The work of the renovation consisted of the demolition of the existing moveable partition, the ceiling, lighting and carpet. Included in the project was a new ceiling with LED lighting that allows for multiple switching and dimming scenarios. A new audio-visual system was installed with a new credenza for the equipment, new millwork covers to conceal the HVAC units at the windows, new cabinets for room storage, a new counter for serving food, and new doors with view windows. The new finishes included new windowsills, carpeting, restoring the existing wood wainscot paneling, and painting the walls. The existing furniture was removed and new furniture that allows the LSOE maximum flexibility and layout options were purchased by the department.

The existing Lynch Conference Room Lobby was divided into two spaces, a new faculty conference room and smaller lobby area, by installing a new sound attenuated movable wall partition. When the movable wall partition is opened, the entire area exists for large seminar and reception events. When the movable wall partition is closed, a new faculty conference room is created. A white board was installed on the new movable wall (conference side only). A new flat panel TV monitor was installed along with new furniture. Also, an alcove space on the 5th floor was renovated/converted into a new office and storage room.

This project involved the relocation of Physics Researcher Professor Di Bartolo from Higgins Lab 125 to new location - Lab 165. To open up the space, a wall was removed between 165 & 165A. The epoxy floor was prepped to receive new VCT flooring. The exposed ceiling in the room formally known as 165A was painted to match the main lab, and the case work in 165A & B was reused. The dark room was converted to a new office. The space was also painted and a new fixed viewing window was installed. Also, lab equipment including optical tables and lasers from lab 125 were relocated to the new lab space.

The Biology Department submitted A&R 4562513 for new Biology faculty hire, Dr. Eric Folker. The scope of work was for the accommodation of a new laser scanning confocal microscope in imaging room 580A, and minor modifications to tissue culture room 580B. Lab 580 had one of the existing lab benches raised, and modest modifications to some of the existing cabinetry and shelving. Associated with this A&R was also the elimination of the wall between labs 580 and 590, creating one large sized lab to be shared with another faculty member. Work included providing a new lab bench and other changes needed as a result of of the elimination of the wall between the two labs.

The scope of work was for the accommodation of a new spinning disk confocal microscope in support room 430A, and minor modifications to tissue culture room 430B. Lab 430 had foot pedal operators installed to all existing sinks, and modest modifications to some of the existing cabinetry. Associated with this A&R was also the elimination of the wall between labs 430 and 440, creating one large sized lab to be shared with another faculty member. Animal Care Facility Frog Room 1906 also required modest electrical work to accommodate Dr. Lowery’s equipment.

The new enclosed 250 sq ft. Servicor Modular Cleanroom 150E exists within Lab 150. The “clean bench” construction was created for a joint research program with the Biology Department to house specialized equipment providing appropriate conditions for processing samples. The special enclosed structure includes new door and glass wall construction, new bench work, shelving with new sink, and the existing 6-ft fume hood within the space remaining. The existing walls were painted, the ACT & ceiling grid were removed including light fixtures. The new clean room structure comes with its own ceiling and lighting and connects to the building's HVAC system with 2x4 HEPA filters providing the proper conditions for research.

Dr. Padilla had a number of funded projects based on metamaterial imaging, including a recently awarded NSF grant. This project required additional lab space to house new research equipment for a new imaging lab. The scope of work in Lab 135 included building an office space into the room as well as a closet for vacuum pumps. Vacuum lines run from the pump closet to the center of the room to an overhead uni-strut system. New Optical tables are part of the newly installed equipment, set in the center of the lab. New casework was built along the outer lab walls and a new sink and bench top, installed in existing casework. The project also involved moving the X-Ray Diffraction Instrument from room 135 to room 157.

Work included providing a new epoxy floor in 011, re-use of existing shelving for stock room, relocation of the dispensing window in 011, and modest HVAC, plumbing and electrical work. Modest improvements to office space 033A were made as well. This A&R also required a second phase of work in order to accommodate Dr. Liu’s move into his permanent Lab space – 013. Student Affairs requested the conversion of sixteen existing triples with bathrooms into sophomore quads by eliminating the bathrooms and adding the fourth bed to each room. The work was completed in three residence halls on College Road: Welch, Roncalli, and Williams Halls. The Football Athletic Recruiting/ Video room in the third floor the the Yawkey Athletics Center was enlarged to handle multiple recruits and their families as well as providing a space for entertaining and hosting recruiting dinners. The project required the removal of the wall dividing rooms 323 & 324 and the development of an office space currently associated with room 323A. In addition, the Athletic Recruit/Workroom (322) was reconfigured to accommodate space for two staff members and four Graduate Assistants while providing an area for the storage and processing of football recruiting materials.
