Q House 2017 Page 1 Q House Short Breaks Service The aim is for Q House to be an extension of school, learning, developing, evolving and having fun in a homely environment; whilst having a short break from home. We will offer children and young people aged eight to eighteen new experiences to make a positive difference in their lives. They will be supported to achieve independence, learn life skills also have opportunities to make and build friendships on their terms, socialising with their peers or attending community activities and social events. Q House is a purpose built 4 bedroom short breaks – respite service within the school. It is situated on the first floor and has a multisensory activity suite within the immediate vicinity. Each room has an on-suite toilet and the shower room is state of the art and boasts two spacious showers. There is a main hub room which is multifunctional and very spacious with a kitchenette to prepare breakfast and snacks.

Q House Short Breaks Service

The aim is for Q House to be an extension of school, learning, developing,

evolving and having fun in a homely environment; whilst having a short

break from home.

We will offer children and young people aged eight to eighteen new

experiences to make a positive difference in their lives. They will be

supported to achieve independence, learn life skills also have opportunities

to make and build friendships on their terms, socialising with their peers or

attending community activities and social events.

Q House is a purpose built 4 bedroom short breaks – respite service within the

The main meals and lunches will be prepared by the schools award winning

chef and his team and served in the dining hall.

Each Child will have a holistic support plan which will be agreed with parents

and carers. It will include realistic and achievable target/s in order for children

and young people to acquire new skills and independence. Detailed risk

assessments will also be in place to ensure all children are safeguarded in all

aspects of their stay.

Children and young people will have access to a range of activities within the

school grounds and premises, also some community access. See below for the

range of activities that will be offered:

Outdoor activities in the playgrounds x 2, which has climbing frame,

swings, mini trampoline, grass area

Life skills sessions

So Safe sessions

Access to a mini bus for trips out

Support with homework

Additional activities such as yoga and music sessions via the schools specialist

teachers will also be on offer as and when required.

Q House Short Break Services on offer:

Overnight short breaks during term time which includes support to

attend school the next day via transport, if not attending Queensmill

School

Overnight short breaks during school holidays

Day Short Breaks during school holidays from 9 am to 3 pm if using the

overnight service. Q House will provide a packed lunch

10 am to 3 pm if using Day Short Breaks only – Parents / Carers to

provide packed lunch and drinks

After School Clubs from 3pm to 4.15 or 3 pm to 7 pm term time only

Limited spaces, priority will be given to pupils attending Queensmill

School

Saturday Club from 10 am to 3 pm

Preventative breaks to support children, young people and their family

Emergency and Crisis based short breaks, admissions via placing

authorities

Overnight short breaks will be offered to families and parents with a

child/children with a diagnosis of Autism, that have been assessed by their

child’s social worker or social care worker as needing a short break service.

Their designated placing authority will then fund the placement.

A family that requires a short break for their child and is not requesting this via

their designated placing authority; can make enquires for a placement direct to

the Q House Management team.

Day Short Breaks will be on offer to children who are currently funded by their

placing authority or receiving direct payments. Alternatively, parents who

would like their child or children to access this service on a private

arrangement, can make enquiries direct to the Q House management team.

Referrals will be considered in line with Q House Admissions Procedure.
