GUIDELINES FOR FAMILIES
Principles for Developing Families of Courses
When leveling courses, Roman Numerals (I, II, III) are best for articulation.
All courses do not have to be in families.
Be cautious of creating families which are too broad.
Ensure there are programmatic justifications for leveling courses.
Do not proliferate families unnecessarily.
GRADING ON ATTENDANCE
Title 5 § 55002(a)(2)(A) – “Grades are intended to reflect the student’s performance in terms of course objectives and the students subject matter proficiency as opposed to a disciplinary option.”
Title 5 §58004 – “The failure to attend described in section 58004 (no shows or excessive unexcused absences) MUST be addressed by dropping the student from the class; a district cannot continue the student in the class and lower the grade for nonattendance.”
