forstwirtschaftliche Akademie", as the institution is called since 1847, grows to be the "Landwirtschaftliche Hochschule" (Agricultural College, 1904). Around 1850 more than 100 young people are studying at Hohenheim, 1/3 of them being foreigners.

In den Jahren 1918 und 1919 erhält die Land-wirtschaftliche Hochschule das Promotions- und Habilitationsrecht, 1922 kommt eine Se-natsverfassung mit dem Element des Wahlrek-torats hinzu. Im Wintersemester 1922/23 gibt es erstmals 1.000 Studenten in Hohenheim.

In 1918 / 1919 the Agricultural College obtains the right to award doctoral degrees and the Habilitation. 1922 the structure of the school is reformed, the Senate as governing body and a Rector as the elected leader are introduced. 1922/23 is the first Academic Year with more than 1,000 students in Hohenheim.

Nach dem zweiten Weltkrieg werden neue Studienmöglichkeiten und Forschungs-schwerpunkte entwickelt, die aufbauend auf die Geschichte der Hochschule eine Uni-versität mit besonderem Profil entstehen las-sen. Seit 1967 führt die Hochschule den Na-men "Universität Hohenheim". An der Spitze der Universität steht der Rektor. Heute hat die Universität insgesamt ca. 4.700 Studierende, von denen ca. 480 aus dem Ausland stammen. Austauschstudierende von europäischen Part-nerhochschulen sind dabei ebenso vertreten wie Diplom- und Promotionskandidaten aus der ganzen Welt.

Following the Second World War new study programs and new points of emphasis in research are being developed. Building upon the tradition of Hohenheim a university with a very special profile is emerging. Since 1967 Hohenheim is bearing the name "Universität Hohenheim". Today the university is led by a rector. The University has approximately 4700 students, 480 of which are coming from other countries. Among them exchange students from European partner universities are represented as well as degree candidates from all over the world.

Hohenheim zeichnet sich durch seinen wun-derschönen Campus aus. Die Universität ist, abgesehen von einigen Stationen für die ag-rarwissenschaftliche Forschung, mit allen ihren Fakultäten und Instituten auf einem Campus am Stadtrand von Stuttgart angesiedelt. Das Schloss, die alten Parkanlagen und ein Botani-scher Garten bilden den Rahmen, in dem sich das wissenschaftliche Leben der Universität, zahlreiche sportliche Aktivitäten und ein inten-sives Kulturprogramm (Orchester, Chor usw.) abspielen. Das Stadtzentrum von Stuttgart ist

Apart from its high academic standards, Hohenheim stands out because of its beautiful campus. Except for some agricultural research stations the university is located with all its faculties and institutes on one central campus at the outskirts of Stuttgart. The castle, the old park and a modern Botanical Garden form the setting for the academic life of the university, numerous sportive activities, and an intense cultural program (orchestra, choir, etc.). The city centre of Stuttgart is approximately 12 kilometres away and easily accessible by

public transport. The residence halls for students are all located either on the campus or in its immediate neighbourhood.

Studiengebühren Tuition Fees Es ist damit zu rechnen, dass ab dem Winter-semester 2006/07 Studiengebühren erhoben werden. In Baden-Württemberg müssen Stu-dierende, die ihr Bildungsguthaben auf-gebraucht haben, bereits heute Studien-gebühren zahlen. Das Bildungsguthaben um-fasst im Bachelor die Semesterzahl der Regel-studienzeit plus vier Semester. Die Studienzei-ten für abgebrochene oder abgeschlossene Studiengänge werden angerechnet, d.h. sie dezimieren die über die Regelstudienzeit hi-nausgehenden gebührenfreien Semester ent-sprechend. Für konsekutive Bachelor und Mas-ter-Studiengänge ist die Summe der Regelstu-dienzeiten plus vier Semester gebührenfrei.

It is expected that starting with winter semester 2006/07 tuition fees will be charged. At present in the state of Baden-Württemberg tuition fees are charged only if you take more than four semesters more than the regular length of study to complete a Bachelor degree (if you have previously studied in another degree programme in Germany, those semesters are subtracted from the tuition free semesters). For Master programmes the length of the tuition free period is the regular length of study.

