In geography, we have two ways to describe LOCATION.

1. Relative Location.We can always describe what is nearby.

How could you give the RELATIVE LOCATION of Stockton?

2. Absolute Location.This is done with a pair of coordinates.

For example, Stockton is located at 38° N, 121° W

These two coordinates enable us to pinpoint Stockton on a map.

The first coordinate, 38° N, is the LATITUDE of Stockton.

The second coordinate, 121° W, is its LONGITUDE.
