PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

The interior of 36 College Road was renovated for the Division of University Mission and Ministry to use as a gathering space. Provided was new carpet and paint throughout the interior of the house. A new spiritual direction room was created by enclosing space in the Garden Level and installing a new door with a vision panel. Two new Consult Rooms were created on the first floor. Closets were removed in the First Floor main entry vestibule that were damaged by water infiltration.

The work of the renovation consisted of the demolition of the existing moveable partition, the ceiling, lighting and carpet. Included in the project was a new ceiling with LED lighting that allows for multiple switching and dimming scenarios. A new audio-visual system was installed with a new credenza for the equipment, new millwork covers to conceal the HVAC units at the windows, new cabinets for room storage, a new counter for serving food, and new doors with view windows. The new finishes included new windowsills, carpeting, restoring the existing wood wainscot paneling, and painting the walls. The existing furniture was removed and new furniture that allows the LSOE maximum flexibility and layout options were purchased by the department.

The scope of the work included the replacement, reconfiguration, and addition of new millwork lockers, a new entrance location, and a new ceiling and lighting. A new AV system was installed along with appropriate network services, as well as new signage and graphics.

The Resident Director Apartment Renovation is an expansion of the current RD apartment from Duchesne East 234 to include Duchesne East 200. The project included demolition of current apartment, moving and upgrading the kitchen, enlarging the living room, and creating a laundry closet and a larger bed room. It also involved the walling off of the corridor to create an interior hallway to the new bed room. There was an additional air conditioning unit installed and all new finishes upgraded throughout.

The existing Lynch Conference Room Lobby was divided into two spaces, a new faculty conference room and smaller lobby area, by installing a new sound attenuated movable wall partition. When the movable wall partition is opened, the entire area exists for large seminar and reception events. When the movable wall partition is closed, a new faculty conference room is created. A white board was installed on the new movable wall (conference side only). A new flat panel TV monitor was installed along with new furniture. Also, an alcove space on the 5th floor was renovated/converted into a new office and storage room.

The work of the project consisted of the demolition of the existing walls, ceilings, and the removal of all finishes. The new construction included walls and doors to provide four new CSOM faculty offices, one new storage room, as well as a common area for a conference table, support staff workstation and a waiting area. The project included a mechanical design for a new air handling distribution system and a new sprinkler layout, coordinated with the new ceilings and LED lighting. New office furniture was placed in all rooms, provided for by the department.

The Biology Department submitted A&R 3727513 for the conversion of two of their Advanced Teaching Labs (Labs 350 & 360) on the 3rd floor of Higgins Hall to be converted to Biology Research Labs and needed support space, for new prospective faculty hires, as well as accommodating three additional faculty offices. The scope included the relocation of entrances into the space, re-configuring the interior space to accommodate research intensive work, and provide appropriate support space needed for the labs. Associated with this project was the elimination of the corridor adjacent to these two labs in order to maximize more programmable space.

DiBartolo Lab Relocation - Lab 165

This project involved the relocation of Physics Researcher Professor Di Bartolo from Higgins Lab 125 to new location - Lab 165. To open up the space, a wall was removed between 165 & 165A. The epoxy floor was prepped to receive new VCT flooring. The exposed ceiling in the room formally known as 165A was painted to match the main lab, and the case work in 165A & B was reused. The dark room was converted to a new office. The space was also painted and a new fixed viewing window was installed. Also, lab equipment including optical tables and lasers from lab 125 were relocated to the new lab space.

Folker Lab Renovations - Lab 580

The Biology Department submitted A&R 4562513 for new Biology faculty hire, Dr. Eric Folker. The scope of work was for the accommodation of a new laser scanning confocal microscope in imaging room 580A, and minor modifications to tissue culture room 580B. Lab 580 had one of the existing lab benches raised, and modest modifications to some of the existing cabinetry and shelving. Associated with this A&R was also the elimination of the wall between labs 580 and 590, creating one large sized lab to be shared with another faculty member. Work included providing a new lab bench and other changes needed as a result of of the elimination of the wall between the two labs.