ECTS ECTSEinführung IntroductionECTS oder European Credit Transfer System ist die Bezeichnung für ein von europäischen Hochschulen entwickeltes System zur Aner-kennung von Studienleistungen. Ziel dieses Systems ist es, Darstellungsformen und Me-chanismen zu entwickeln, die die gegenseitige Anerkennung von Studienleistungen, also den "Transfer" von einer Hochschule zur anderen, erleichtern und so für einzelne Studierende Studienzeiten an Partnerhochschulen nutzbar machen. Das ECTS ist also ein rein deskripti-ves Instrument, das in keiner Weise in die Or-ganisation und die Inhalte einzelner Studien-gänge eingreift.

ECTS or European Credit Transfer System is the name of a system developed by European universities in order to facilitate the transfer of credits. The system strives to develop descriptive methods and mechanisms which make the mutual recognition of credits, grades, and examinations - or their "transfer" from one university to the other - easier. This shall help students to make better use of periods of study at partner institutions. Consequently the ECTS is a descriptive instrument only and does not influence the organisation or the contents of degree programs or curricula at all.

ECTS elements Die wichtigsten Elemente des ECTS sind The most important elements of the ECTS are

• Informationsbroschüren wie die hier vorlie-gende mit detaillierten Beschreibungen von Studiengängen und Lehrveranstaltungen als Hilfsmittel für ausländische Studierende und deren Heimathochschulen bei der Pla-nung von Auslandsaufenthalten

• die Vergabe von Anrechnungspunkten (credits) für jede einzelne Lehrveran-staltung, basierend auf dem europaweit ein-heitlichen Maß von 60 credits für die mit dem Studium verbundene Arbeitsbelastung eines Studierenden während eines Jahres

• Information Packages like this one giving detailed descriptions of degree programs and courses as a means of support for foreign students and their home universities during the phase of planning a study abroad period

• the distribution of credits ("ECTS-Credits") for individual courses, based on the uniform European scale with 60 credits for the workload of a full-time student during one Academic Year (or 30 credits per semester)

(bzw. 30 credits pro Semester)

• der Nachweis der an der Gasthochschule absolvierten Lehrveranstaltungen mit An-gabe der Credits und der erzielten Noten durch eine sogenannte Datenabschrift ("transcript") für die Heimathochschule

• a transcript listing all courses taken and completed at the host university with their credit points and the grades for the home university (to be handed out to the student)

Gaststudierende

Visiting StudentsGaststudenten, die nicht den Hohenheimer B.Sc. oder M.Sc. erwerben wollen, sondern nur zeitweise in Hohenheim studieren, können relativ frei entscheiden, welche Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen sie in ihrer Zeit in Hohen-heim erbringen möchten. Die Regelungen zur Belegung bestimmter Module und viele andere Aspekte der Prüfungsordnung gelten nicht zwangsläufig auch für diese Gaststudenten.

Visiting students, i.e. students who are not regularly enrolled in the degree programmes but are spending only several months at Hohenheim, have much freedom as to which courses they choose to attend and which examinations to take. The regulations described above as to which compulsory or elective modules need to be taken do not necessarily apply to them.

Die Fakultät Agrarwissenschaften empfehlt den Gaststudenten, möglichst vollständige Module zu belegen, da dann gewährleistet ist, dass ihnen erstens ein abgerundetes Lehrange-bot vermittelt wird und sie zweitens auch eine Prüfung ablegen können. Wenn nur Unterein-heiten der Module, also einzelne Lehrveran-staltungen belegt werden, dann kann eine Prü-fung, die sich eben nur auf die Inhalte der be-suchten Lehrveranstaltungen bezieht, nur mit Einverständnis des für die Lehrveranstaltung verantwortlichen Dozenten stattfinden.

Visiting students are advised to take complete modules rather than parts of modules only, because that way they will learn a well rounded study content. Furthermore, they can be certain that they can participate in the examination for that module. If only certain parts of the module, i.e. individual courses, are attended, then the examination should only cover the contents actually studied. In that case the lecturer should be asked beforehand whether he or she is willing to hold a special examination for the visiting student.

Gaststudenten sollten vor ihrer Ankunft in Hohenheim eine möglichst konkrete Vorstel-lung davon haben, was sie in Hohenheim stu-dieren möchten. Der oder die Betreuer/in an der Heimathochschule kann dann klären, ob und in welchem Umfang in Hohenheim er-brachte Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen aner-kannt werden können.

Before coming to Hohenheim the visiting student should have a fairly clear understanding of what he or she wants to study here. Then the advisor at the home institution is in a better position to determine which courses and how many credits can be transferred towards the degree at the home institution.

