Thanks to one and all for your support and participation in this year’s Martyrsfest. I am grateful for the parishioners’ part of praying for good weather on the weekend. I could have not asked for a better weekend that the one given to us last week. God truly heard and answered our prayers. My appreciation goes out to our chairpersons and committee

heads who helped to make this fest a success, especially to Bob Pellegrini and Cindy Durkin, our co-chairs, to Tim and Kathleen Davies and to Mrs. Kettering and the faculty and staff for helping to manage and run the bar tent, to Margaret McShane, for getting the entertainment, to Linda McCann and Julie Szczesniak for getting the sponsorship for the fest, to Stephanie Osborne and Gina Gutrich for working the wrist bands for the Carnival, to Tina O’Shea and the Youth Ministers for helping with the kids games, to Kevin Allen and the Holy Name Society for helping with security, to Karen Manning for the Mega Passes, to Linda Lacey for managing the money counters, for Jim and Ann Quattrocki for running the raffle booth, to Ginger Bouchard and her committee for helping with Pull Tabs, to Liz Hogan and the Altar & Rosary for supplying the coffee and rolls after the 11:30AM Mass on Sunday, to Agnes O’Shea for running Bingo, to our electricians Kevin Smith, Jim Barcelona, Marty McDough, Craig Jacobus and Kevin Knightly, to Carole Prendergast and the choir for singing, to our high school teens and John Schmitt for helping with clean-up, to our sponsors for providing us with food and drink, and most especially to our parishioners and friends who supported and attended the fest. It was a wonderful weekend.

Congratulations to our raffle winners, to the five families who live on 102nd and Trumbull for winning the $10,000, to John Cronin and the three families for winning $2,500, to Pat Ashe, the Houlihan family, Margaret Crofton and Mary Kelly for winning $1,000, and to Sue Ryan and Dick Lombard for winning $500.

This weekend, we have a deacon representative from Food for the Poor to speak to us about the ministry they do to assist people who are struggling and in need.

Have a good week.

God Bless,

The Circle of Life encourages women to connect their experiences of the evolving seasons with inner spiritual growth. Each season is a stepping stone in a great circle of life. No season is ever exactly the same as the year before. Each season teaches us something more about who we are and about how life is to be lived. All

women are welcome to come to any or all sessions to discover the link of the seasons to our lives.

Mission Trip 2014 Making Others Very Important Every Summer

Martyrs Youth Ministry

QMYM

“On the Mission Trip I have done so many things that I haven’t ever done in my life, such as killing bugs with my bare hands. These people that went on the Mission Trip with me are the nicest people I have ever met. I don’t think I have

laughed and smiled so much in my life. I am so excited to come back next year.”-Ka e

“Each year I come here I feel more and more blessed in my life. My first year I really dreaded coming and the only reason I did end up here was because my mom found the sign-up sheet in my drawer. Thinking back now, I can’t imagine my life if she hadn’t found that sheet. I remember the day before my first week here; I woke up and thought of every reason I shouldn’t go. I’m so glad I did. I have gone from only knowing one kid’s name in Harlan with me to calling QMYM my second family and sharing this experience with the li le girl, my baby cousin, and that Liam kid. I thank God for Harlan, Kentucky and the people of QMYM because those things have made me who I am today. Thanks guys.”-Sebok

We will meet in the usher’s room of our Church for about 30-45 minutes to discern how these teachings of Jesus affect our every day life, and to prepare for the following Sunday’s Word. Scripture passages for October 12th: First Reading: Isaiah 25:6-10A What sacred about lunch today? Who shares your meals with you? Second Reading: Philippians 4:12-14, 19-20 Do you have “food rules” that you live by? Under what circumstances do you bend them? Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14 Why does Church have to involve other people? Are there people with whom you might refuse to eat? Please join us for the new adventure in learning so that we might “Teach Christ” with Scripture. Coffee and donuts will be available. Queen of Martyrs Students Utilize iPad Lab to Enhance Lessons

Mrs. Felmon’s 6th Grade Social Studies Class explored Greek Mythology to develop ideas for writing their own myths. The students used the new iPad Lab purchased through the generosity Of Queen of Martyrs Parishioners and Alumni donations. The students explored Greek myths online and used different Apps to gain background

information to help in the formation of creative myths for this Social Studies Unit. The iPad Lab offers cutting edge technology that enables Queen of Martyrs students from Pre-Kindergarten through Eighth Grade the opportunity to utilize the latest tools and Apps that the iPad of-fers. Use of this advanced technology allows for students to contin-ue to excel in the classroom. Thank you to all that helped to make the Queen of Martyrs iPad lab a success. Your donation has truly made a difference!

PLAYGROUND DONATIONS

We are looking for gently used playground equipment for our outside play area Queen of Martyrs School. Items such as Step 2 or Little Tikes clubhouses or any play equipment (no slides) made of PVC materials, would be greatly appreciated. We will pick up donations. Please contact Janine Missey at the parish rectory—708-423-8110.

With your help, we can create a fun and safe play area for the children of Queen of Martyrs to enjoy!

Thank you!

CLOTHING DRIVE

St. Vincent DePaul at Queen of Martyrs is sponsoring their annual clothing drive on the weekend of October 25 & 26. We especially welcome cold weather needs – coats, jackets, sweats, hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, boots, socks – but also need daily wear, too – jeans, slacks, shirts, sweaters. Sleeping bags, blankets, quilts, throws, and afghans are also welcome for those who are homeless and may be living in cars, tents, or sheds and garages – which, unfortunately, is a growing number. Your donations will be greatly appreciated by those who are less fortunate than you.
