l. 0 INTRODUCTION

In compliance with NASA Contract NASA 9-5829 requirements, this document provides a Qualification Status List (QSL) for use as part of the ALSEP Flight 2A Acceptance Data Package.

Because of the similarity of this Array to previously qualified arrays, complete system qualification was not required. Those new components, which were identified at the FTRR/FACI for Subpack I on 27-28 October, 1970, as being qualified on a component qualification level are as follows:

(1) 90 channel multiplexer (2) BxA transmitter (3 \ RSST Timer

The FTRR/FACI held at Bendix on 16 December 1970 dictated that requalification rationale of the HFE SN 6 would be accomplished by successful completion of HFE SN 2 qualification on Array D subpack 2 qualification. The ALSEP Array D Subpackage 2 QAR Minutes, 9721-276, state that HFE is considered to have passed qualification testing.

Changes to Array A2 hardware previously qualified by the ALSEP Qual SA, SB, and SC Program are reviewed in Section 2. 0, and other comments concerning qualification by similarity are provided in Section 3. 0.

l. 1 HARDWARE LIST FOR FLIGHT 2A/ARRAY A-2

The following is a hardware list for the Flight 2A Array A-2 configuration that was reviewed at the FTRR as the basis for establishing the hardware qualified on an individual basis versus configuration items considered qualified by Qual SA, Qual SB, and/or Qual SC Programs.

1. 2 OUTSTANDING FAILURE ANALYSIS REPORTS

The below listed FRs against Flight ZA ALSEP configuration are being processed for Failure Analysis Reporting as of the date of Publication for this QSL. All previous failure analysis reports against ALSEP Qual SA, Qual SB, Qual C and Flight ZA ALSEP hardware have been closed by MSC review and approval actions.

1. FR-285, PSE Sensor S/N-3, Flight Spare

KSC DR #F-ASI-0007 reported PSE pressure below minimum value of 332 during periodic KSC pressure checks. A linear regression analysis established that the leak rate is within specification and that PSE S/N-3 was acceptable as a spare. An Interim FAR #285 was issued 11/25/70. The Interim FAR #285 recommended that the S/N-3 PSE Sensor continue to be used in support of integrated system on Arrays A2 and D as explained in Bendix Letter 70-970-3965. Following use of the sensor in support of AZ and D test programs, it will undergo modification to a later flight configuration. Follow-ing modification and test, a final FAR will be prepared.

2. FR-All, Command Receiver S/N-8, Flight AZ Spare

BxA DR #AB8040 reported 35 KC IF bandpass shift and abnormal S/N ratio during T/V test at BxA. BxA troubleshooting per DR #AB8040 determined that the anomaly was due to a clear oily film on the inside of the receiver cover. After removal of the grease and completion of functional tests at BxA, the receiver was considered flightworthy. An Interim FAR #A 11 was issued on 12/2/70. The re-acceptance test of the S/N 8 receiver was stopped after completion of the ambient baseline portion of the acceptance test due to other test priorities.

APPENDIX A

QSL SHEET COMPARISON CRlTEHIA

The qualification status defined in the Appendix B QSL Sheets {BxA format 970-12) is presented in a manner to compare ALSEP equipment specified environment or parametric requirements to the stress levels achieved during Qual SA or previous programs.

The qualification status has been established by the qualification testing accomplished at BxA and is reflected on the applicable QSL sheets by the listing of the appropriate test procedure, test reports and remarks relative to each test or to prior qualification tests.

Qualification testing of ALSEP for vibration shock, and acceleration was required at the system level only. That is, all equipments that comprise ALSEP were subjected to design limit levels for a stowed configuration, simulating the mounting of ALSEP into the LM compartment. The qualification vibration levels are depicted in Figures 1 through 5. These levels are in accordance with those specified by NASA Letter TD3/ L023/ 68/B- 26 (JAC ).

The qualification testing of Qual SA required testing to qualify the Array SA sunshield and astronaut switches. For the induced environments test, a Subpackage #1 was employed with mass simulators used for the previously qualified experiments"

The qualification levels for the Trans1nitter, RSST and Multiplexer at the component levels are as indicated on each applicable item QSL sheet in Appendix B.

The SP#2 and HFE requalification was accomplished per BxA TM-598, Rev. Band the TP 1 s listed in Figure I, in Section 3. 0. The qualification vibration levels for Array D SP#Z are the same as the above Figures for Qual SA with the following exception. Figure 6 shows the Earth Launch Boost Vibration I_,cvcl for the X Axis perforrned to Qualify SP/!2, Array D.