An A&R was submitted for new Biology faculty hire, Dr. Laura Lowery. The scope of work was for the accommodation of a new spinning disk confocal microscope in support room 430A, and minor modifications to tissue culture room 430B. Lab 430 had foot pedal operators installed to all existing sinks, and modest modifications to some of the existing cabinetry. Associated with this A&R was also the elimination of the wall between labs 430 and 440, creating one large sized lab to be shared with another faculty member. Animal Care Facility Frog Room 1906 also required modest electrical work to accommodate Dr. Lowery’s equipment.

The Psychology Department submitted A&R 5249314 for the renovation of Animal Care Facility Procedure Room 1907C in Higgins Hall for new faculty hire, Dr. Mike McDannald, in order to accommodate his research with two new surgical stations. The scope of work included sealing off one of the doors into the room, alterations to an existing stainless steel bench, removal and capping of a sink, and providing cylinder brackets, along with other minor changes.

Naughton Lab Clean Bench Area

The new enclosed 250 sq ft. Servicor Modular Cleanroom 150E exists within Lab 150. The “clean bench” construction was created for a joint research program with the Biology Department to house specialized equipment providing appropriate conditions for processing samples. The special enclosed structure includes new door and glass wall construction, new bench work, shelving with new sink, and the existing 6-ft fume hood within the space remaining. The existing walls were painted, the ACT & ceiling grid were removed including light fixtures. The new clean room structure comes with its own ceiling and lighting and connects to the building's HVAC system with 2x4 HEPA filters providing the proper conditions for research.

Padilla Lab Expansion - Lab 135

Dr. Padilla had a number of funded projects based on metamaterial imaging, including a recently awarded NSF grant. This project required additional lab space to house new research equipment for a new imaging lab. The scope of work in Lab 135 included building an office space into the room as well as a closet for vacuum pumps. Vacuum lines run from the pump closet to the center of the room to an overhead uni-strut system. New Optical tables are part of the newly installed equipment, set in the center of the lab. New casework was built along the outer lab walls and a new sink and bench top, installed in existing casework. The project also involved moving the X-Ray Diffraction Instrument from room 135 to room 157.

Dining Services requested that it be upgraded and given a new look for the students use. The scope of work included replacing outdated millwork counters and equipment, providing new flooring, adding a new ceiling and LED lighting throughout the space, painting, and providing improvements for traffic flow. Also included are new digital signage board and POS stations.

The Graduate School of Social Work Doctoral Lounge Renovation involved the demolition of ceiling and lighting, removal of carpet, replacement of glass in end wall panels, and installation of new doors with glass. A new entrance was opened up to an adjacent office from the corridor, and a half dozen lockers were removed. The carpet was replaced with new VCT with multicolored pattern and finishes were upgraded with a new ceiling with LED lighting. New furniture had been purchased previously by the department.

The Chemistry Department submitted an A&R for new faculty hire, Dr. Shih-Yuan Liu. The scope of work was completed in two phases. The first phase included relocating Stock Room 011 into 009, and converting 011 into a double glove box room. Work included providing a new epoxy floor in 011, re-use of existing shelving for stock room, relocation of the dispensing window in 011, and modest HVAC, plumbing and electrical work. Modest improvements to office space 033A were made as well. This A&R also required a second phase of work in order to accommodate Dr. Liu’s move into his permanent Lab space – 013. This second phase of work included converting lab support room 013A into another glove box room.

Three new system furniture workstations were also installed.

The St. Mary's Renovation project involved a complete interior renovation, as well as full exterior renewal and restoration, including the complete replacement of over 150,000 cast stone elements. The building is sectioned into two distinct occupancies: a residential component for the Jesuit community and an academic component for Boston College use. The residential program consists of 33 bedrooms including guest rooms, all with private baths. The common areas include full kitchen, dining, recreation, a main chapel on the first floor, and a separate community chapel. The BC program includes offices for three academic departments: Communications, Computer Science, and the Woods College of Advancing Studies.

The Football Athletic Recruiting/ Video room in the third floor the the Yawkey Athletics Center was enlarged to handle multiple recruits and their families as well as providing a space for entertaining and hosting recruiting dinners. The project required the removal of the wall dividing rooms 323 & 324 and the development of an office space currently associated with room 323A. In addition, the Athletic Recruit/Workroom (322) was reconfigured to accommodate space for two staff members and four Graduate Assistants while providing an area for the storage and processing of football recruiting materials.
