HIT THE BULL’S EYE“ALL ABOUT CAMPUS
RECRUITMENT”
Campus Recruitment Drive meansthe colleges invite the IT or Non-ITcompanies to visit their colleges forthe purposes of recruitment. Theemployer company would visitcolleges to select the potentialemployees. Each one of thesecompanies would have its ownselection criteria like the studentsshould have continuously 65% andabove and they should have excellentcommunication skills (both oral andwritten) etc. They will conduct first, written tests, then, group discussionsand finally the one to one interviews. This is the process of recruitment.
A typical Campus Drive comprises of4 stages. Each stage is equallyimportant and is as following:
1) Pre-Placement Talk2) Written Test3) Group Discussion4) Personal Interview
Let us discuss all the stages in detail. The Pre-placement Talk is theforemost stage which is conducted bythe HR Team of the visiting company.HR talks about the company, thecompany policies, Company’s visionand mission, company’s majorprojects, products and working areas, size of the company in terms ofemployee strength & locations, workprofile, terms and conditions forrecruitment, benefits both in termsof financial and non-financial growththat the company is going to offer toits employees. This round gives adetailed description on everythingrelated to the company and the jobprofile. It helps candidates to take awell-informed decision on whetherthe company meets the career goalsor not and moreover the job role
which is offered by the company issuitable or not. The main purpose is toaccomplish the goal of “BEST FIT”. Apiece of advice is to clarify all thedoubts during this session beforeproceeding with the rest of theselection rounds. All the candidatesmust visit the company’s websitebefore appearing so as to ensure thatthey have enough information aboutthe company in prior. This also helpsto ensure that when HR personals askquestions during the Pre-Placementround, candidates are not blank andanswers are available. HR personalsnormally tend to ask questions aboutthe company during this round to findout how many candidates are actuallyand genuinely interested in making acareer in the company. And thecandidates who can reply back to thequestions are obvious to get an extraedge during the entire selectionprocedure.
The second stage is of Written Test. Itcan be sub-divided in to two or three. One is Aptitude Test. Most of thecompanies prefer to take Aptitudetest so as to check the mental ability& the logical reasoning ability of thecandidate. This is to judge how quickthe person will respond to a problemand how well he/she will solve theproblem. Word of caution: time isnever sufficient to solve all thequestions and on top of that negativemarking can drastically effect yourperformance. Key to success isPractice, Practice and Practice.
An optional second written test canbe Psychometric test. Psychometrictesting refers to the process ofmeasuring a candidate's relevantstrengths and weaknesses. This formof measurement is primarilyemployed to assess employmentsuitability, including company-candidate fit. The aim ofpsychometric tests is to gain anaccurate bearing of the candidate'scognitive abilities and
personality/behavioral style.Cognitive abilities (i.e. numericalreasoning and spatial reasoning etc.)are important characteristics to thesuccessful application of skills inmany occupations. Psychometrictesting can provide key insights into acandidate’s ability to communicate, make decisions and calculate causeand effect in certain occupationalscenarios.
An optional third round can be ofTechnical Written Test. Beforeappearing in the technical writtentest, it is must to revisit all the basicsubjects you have studied during thefirst/second/third year of academics. Most of the questions asked are veryfundamental and will check yourunderstanding of the basic conceptsin a particular subject. Clearing thisstage is no rocket science if you areattentive enough in the class andsincere about your studies.
Third stage is of Group Discussion.Group Discussion stage is to check alot of parameters like communicationskills, leadership skills, interpersonalskills, ability to work in team andmany more. This round is most of thetimes conducted when the candidatecount is too high. In the last issue, wecovered in detail the tips on how tocrack Group Discussion.
Fourth and the last stage is ofPersonal Interview (PI). PersonalInterview can be again in two roundsi.e. HR Interview and TechnicalInterview. A good resume is a key tosuccess in this round. Many questionsare based on your resume and a lot oftechnical questions can be from thepast work experience or from theproject work which you haveundertaken during the course of yourstudies. In Issue-1 we have alreadydiscussed all the important questionsthat can be asked during PI. It’salways good to prepare well, beconfident and perform your best.

