Activation Instructor will present a book talk about the YA novel 8th grade Bites, the first book in Heather Brewer’s series The Chronicles of Vladimir Tod.

Instruction 1. After listening to the book talk, learners will access an online survey (using a QR code printed on handout) and answer questions about vampire and surviving high school.

2. Learners will discuss survey results and apply their answers to a discussion about vampire literature and their feelings about going to high school next year.3. Learners will read a story from Chicken Soup for the Teenage Soul about Charles Shultz and overcoming mediocrity.

Assessment Learners will write a letter to rising 8th graders giving them advice about being the leaders at the school next year and how to prepare for high school.

Closing Learners will receive a handout with QR codes to use to access an online resource list to use over the summer and next year in high school.
