APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ)

Overview The APM Project Fundamentals Qualification is an entry level qualification suitable for anyone with an interest in Project Management. Participants may be starting out in a career in Project Management or simply working to benchmark their knowledge in a recognisable form. The course topics are geared towards breadth rather than depth, as required by the Introductory Certificate syllabus, and are designed to improve knowledge and awareness.

ObjectivesBy the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

Understand Project Management terminology• Identify PM processes and terminology• Describe the various breakdown structures that are used in PM• Understand Planning and Control• Describe the main processes of Risk Management• Define requirements for Project Change Management• Understand how to manage Project Stakeholders• Have gained sufficient knowledge to pass the APM Introductory Certificate in Project Management.•

DurationThe course is 2 days and includes the PFQ examination on Day 2 and is also available as distance learning.

AttendeesAnyone, regardless of experience or background, who wants to gain a general overview of the principles of Project Management as set out in the APM’s Body of Knowledge, and those wishing to sit, and pass, the Introductory Certificate Exam. It can also be used as a refresher for those wishing to gain the PMQ qualification as it will help gain an understanding of the APM’s terms and definitions.

PFQ ExamThe PFQ examination consists of 60 multiple choice questions which candidates must complete within 1 hour.

APM Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) - OnlineThe PFQ course work takes to complete is entirely up to the individual but the certificate can be completed in 12 -16 hours. However, you may prefer to do a module a day or set yourself a target to complete four modules in a week.

ExamCandidates now have the option of sitting the APM Introductory Certificate examination online once they have studied the online material, at a convenient time and place. All you require is a high speed internet connection, webcam and microphone.

Why should I study online?E-learning allows candidates to learn anytime, anywhere. Taking an online e-learning course, as opposed to a “traditional” classroom based course has significant advantages. Lower costs – saves on all incidental costs associated with training courses such as travel and hotel expenses

“Just to update you that I have completed the APM (IC) training package and passed my online exam. I would like to thank you for all your help and furthermore say that your

training materials are really helpful (this coming from a fellow trainer). Once again thanks for an enjoyable training experience”

Strategic Project Management

Overview This highly intensive 5-day course deals with all aspects of Project Management in greenfield and brownfield environments. It combines theory and practice of key skills in a programme to develop and improve the delegate’s performance in a Project Management team where the work scope may include Capital, Operations and Maintenance Projects. Personnel working in the engineering contracting industry will in many cases be called upon to construct a Project Execution Plan and make a bid for funds to conduct a project. This course provides delegates with the necessary knowledge and skills to achieve this by following the key stages of a simulated large-scale project. In addition, the course format enables them to consider and solve the strategic issues relevant to projects and their performance for organisations.

ObjectivesBy the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

Understand the main strategic aspects of Project Management in a combination of theory and practice by • simulated management of a project case studyDevelop and use the project execution plan to win, measure and control a project for a company• Improve Leadership Skills and their contribution to Project Management performance• Appreciate how Risk and Sensitivity Analysis is developed and used in the improved planning and management of • a projectDevelop and use contract and procurement strategy to improve the performance of the project and business.• Prepare a Project Execution Plan (Project Management Plan)• Focus on the relevant issues relating to gaining project approval and funding• Understand how Value Management & Value Engineering can be used to improve the project• Use Constructability practices to improve efficiency Improve their Project Management performance in a variety of • client or contractor situations

DurationThe course is five days and begins at 8:30 AM. Please note that delegates should expect to continue working on the course during the evenings, and earlier starts may be required on subsequent mornings.

AttendeesThe course is aimed at delegates who have previously attended the Operational, and Principles courses, and also at Project Managers with experience in managing projects and wish to gain exposure to more advanced and strategic methods and approaches.

SessionsThe sessions cover all aspects of Project Management. The principles are reviewed and reinforced through a combination of structured and interactive exercises linked to the development of a major case study. Delegates apply what they learn in this realistic preparation of a project execution plan, performing roles within the project team. At the end of the course, delegates are required, as part of a team to present their project execution plan to a panel of industry experts. The panel then questions the teams.

Introduction to Project Control

Overview The ECITB course Project Control is a vitally important aspect of project management regardless of the size of the project. Success of any project, whether an offshore hook-up, chemical plant shut-down or modifications to a plant, is more likely if it is effectively planned and then controlled throughout its life-cycle. The topics learnt on this course will enhance the likelihood of successful completion. This four day course is delivered in classroom style using worked examples and case studies. It will give participants the skills and understanding to improve and develop their own project control performance.

DurationThe course is 4 days.

AttendeesThis introductory course is aimed primarily at those new to the project environment; they may have been working in another capacity within the organisation or be graduates taking their first steps into the Engineering Construction environment. In either case, prior knowledge is not assumed or required since the course will deal with the subject starting with the very basic; “Project Control - the definition”. The course is also deemed suitable for Engineers who carry out Project Controls functions such as Planning and Cost Control.

LocationsWe deliver the course in the following locations: Aberdeen, Falkirk, Middlesbrough, Manchester, Humberside, Birmingham, London, Southampton and Wales. This course can also be delivered in-house at any location in the UK or overseas if required.

FundingA grant towards the cost of this training may be available for ECITB registered companies.