Rakesh Vasani
B. E. – I. C.
Selected inReliance Industries
My name is Rakesh Vasani. I am fromKutch. I completed my graduationdegree from this reputed and wellknown institute - Atmiya Institute ofTechnology and Science, withdistinction. I extend my heartfeltgratitude to the AITS for inspirationsthroughout my academic days. Thesefour years at AITS has helped me toget a job in Reliance Industries.
I was always fascinated towardsMaths and Physics, so after passing12th with good percentage, I decidedto get into engineering where I couldexpand my knowledge and skills, butI had no idea what kind of career Imight have. After having someconsultations and inquiries I finallygot admission to one of the elite andrecognized institute inInstrumentation and Controlengineering. This institution is notjust a place where you will get acareer oriented education but I havefelt homely too. An institution can'tbe good by only its infrastructure, butalso needs proper management thatgives it the right direction, guidanceand skilled teaching staff, which areat AITS. The best thing about theinstitute is the faculty that is highlyexperienced and qualified. AITS havesupported me in every step I havetaken. I believe this institute hasgiven me new possibilities as a resultof which I am able to exploit mypotential to the fullest. I am reallygracious that I had been in an
institution which has given me theatmosphere and scope to excel intechnical skills, leadership, professional and personal growth aswell as other life skills.
My consistent effort and continuoussupport of our professors enforcedme to get better grade throughoutthese four years of college and I amglad that I am able to make myinstitution feel proud. AITS made mydreams come true by getting me jobinto my dream company relianceindustries. I am thankful to all friendsand faculty members for being a partof my life and make collage lifeunforgettable. With the blessing ofparents and god I am able to achievethis success. I will not forget thiscollege till my last breath.
MurtazaAmravativala
MCA
Selected in TCS“Opportunities don’t
happen. You create them”. Forsucceeding in your career, you needto give chance to yourself. For givingchance to yourself, you need to workhard. This is the simplest of theformula that worked for me.
The first taste of programming I hadwas in 9th standard. Right from thatpoint of time I decided I wanted to goin computer field. So with that inmind I took up programming subjectseven in my 12th standard and went onto do BCA from Virani ScienceCollege.
BCA was like a wonderland for mewhere I found endless opportunities. The college had rich resources thatoffered me a perfect platform tonourish my knowledge. With all thesethings happening I nevercompromised with my academicresults. Anyhow I managed to score
first class marks. I believe academicresults may not show your truepotential but they are required as a“gate pass” in many areas of yourcareers. I appeal to the readers tokeep scoring well if not better or best.
After BCA I took up MCA and againthe most important was the platformthat I got. I took admission in AtmiyaInstitute which holds excellentresources for enthusiasts. With thegood academic results overall I had achance to appear in TCS interviewprocess. I took this as a life timeopportunity and gave my best effort.
TCS has the first filtering round ofaptitude. I knew I was average onthat. So I started working on myaptitude right from beginning of mysemester. Also one thing that canhelp a lot in TCS aptitude is to referrecent TCS aptitudes that it mighthave conducted across the country. Many of my aptitude questions werefrom recent TCS aptitudes.
For the second round of Technicaland HR I would just like to tell 4words, “BE WHAT YOU ARE”. Don’tshow them how good you can be.Don’t bluff. Don’t exaggerateyourself. Before you go into interviewhave some innovative idea in yourmind. If the interviewer asks you sucha question you can reply them. I hadcome across same situation andluckily I had an idea of myself ready.
I believe there is always a scope ofimprovement. There can be alwayssomething better than the current. Iwould like to tell all my friends it’s notonly about big companies and highpackages. If you get selected for anMNC you are good but if you are notselected than there is even a biggeropportunity waiting to get created byyou. Always try to createopportunity. Don’t wait for things tohappen, go out and make themhappen. Cheers. Good luck.

Foram Kalyani
B. E. C.E.
Selected inNexum
My name is Foram Kiritbhai Kalyani.I recently completed my B.E inComputer Engineering. I got selectedwith 2.40 LPA in company namedNEXUM Software PVT. LTD., aLondon Based Company, located inAhmedabad. It feels great when youget selected among students fromnumber of colleges and universities.Having an offer letter during ourstudies can be considered as one ofthe best moment one could have inlife.
It takes lots of hard work and properunderstanding of your academicsubjects. If you have passion to besuccessful in your field, you don’tneed to have good personality – yousimply need to be confident in yourabilities and you should be willing tolearn new things. It is not as easy as itlooks but it is not so tough also if onehave a strong determination andskills.
To be selected in a company, oneshould start working on theircommunication skills as it isconsidered as most important andthe companies expect this first fromthe employees. You should have clearidea about your work and task to beperformed in an organization. Youshould visit various websites relatedto your work as they keep youupgraded.
In interview, answer straight to thequestions and don’t get confusedwhile answering. If you don’t knowthe answer simply say ‘NO’ to theinterviewer rather than giving fakeanswers as it creates bad impressionon the interviewer. Try to practicewith your friends to overcome you
nervousness as I did before myinterview day, it does help a lot.
Our college provides all the updatesand instructions about the company.Faculties help a lot to students whoare going for the interview byproviding guidelines to crackinterview. It is important to think ofthe difficulty level and challenges youwill face, but if you have strongdetermination than nobody can stopyou to put them down.
I am very thankful to Training andPlacement Cell of Atmiya Institute ofTechnology and Science forproviding a gateway to my dreamjob.

