Client: Recycled Energy Development Locaon: Rochester, NY Compleon Date: March 2018 Project Summary: ESI was selected by Recycled Energy Development to be the EPC Contractor for design/build services for both the modification and replacement of their coal fired CHP facility in Rochester, NY. The project consisted of building a new steam generation facility capable of 765,000 lb/hr of steam generation at 1,430 psig and 900 °F conditions within the parking lot adjacent to their existing powerhouse. All waterside and auxiliary utility systems, including existing steam turbine generators in the existing powerhouse were reutilized. The project also consisted of converting an existing 550,000 lb/hr CE PC fired boiler to natural gas firing, the addition of a 200,000 lb/hr auxiliary backup package boiler, new electrical systems and controls for the new equipment, and the upgrade of existing controls for the natural gas converted power boiler and existing balance of plant equipment. There were over forty one utility and process tie-ins that had to be made, carefully planned and executed so as not to interrupt the ongoing operations. There were five existing boiler outages taken during construction to refurbish existing boiler feedwater pumps, and tie utility infrastructure piping together and connect to the new facility. Over 22,000 linear feet and 5,673 pipe welds were made to connect all of the existing utility piping with the new steam plant systems. The new high pressure steam generation assets consisted of three (3) 255,000 lb/hr 1450psig 900F elevated drum modular package boilers.