Für die Zulassung als Gaststudent gilt ein ein-facheres Verfahren (Auskünfte erteilt das Aka-demische Auslandsamt). Die DSH muss nicht abgelegt werden, gute Deutschkenntnisse sind jedoch sehr zu empfehlen.

The admission requirements and process for visiting students are simpler than for degree students. The DSH examination is not required. However, good German language skills are strongly recommended.

You will find this booklet in the International Office of your university or at the SOCRATES/ERASMUS Office. Studentenwohnheime Residence Halls Das Akademische Auslandsamt bemüht sich, für alle Austauschteilnehmer und -teilneh-merinnen Zimmer in einem Hohenheimer Wohnheim zu besorgen. Wichtig ist, dass die Zimmer grundsätzlich für 6 Monate (entweder April - September oder Oktober - März) ge-mietet werden müssen. Eventuell können die Zimmer über die Ferienvermietung unterver-mietet werden (siehe "Willkommen in Hohen-heim"), die Verantwortung für die Mietzah-lung bleibt aber bei dem jeweiligen Aus-tauschstudenten.

The Akademisches Auslandsamt (Office of International Relations) always tries to secure a dormitory room for each exchange participant. It is highly important that the rooms always must be rented for a period of 6 months (April - September or October - March). The possibility exists to sub-let the room for the time of the so-called "Semesterferien" (breaks or recess - see the "Practical Guide"). The responsibility for the rent, however, will rest with the individual exchange student who has rented the room in the beginning.

Sprachkurse Language CoursesDas Sprachenzentrum der Universität Hohen-heim bietet in jedem Semester Kurse "Deutsch für Ausländer" an. Bachelor Degree Programme in Agricultural Sciences

Zielsetzung

ObjectivesZiel des Bachelor-Studienganges in Agrarwis-senschaften ist es, eine breite wissenschaftliche und auch praxisnahe, berufsqualifizierende Ausbildung in Agrarwissenschaften zu vermit-teln.

The objective of the Bachelor degree programme is to offer broadly based, scientifically as well as practically oriented training in Agricultural Sciences.

Absolventen oder Absolventinnen beherrschen die Grundlagen der Agrarwissenschaften und überblicken die Zusammenhänge der agrarwis-senschaftlichen Fachdisziplinen. Sie beherr-schen die Grundlagen der gewählten Vertie-fungsrichtung und haben damit die methodi-schen und praktischen Fähigkeiten erworben, um in verschiedenen Berufsfeldern tätig sein zu können.

Graduates of the Bachelor programme have a good command of the basic disciplines in Agricultural Sciences. They understand the interrelationships between these disciplines. They are proficient in the basics of the selected major and have acquired the methodological and practical skills to be able to work in various vocational fields.

Der „Bachelor of Science“ Abschluss bietet die Möglichkeit, bereits nach drei Jahren akademi-schen Studiums in den Beruf einzusteigen oder ein Master-Studium aufzunehmen.

The Bachelor of Science degree offers the possibility to start working after three years of academic studies or to continue with a Master programme straight away.

Zulassung zum regulären Studium

Admission as a degree studentZulassungsvoraussetzung ist die allgemeine oder eine einschlägige fachgebundene Hoch-schulreife. Ausländische Studienbewerber müssen Zeugnisse vorlegen, die einer deut-schen Hochschulreife äquivalent sind. Für die Bewertung ausländischer Zeugnisse ist das Akademische Auslandsamt zuständig. Außer-dem müssen ausländische Studienbewerber die Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzu-gang, DSH, bestanden haben.

In order to be admitted to the degree programme, applicants must have the “Allgemeine” or “fachgebundene Hochschulreife". Foreign applicants must give proof of a comparable high school diploma. Foreign diplomas are evaluated by the Office of International Relations. Foreign applicants must also give proof of sufficient German language skills (DSH examination).

Studienaufbau

Programme structure Das Studium ist auf eine Regelstudienzeit von sechs Fachsemestern ausgelegt. Es gliedert sich in das zweijährige Grundstudium und das einjährige Vertiefungsstudium.

The Bachelor programme is laid out for six semesters of full-time study. It consists of the two-year Grundstudium (basic studies) and the one-year Vertiefungsstudium (specialisation).

Module

ModulesDas Studium ist modular aufgebaut. Ein(e) Vollzeitstudierende(r) belegt in der Regel fünf Module pro Semester.

The programme follows a modular course structure. A full time student completes five modules in each semester.