But this was not an easy task. It reallytakes a lot of hard work anddetermination to get selected in anycompany. A good preparation is verynecessary. Don’t worry, I know thesewords sound so frightening butbelieve me, if you want you can andit’s not that tough. Our college doesprovide many instructions as well asfacilities like seminars, T&P cellactivities and regular reminders ofwhat you need to do for preparation.Go on with that, keep on followinginstructions and it will not be difficultfor you to get your desired job. There are lots andlots of other opportunity in IT field .Ifyou are good and communicationand management you can got tovarious post like software consultant,BDE, Project Coordinator, etc.Networking is also a very wide fieldthere is a good opportunity to get jobat home location as every industriesdo have IT department where ITengineers do work as a post of EDPand EDP analyst and with a goodpackages. Various database relatedjob are in demand like Data scientist,Data Mining, MIS, etc.
Don’t worry if you are not good atdeveloping (yes you are Lucky), thereare lots of other IT jobs.Do have somespecialization and fluent at somefield this will help you cracking theinterview as they will go deep in whatyou already know. Atmiya Institutesdo provide various seminars andworkshops, I too attended the samethe certification played a veryeffective part on selection. Thiscertificates helped me differentiatingmyself from other opponents at theinterview. Getting selected was notan easy task, there were almost 5round for selection and then afterlong period of selection processfinally got a call from Maahi that I wasselected.
I am thankful to Atmiya Institute andespecially our faculties, they workedso hard for us to get selected.

CAMPFIREMOTIVATIONAL STORY
“A Pound of Butter”
There was a farmer who sold a poundof butter to the baker. One day thebaker decided to weigh the butter tosee if he was getting a pound and hefound that he was not. This angeredhim and he took the farmer to court. The judge asked the farmer if he wasusing any measure. The farmerreplied, amour Honor, I am primitive.I don't have a proper measure, but Ido have a scale." The judge asked,"Then how do you weigh the butter?"The farmer replied "Your Honor, longbefore the baker started buyingbutter from me, I have been buying apound loaf of bread from him. Everyday when the baker brings the bread,I put it on the scale and give him thesame weight in butter. If anyone is tobe blamed, it is the baker."
What is the moral of the story? Weget back in life what we give toothers. Whenever you take an action, ask yourself this question: Am I givingfair value for the wages or money Ihope to make? Honesty anddishonesty become a habit. Somepeople practice dishonesty and canlie with a straight face. Others lie somuch that they don't even know whatthe truth is anymore. But who arethey deceiving? Themselves
.
“BANK ACCOUNT”Imagine there is a bank, whichcredits your account each morningwith Rs 86,400, carries over nobalance from day to day, allows youto keep no cash balance, and everyevening cancels whatever part ofthe amount you had failed to useduring the day. What would you do?Draw out every pence, of course!Well, everyone has such a bank. Itsname is Time.Every morning, it credits you with86,400 seconds. Every night itwrites off, as lost, whatever of thisyou have failed to invest to goodpurpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no overdraft. Each day itopens a new account for you. Eachnight it burns the records of the day.If you fail to use the day's deposits, the loss is yours. There is no going back. There is nodrawing against the "tomorrow."
Therefore, there is never notenough time or too much time.Time management is decided by usalone and nobody else. It is neverthe case of us not having enoughtime to do things, but the case ofwhether we want to do it.
“A good character is the besttombstone. Those who loved you andwere helped by you will rememberyou when forget-me-nots havewithered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble.”

How to Stay Safeover the Internet?
Last time when I went to myhometown, my cousin asked thisquestion. He completed hisengineering and now about to joinone of the leading companies in India.I will share the tips I had given to youall. Most of you may be knowingmore about this, but I am reiteratingall those safety tips again.
1. Let us start with our operatingsystem. Most of us have personalcomputers, right. Whenever, ourcomputer ask for some operating
system updates, do not postpone it,allow him to freely go to his homeand get the updates. This will makehim more happy and secure.
2. Always don’t click on anyadvertisement links unless you arevery familiar with the product orcompany.
3. Try to avoid giving your personalinformation unless, you are sure thevendor is legitimate. It may soundlike a potential job opportunity, buton the other side, your identity maybe exposed. A hacker can easily getyour personal details like Date ofBirth, Age, Address, Phone number.Identity theft is something that ismost common but can cause seriousdamages.
4. Do not open email attachments. You may get emails mentioning "Youwon a lottery". Open this attachmentfor more details. This is somethingcalled a phishing attack, which I willexplain later in a different blog post.
5. Always purchase Antivirus. It won’tcost you much. Updated Antivirussoftware can help you very much indealing with virus, malwares orspywares.
6. Do not install unauthorizedsoftware’s. This may help a hacker tocreate a backdoor to reach yourmachine and exploit.
7. Do not share your passwords withanybody. Never use the same mainemail password in multiple websites.Always create different passwordsfor different websites. Always choosestrong passwords that are not easy toguess. Do not use dictionary words. My recommendation should be acombination of a) at least 8characters long b) English uppercase
characters (A-Z) c)English lowercasecharacters (a-z) and Non-alphanumeric (!@#$)
8. When you are out from home, always disable your Wi-Fi option inyour mobile phone. When you areconnected from home, always checkwhether you are connected to thelegitimate wireless access point.
9. Shop only from secure websites.Do not enter your credit/debit carddetails in any websites that are notfamiliar to you.
10. Educate yourself about the latestsecurity news and promote securityawareness around your family, friends.
Hope these tips would be helpful toyou.
