The purpose of the Public Information Centre (PIC) is to provide interested and/or potentially affected stakeholders with anopportunity to participate in the planning and decision-making process.

IntroductionPeel Region is planning to construct a 9.0 ML (2.38 MG) Elevated Water Storage Tank to provide therequired storage and service to the Community of Bolton.The purpose of the study is to identify the preferred location of the new elevated tank.The elevated tank will augment the distribution system, provide pressure equalization, fire and emergencystorage to meet the demands of the existing developments, as well as the approved and futuredevelopment, as outlined by the 2007 Peel Region Water and Wastewater Servicing Master Plan Update.A 600mm/400mm (24”/16”) diameter feedermain, approx. 5.0 Km in length, is also proposed to beconstructed from the proposed elevated tank at South Hill to North Hill; to strengthen the Bolton-Zone 6distribution system redundancy.Currently there is a single feed to the North Hill from the South Hill. This new feedermain will stabilizecurrent flows and pressures and provide added security of supply to the North Hill.This Study has been undertaken as a Schedule ‘C’ under the requirements of the Municipal Class EA.

TYPICAL PATTERN OF WATER DEMANDTYPICAL PATTERN OF WATER DEMAND

SIZING WATER SUPPLY FACILITIESTypical water consumption rates for residential and commercialproperties are multiplied by projected population and land useswithin the Pressure District to provide the necessary Averageand Peak demand figures used to design the variouscomponents of the system.Water Treatment Plants and Pumping Stations are typicallydesigned to meet the Maximum Day demand. Storage isrequired to meet the Peak Hour demands during the day andFire Flow requirements.

CURRENT & PROJECTED WATER DEMANDSThe figure below outlines the projected water demands andstaging of storage, based on the planned population andwater consumption rates. The current storage consist of a3.7 ML (1 MG) elevated tank. An additional 9.0 ML (2.38MG) storage is required to accommodate the approvedCommunity Plan growth.

Overall Evaluation Approach for Water Storage SiteFour (4) concept areas were evaluated within the study area for the water storagesiting:

Conceptual Area 1 – Inground Reservoir– Requires highest elevation– Generally located at Old Church Road– Significantly north of Bolton

Conceptual Area 2 – North Hill - Elevated Tank– Nearest area of low pressures– At northern limit of Bolton, but near residential– Good elevations for elevated tank

Conceptual Area 3 – Northwest Bolton - Elevated Tank– At northern limit of Bolton– Within agricultural lands– Good elevations for elevated tank

Conceptual Area 4 – Coleraine Drive - Elevated Tank– Aesthetically acceptable – near existing tank and within employment

area– Lower elevations for elevated tank– Constructing the tank in this area would allow the Region to comply

with the permitted uses and would shorten the distance of thefeedermain to the new elevated tank

To satisfy the North Hill demands and provide security of supply to the residents ofBolton, a proposed feedermain route would connect the South Hill and North Hill.An elevated tank at Coleraine Drive would allow for a smaller diameter feedermain.

Alternative Elevated Tank Sites

Three (3) Alternative site locations were identified forthe proposed 9.0 ML (2.38 MG) Elevated Tank.

The original elevated tank site identified in the 2007Peel Region Water and Wastewater Servicing MasterPlan Update was situated north of the study area; ithas been eliminated from consideration due toenvironmental constraints and higher costs.

Alternative Site No. 3 is the Preliminary Preferred Site,which is the northwest corner of the Hopewellproperty, as shown in the figure on right. This site wasselected based on the following:

– Approximately 3 acres flat area for tank site plus~2 acres for a permanent access road

– Close to existing infrastructure– Set back from Coleraine Drive to reduce visual

impact on existing residences– Minimum Environmental Impacts; 30 metre

setback from water feature.Property acquisition will be required for an accessroad and feedermains to the elevated tank site.

Orientation and the tank layout is conceptual only andis subject to change.