Grundstudium

Basic studiesIn den ersten beiden Studienjahren werden naturwissenschaftliche, wirtschafts- und sozial-wissenschaftliche, sowie die agrarwissen-schaftlichen Grundlagen vermittelt.

Vertiefungsstudium

Specialisation studiesIm zweiten Studienabschnitt, dem Vertiefungs-studium, entscheiden sich die Studierenden für eine der folgenden fünf Vertiefungsrichtungen:

Studienarbeit

Study thesisIn einem der im Vertiefungsstudium belegten Module muss eine Studienarbeit erstellt wer-den. Die Studienarbeit soll zeigen, dass die zu prüfende Person in der Lage ist, innerhalb ei-ner gegebenen Frist ein eng umgrenztes Prob-lem mit wissenschaftlichen Methoden zu bear-beiten.

A study thesis must be written on a topic from one of the compulsory or elective modules taken. By successfully completing this paper, the student demonstrates that he/she is able to work on a narrowly defined problem using scientific methodology.

Sie besteht aus einem schriftlichen Teil (Ar-beit) und einem mündlichen Teil (Verteidi-gung). In der Regel wird das sechste Studien-semester für die Anfertigung der Studienarbeit genutzt. Für die Studienarbeit werden 12 cre-dits vergeben.

Leistungspunktesystem

Credit point systemFür das mit jedem Modul verbunden Arbeits-pensum ('workload') werden sechs 'credits' vergeben. Damit umfasst das Bachelor-Studium insgesamt 180 'credits'.

With each completed module the students earn 6 credits for the workload associated with each module. The Bachelor programme has a requirement of 180 credits in total.

In jedem Modul ist studienbegleitend eine Prüfung abzulegen. Jede Prüfung wird mit den erreichten 'grade points' (Note in Zahlen) be-wertet. Die höchste Punktzahl ist 4,0. Eine Prüfung gilt als bestanden, wenn mindestens 1,0 'grade points' erzielt wurden.

Each module is examined upon completion, i.e. before the beginning of the next semester. The examination result is expressed in grade points. The highest score is 4.0. A score of 1.0 is required for passing.

Absolventen und Absolventinnen des Master-Studienganges überblicken die Zusammenhän-ge der gewählten Fachrichtung. Sie sind in der Lage, tiefergehende wissenschaftliche Metho-den und Erkenntnisse anzuwenden, um als Wissenschaftler bzw. Wissenschaftlerinnen und Führungskräfte in vielfältigen Berufsfel-dern tätig sein zu können. Der Master-Abschluss ist einem universitären Diplom-Abschluss mindestens gleichwertig.

Graduates of the Master programme understand the interrelationships within the elected major. They are able to apply specialised scientific knowledge and methodology in order to be able to work as scientists and executives in various vocational fields. The Master of Science degree is at least equivalent to a German Diplom degree from a research university.

Zulassung zum regulären Studium

Admission as a degree studentZum Studium zugelassen werden Absolventen und Absolventinnen mit überdurchschnittli-chem Abschluss eines Bachelor-Studienganges in Agrarwissenschaften im In- und Ausland oder einem als gleichwertig anerkannten aka-demischen Abschluss. Unter bestimmten Vor-aussetzungen können auch Absolventen und Absolventinnen aus nicht verwandten Studien-gängen für einzelne Fachrichtungen zugelassen werden. Ausländische Studienbewerber müs-sen die Deutsche Sprachprüfung für den Hoch-schulzugang, DSH, bestanden haben.

An above average total grade in a Bachelor degree in Agriculture Sciences acquired either in Germany or abroad is required for admission to the Master programme. Degrees comparable to a Bachelor degree may be recognised under certain conditions. In certain cases students with a degree in a field other than Agricultural Sciences can be admitted to a specific major. Foreign applicants must give proof of sufficient German language skills (DSH examination).

Einige Module werden geblockt über einen dreieinhalbwöchigen Zeit-raum, andere ungeblockt über den Verlauf eines Semesters angeboten.

The programme follows a modular course structure. A full time student completes five modules per semester. Some modules are offered as blocked courses lasting three and a half weeks. Others are not blocked and thus last the full length of the semester.

Jedes Modul umfasst 4 SWS und kann aus einer oder mehreren Lehrveranstaltungen (z.B. Vorlesungen, Übungen, Praktika, Seminare und Exkursionen) bestehen.

Each module consists of 4 contact hours per week (SWS). It can consist of one or more courses (e.g., lectures, exercises, practical courses, seminars and field trips).

