Comprehensive solution ■ For the purposes of non-structural repair, finishing

and elimination of minor defects, shrinkage-compensating quick-setting thixotropic mixes are applied, containing polymeric fibre: MasterEmaco® N 5100 (application thickness: 0.5 to 7 mm) and MasterEmaco® N 900 (application thickness: 3 to 20 mm).

■ For the purposes of reinforcing steel protection against corrosion, MasterEmaco® P 5000 AP material is applied. This mortar should be applied to the reinforcing steel surface prior to structural repair works. The mortar has a double effect: on the one side, it restores high alkalinity of the environment, and thus, passivates the reinforcing steel; on the other side, active inhibitors ensure long-term reinforcing steel protection. In addition, the material can be used as a universal adhesive mortar for MasterEmaco® series repair materials (except for the MasterEmaco® T series). Furthermore, for the purposes of protection of different reinforced concrete types, such as: in-situ, precast, with pre-stressed and pre-tensioned reinforcing steel, MasterProtect® 8000 CI material is applied to the structure concrete surface.

■ Structural repair requires the use of repair mortars that exclude shrinkage and characterized by good adhesion to the restorable surface (at least 2 MPa), as well as high physical and mechanical properties. It is necessary for full-scale involvement of the restored structure in the working process, as well as obtaining good stability under dynamic loads. Thixotropic material properties allow work performance without using mold. These are such materials as shrinkage-compensating thixotropic mixes containing polymeric fibre: Master-Emaco® S 5400 (application thickness: 5 to 50 mm), MasterEmaco® S 488 (application thickness: 20 to 40 mm), and MasterEmaco® T 1100 TIX (application thickness: 10 to 100 mm), intended for repair at sub-zero temperatures.

Comprehensive solution ■ For the purposes of protective layer restoration and

structural repair with the use of mold, high-strength shrinkage-compensating poured mixes are applied. MasterEmaco® S 550 FR mortar contains polymeric and flexible metallic nickel chromium fibre (application thickness: 20 to 60 mm). MasterEmaco® S 540 FR contains polymeric and rigid brass plated steel fibre (application thickness: 20 to 60 mm). Moreover, MasterEmaco® S 488 PG poured mortar can also be used for the purposes of repair; it contains polymeric fibre and is intended for concrete and reinforced concrete structural repair (application thickness: 20 to 40 mm).

■ MasterEmaco® S 550 FR is applied without additional reinforcement in case of reinforcing steel corrosion up to 15%, ensuring long-term and reliable repair of all reinforced concrete elements of different geometric shape.

■ MasterEmaco® S 550 FR is applied without additional reinforcement. The distinctive feature of this mix is the presence of brass plated steel fibre restraining the propagation of cracks. Due to this feature, the material has high flexing strength, good resistance to dynamic impact and outstanding resistance to fatigue. MasterEmaco® S 550 FR mortar is used for repair of elements that require multidirectional reinforcement in any structures exposed to shock and dynamic loads, since it ensures the structure load-bearing capacity even after cracking.

■ MasterEmaco® S 488 PG is used for repair of reinforced concrete structural elements under static and dynamic loads, repair of mechanical shops (particularly in an environment containing mineral oils), greasing, and joint grouting of precast concrete structures.

■ For the purpose of concrete surface protection, depending on the type and degree of aggressive action, MasterSeal® series coatings of hydrophobic bonding agents should be used.

Comprehensive solution ■ For the purpose of protective layer and structure

geometry restoration without mold, high-strength shrinkage-compensating thixotropic mixes containing polymeric fibre are used: MasterEmaco® S 5400, application thickness: 5 to 50 mm. MasterEmaco® S 488, application thickness: 20 to 40 mm, as well as MasterEmaco® S 560 FR mortar, containing polymeric and flexible metallic nickel chromium fibre (application thickness: 20 to 60 mm), applied in case of reinforcing steel corrosion up to 15%.

In addition, the material can be used as a universal adhesive mortar for MasterEmaco® series repair materials.

■ For the purposes of load-bearing capacity restoration and strengthening without additional reinforcement, proper weight and load on adjacent structures, MasterBrace® system materials are used.

The system is a complex consisting of the following: - MasterBrace® P 3500 is a primer intended for

creation of firm adhesion to the substrate; - MasterBrace® 1406 is a thixotropic filling based

on two-component epoxy resin, intended for surface levelling;

- MasterBrace 4500/ADH 4000 is a high-strength adhesive for burlaps/lamellae;

- MasterBrace® Fib/Lam is burlaps/lamellae intended for structure load-bearing capacity restoration and/or strengthening;

- MasterProtect® is protective coatings. ■ Composite materials are produced in the form of

burlaps and rods, represented by unidirectional fibres embedded into the polymer matrix. Burlap materials can be used for strengthening engineering structures of any shape and is capable of following that shape due to its own flexibility; small thickness allows their installation in two mutually perpendicular directions, thus increasing the load-bearing capability.

Comprehensive solution ■ For the purpose of foundation repair, it is

recommended to use MasterEmaco® series mortars. ■ During equipment and metallic structural elements

installation, poured materials are used, which are characterized by shrink resistance, high flowability, quick strength development and resistance to mineral oils: MasterFlow® 928 with maximum aggregate size of 2.5 mm and application thickness of 20 to 200 mm; MasterFlow® 4800 with metallic aggregate and application thickness of 25 to 60 mm.

■ MasterFlow® 648 is a high-strength three-component epoxy-based mortar intended for high-precision equipment installation (application thickness: 12 to 150 mm).

■ In case of additional grouting, it is not allowed to leave cavities or gaps; as a result, the load, both static and dynamic, is transferred to the substrate homogeneously.

