to enter the profession

Project: School trips to learn about oyster farming

Led by the shellfish farming committee

In partnership with:

▪ the Lycée de la Mer (“maritime high school”)

▪ the local careers office

In cooperation with the pesca-tourism

authority (in order to take pupils on board)

Project results

From 2012 to 2014

183 students from 13 different schools boarded

Total cost: €12 000

(50% EFF; 50% other public funds)

Conclusions

A real social inclusion operation, made possible through the EFF Axis 4

▪ Number of fishermen and oyster farmers has remained stable for several years now

▪ Approximately 10 young people per year starting careers in oyster farming, and the arrival of new fishing boats

Further actions: ▪ Conduct equivalent operations on fishing boats with fishmonger

students▪ Awareness-raising for the young on the fishing and oyster farming

sector (education kit, local oysters and fish to eat at school...)