Im Verlauf der zwei Studienjahre müssen 15 Module erfolgreich absolviert werden. Für die Wählbarkeit von Modulen sind unterschiedli-che fachrichtungsspezifische Lösungen vor-gegeben, die auf der jeweils ersten Seite der Beschreibungen der Module der jeweiligen Fachrichtung beschrieben sind.

Over the course of two years 15 modules must be completed successfully. There are specific regulations within each major as to which modules are compulsory and which are elective. These regulations are described on the first page of the module descriptions of the respective major.

Master-Thesis

Master thesisIn einem der belegten Module muss eine Mas-ter-Thesis erstellt werden. Die Thesis soll zei-gen, dass der/die Studierende in der Lage ist, innerhalb einer gegebenen Frist ein Problem aus einem Gebiet der Agrarwissenschaften selbständig nach wissenschaftlichen Methoden zu bearbeiten.

A Master thesis must be written on a topic from one of the compulsory or elective modules elected. The thesis should show that the student is able to independently work on a problem in Agricultural Sciences using scientific methodology.

Sie besteht aus einem schriftlichen Teil (Ar-beit) und einem mündlichen Teil (Verteidi-gung). In der Regel wird das vierte Studiense-mester für die Anfertigung der Thesis genutzt.

The thesis consists of a written section (printed thesis text) and a verbal section (defence). Usually the fourth semester is used to prepare the thesis.

Leistungspunktesystem

Credit point systemFür das mit jedem Modul verbunden Arbeits-pensum ('workload') werden 6 'credits' verge-ben. Für die Master-Thesis werden 30 'credits' vergeben. Damit umfasst das Master-Studium insgesamt 120 'credits'.

With each completed module the student earns 6 credits for the workload associated with each module. The Master thesis carries a weight of 30 credits. The Master programme has a requirement of 120 credits in total.

In jedem Modul ist studienbegleitend eine Prüfung abzulegen. Jede Prüfung wird mit den erreichten 'grade points' (Note in Zahlen) be-wertet. Die höchste Punktzahl ist 4,0. Eine Prüfung gilt als bestanden, wenn mindestens 1,0 'grade points' erzielt wurden.

Each module is examined upon completion, i.e. before the beginning of the next semester. The examination result is expressed in grade points. The highest score is 4.0. A score of 1.0 is required for passing.

Abschluss

DegreeSind die Module des Master-Studiums sowie die Master-Thesis bestanden, verleihen die zuständigen Fakultäten den Grad „Master of Science“ (M.Sc.). Dieser Abschluss berechtigt – Überdurchschnittlichkeit vorausgesetzt – zur Promotion.

After successful completion of all modules as well as the thesis, the student is awarded the degree "Master of Science" (M.Sc.). This degree entitles the student to continuing with a doctoral programme if the total grade is above average.

Module, Semester und Arbeitspensum Modules, semester and work loadEin Modul setzt sich aus 4 SWS (Semester-wochenstunden) zusammen. Dies sind 56 Kontaktstunden pro Semester und setzt min-destens noch einmal soviel Vor- und Nachar-beit voraus, so dass sich ein Arbeitspensum von etwa 140-180 Stunden ergibt. Ein Modul entspricht 6 ECTS-Credits. Ein(e) Vollzeit-studierende(r) belegt fünf Module pro Semes-ter. Ein Semester dauert 14 Wochen (sowohl das Winter- wie auch das Sommersemester).

One module has 4 SWS (contact hours per week per semester), totalling 56 contact hours, and in addition at least the same time for preparation at home, summing up to a total work load of about 140-180 hours for one module. One module is equal to 6 ECTS-credits. A full time student completes five modules per semester. One semester lasts 14 weeks (during the winter semester as well as during the summer semester).

Der Master-Studiengang “Agricultural Scien-ces, Food Security and Natural Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics” wird in englischer Sprache durchgeführt. Die Studierenden lernen die immer komplexer werdenden agrarischen und ökologischen Sys-teme zu verstehen und zu steuern, um so auf effektive und nachhaltige Weise mehr Nahrung zu erzeugen.

The Master programme, M.Sc. in “Agricultural Sciences, Food Security and Natural Resource Management in the Tropics and Subtropics”, is held entirely in English. The Programme is designed to train students to understand and manage ever more complex and diverse agricultural and ecological systems so we can provide more food in an efficient and sustainable way.