■ For the works to be adequately performed, the mortars should ensure the following: - high workability allowing quick filling of the gap

under the supporting plate; - high strength and resistance to mechanical

impact, good adhesion to steel and concrete; - absence of shrinkage in the process of

consolidation; - structure pre-stressing by virtue of grouting

material expansion; - reduced entrained air content; - resistance to dynamic and shock impact.

■ Watering of exposed parts of applied material should be performed with the aid of mortars intended for protecting freshly laid concrete against excessively quick water evaporation.

■ Hydrophobizer advantages: - reduction of capillary water absorption; - increase in resistance to chloride ions and CO2

penetration; - resistance to atmospheric precipitation and

ultraviolet rays; - improved aesthetics of the surface; - no influence on water vapor permeability; - application in one layer, low consumption; - ease of use; - water-based and environmentally safe materials.

■ For the purpose of protection against weather impact and decoration of brick and concrete surface, elastic protective and decorative acrylic-based MasterSeal® 330 EI coating should be used. MasterSeal® 330 EI material is intended for protection of concrete, masonry and cement plaster. The coating is capable of bridging cracks up to 0.5 mm in width.

■ Protective coating advantages: - smooth decorative coating; - low CO2 permeability, resistance to negative

temperatures, de-icing salts and ultraviolet radiation;

- the coating preserves concrete water vapor permeability;

- good protective properties; - crack bridging; - the material is water-based and solvent-free.

■ Any RAL colour.

Comprehensive solution ■ Prior to the installation of reinforced concrete rings

and bottoms, in order to protect the structure against saturation with telluric moisture and temperature impact, it is necessary to waterproof the outer surface, contacting with soil, by means of MasterSeal® 531 material applied in two layers. This is a rigid single-component cement-based waterproof coating for internal and external operations, preventing subsoil waters from penetration.

■ For the purpose of active leak interruption and joint sealing between structural elements, MasterSeal® 590 is used – a quick-setting cement-based mortar with 1–2 min initial setting time.

■ MasterSeal® 590 mortar: - does not contain chlorides, or cause corrosion of

steel; - identical to concrete in terms of mechanical

properties; - extra-rapid hardening allows quick and easy

sealing of cracks and holes; - does not require any injection equipment; - cement-based material, does not contain toxic

elements. ■ For sealing joints between structural elements, it is

also possible to use shrinkage-compensating thixotropic MasterEmaco® S 5400 mix that contains polymeric fibre and has W16 waterproofness grade.

Industrial flooring

For repairing already existing industrial floors and new flooring, BASF recommends the use of multiple types of coating depending on the operation and production conditions:

MasterTop® series dry strengthening mixes During the arrangement of a new concrete slab, the dry strengthening mix (MasterTop® 100, MasterTop® 200, and MasterTop® 450) should be rubbed in the upper concrete layer; as a result, additional consolidation and maximum pore collapse on the floor surface are obtained. This leads to effective increase in surface strength, concrete floor resistance to abrasion and shock, as well as reduction of dust formation and water permeability. For floors with different impact intensity, dry strengthening mixes with different wear-resistance properties are applied.

For strengthening already existing concrete floors, it is recommended to use MasterTop® PG series hardeners – MasterTop® 135 PG and MasterTop® 450 PG. Coatings are applied in a 7–15 mm thick layer over a special adhesive mortar.

Primary field of application: ■ Production sites, assembly plants. ■ Logistics centres and warehouses. ■ Parking lots.

Key advantages of using MasterTop hardeners: ■ Durability, wear- and shock-resistance of the finished

coating. ■ Homogeneity of the coating and substrate contents. ■ Possibility to use the coating in case of temperature

drops. ■ Possibility to use the coating both inside and outside

the buildings. ■ Coating nonflammability (KM0 class, equivalent to

HMIS flammability rating 0).

Limitations: ■ Areas with chemically aggressive reagents

action (strong acids and alkalis, organic compounds, solvents, etc.).

■ High hygienic requirements of the location.

MasterTop® polymer coatings Polymeric compositions (epoxy- and polyurethane-based) are applied to the existing concrete substrate. Usually, their thickness is 0.5 to 4 mm. Polymer floors are wear-resistant and hygienic coatings.

Certain types of polymer coatings are elastic enough and capable of bridging cracks on concrete surface, thus ensuring coating reliability for wet process areas. Furthermore, BASF polymer coatings have been successfully tested against the most demanding environmental standards, and this is confirmed with a number of certificates, including LEED and AgBB.

Primary field of application: ■ Production facilities and utility services areas. ■ Engineering and technical centres. ■ Flammable liquids and chemical reagents storage

areas. ■ Explosion-hazardous premises. ■ Electronics assembly shops. ■ Warehouses and terminals. ■ Administration building.

Key advantages of MasterTop polymer coatings: ■ High wear-resistance and durability (dust-free

coatings). ■ Hygienic nature and ease of clean-up. ■ Chemical resistance to a wide range of chemical

reagents. ■ Attractive appearance, wide range of colours

according to RAL scale. ■ Different coating textures: smooth and anti-slip. ■ Possibility of electrically conductive coating design

with further use in explosion-hazardous premises. ■ Compliance with the highest ecology standards.

Limitations: ■ Use in areas with rapid temperature changes. ■ Use in areas exposed to the action of concentrated

chemical reagents at high temperatures.

Polyurethane-cement Ucrete® coatings Recommended for use to protect floors and basements against the action of aggressive chemical reagents (including concentrated ones) in the areas of temperature drops and intensive mechanical loads. Detailed information is available in the Ucrete® brochure.
