The purpose of the event, featuring movement and music workshops, discussions and public performances, is to deepen and enrich understandings of Capoeira as a powerful and healing Afro-Brazilian artistic and cultural expression. Promoted extensively in the broader community through social media and promotional materials, and attended by over 350 people, the event will provide many valuable exposure possibilities for your business. At our last event, participants patronized businesses on Broadway, Piedmont and Telegraph Avenues, around Lake Merritt and elsewhere within the city of Oakland throughout the week. Your sponsorship will also help to sustain a fantastic non-profit that serves to enrich our local community! Born in the slave quarters of Brazilian sugar plantations, Capoeira is a dance, a fight, a game— a testament to the resilience of the human spirit. Capoeira Mandinga works to create strong roots in our community and enrich the lives of people of all ages and backgrounds through this incredible art form. With schools across the Bay Area, the U.S., and beyond, we bring the powerful and expressive movement, musical rhythms, and joyous energy of the Brazilian culture to thousands of people throughout the world. About the 2017 Capoeira Mandinga Batizado The 2017 Capoeira Mandinga Batizado is a week-long event that will dive deep into the culture and spirit that has shaped Capoeira. The week will begin with a series of intensive workshops led by world-class mestres, or Masters of the art, from schools across the Bay Area, the U.S. and Brazil. On the final day of the event, Capoeira Mandinga will hold a special graduation ceremony, called the Batizado e Troca de Cordões. The Batizado e Troca de Cordões will include high-energy performances of Capoeira and related folkloric dances to live music, as well as a belt-changing ceremony for students progressing to the next level in Capoeira. This event is our organization’s most important of the year because along with the opportunity to publicly share our art with the community, it celebrates the hard work of our students throughout the year.