Zum Studium zugelassen werden Absolventen und Absolventinnen mit überdurchschnitt-lichem Abschluss eines Bachelor-Studien-ganges in Agrarwissenschaften oder einem verwandten Studiengang im In- und Ausland oder einem als gleichwertig anerkannten aka-demischen Abschluss. Für die Bewertung aus-ländischer Zeugnisse ist das Akademische Auslandsamt zuständig. Zur Zulassung muss ein Nachweis englischer Sprachkenntnisse, vorliegen.

An above average total grade in a Bachelor degree in Agriculture Sciences or a related field acquired either in Germany or abroad is required for admission to the Master programme. Degrees comparable to a Bachelor degree may be recognised under certain conditions. Foreign diplomas are evaluated by the Office of International Relations. Proof of English language proficiency (e.g. TOEFL) must be handed in with the application.

Der Masterstudiengang “Environmental Pro-tection and Food Production” (ENVIRO-FOOD) beschäftigt sich mit den Wechsel-beziehungen innerhalb von Agrarökosystemen und den Konsequenzen einer Intensivierung der landwirtschaftlichen Produktion. Durch das interdisziplinäre Lehrangebot wird die Lücke geschlossen zwischen Umweltschutz und der Sicherung von Ernährungsquantität und -qualität. Die sieben Pflichtmodule (FG) wer-den in englischer Sprache abgehalten. Im Wahlbereich (WG) gibt es sowohl englisch- als auch deutschsprachige Module.

The Master Degree programme in “Environ-mental Protection and Food Production” (ENVIROFOOD) deals with agroecosystems’ varied interrelations and the consequences of intensification of agricultural production. It provides interdisciplinary training on how to bridge the gap between protecting the environment and securing food quantity and quality. The seven compulsory modules (FG) are held in English. Among the elective modules (WG) some are held in German, others in English.

Ziel des Master-Studienganges Agribusiness ist es, eine vertiefte ökonomische und agrar-wissenschaftliche Ausbildung im Bereich des Agribusiness zu vermitteln. Die Lehrveranstal-tungen werden gemeinsam von der agrarwis-senschaftlichen und der wirtschaftswissen-schaftlichen Fakultät der Universität angebo-ten.

The degree programme “Master of Agribusiness” combines and deepens agricultural and economic issues within the area of Agribusiness. The courses are a joint offer of the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences and the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hohenheim.

Die Pflicht- und Wahlmodule werden in deut-scher Sprache abgehalten. Die Module der anderen in dieser Broschüre aufgeführten Mas-ter-Programme können bei Zustimmung des Prüfungsausschusses profilbildend als Wahl-module belegt werden.

Master Degree Programme

“Organic Food Chain Management”

Ökologische Landwirtschaft basiert auf einem ganzheitlichen Denkansatz, somit erfordert auch die Verarbeitung und Vermarktung öko-logisch erzeugter Produkte besondere Kennt-nisse und Fähigkeiten. Durch den weltweit wachsenden Markt für ökologische Nahrungs-mittel gibt es einen Bedarf an Experten im „or-ganic food chain management“ von der Nah-rungserzeugung, über die Lebensmitteltech-nologie bis zur Qualitätskontrolle. Um diese Nachfrage zu befriedigen, hat die Universität Hohenheim das M.Sc. Programm “Organic Food Chain Management” entwickelt.

Organic farming is based on a holistic approach and the processing and marketing of organically grown food requires special skills and knowledge. As the market for organic products is a growing sector on a world wide scale, there is a need for experts providing knowledge on organic food chain management including primary food production, food technology and quality control. To meet this demand, the University of Hohenheim has developed the M. Sc. Programme “Organic Food Chain Management”.

Zum Studium zugelassen werden Absolventen und Absolventinnen mit überdurchschnitt-lichem Abschluss eines Bachelor-Studien-ganges in Agrarwissenschaften oder einer ver-wandten oder ähnlichen Disziplin im In- und Ausland oder einem als gleichwertig anerkann-ten akademischen Abschluss. Für die Bewer-tung ausländischer Zeugnisse ist das Akademi-sche Auslandsamt zuständig. Außerdem müs-sen ausländische Studienbewerber die Deut-sche Sprachprüfung für den Hochschulzugang, DSH, bestanden haben.

An above average total grade in a Bachelor degree in Agriculture Sciences or a related or similar subject acquired either in Germany or abroad is required for admission to the Master programme. Degrees comparable to a Bachelor degree may be recognised under certain conditions. Foreign diplomas are evaluated by the Office of International Relations. Foreign applicants must also give proof of sufficient German language skills (DSH examination).
